PS4 Pro thoughts

Personally I was disappointed. I was expecting a true upgrade like from the Xbox one to project Scorpio. Project Scorpio is stronger than the pro. I think the biggest problem for me that Sony didn't give a reason to upgrade to the pro. I don't have a 4K tv so what's the point of buying one. If I wanted a 4K experience I would have bought a Pc. The Ps4 pro is unnecessary and no one asked for it.

What do you guys think? Will you buy it or not?

  • Nope im happy with my current ps4 and this is the first time im hearing about the pro.

I choose console because its a one off payment vs PC and constantly upgrading bits and bobs I dont want or need any added expenses thank you very much sony shove your pro up your ass.

  • I agree with you, what's the point of buying consoles if every year a there is a new one.

  • Like I posted in the other thread, the most annoying thing about most current generation games is that they are released in 30 frames per second and mostly focused on graphics. If the PRO gives people with a regular 1080p screen the option to choose better frame rate than resolution or graphical fidelity, then that makes those released games actually fully playable no matter what you prefer.

If the developer leave a frame rate option out, then we're screwed of course :)

  • Hopefully other devs will follow Crystal Dynamics/Nixxes and Tecmo's examples with Tomb Raider and Nioh, and include different rendering modes in the options menus (Nioh does that even in the regular PS4 based on the Alpha and Beta). So 1080p30 pushing graphics to the max, 1080p60 looking either as good or perhaps a bit better than on the regular PS4, and 4K30 (1620p, 1800p or full 2160p) with the same or slightly better settings than on regular PS4.

  • Well Scorpio is still 1 year away, and it'll like cost 400 to 500 $/€, not to mention the chances of the Pro getting a prive cut by then. Anyway, I'll likely be buying it day 1, better AA and downsampling could do wonders to IQ while I still hang on to my current TV, and of course there is the chance for 60fps in 1080p mode. Maybe when Naughty claimed that Uncharted 4 would run at 1080p60 in both SP and MP, back in 2014, they were actually talking about the Pro. That is if their 4K patch also includes a 1080p60 mode.

  • People buy console so they can play with it without upgrading each year. Most console users don't care about better frame rates or graphics if they cared they would have bought a PC. GTX 970 which is a two year old graphics card beats the ps4 and xbox one in everything.

  • When the Scorpio releases I bet you Sony will announce next year the PS5. What a weird generation!!!

  • It's great if you don't have a current gen console yet but if you already have a current gen console then it is worthless imo.

  • I doubt that. PS5 will probably come out late 2019. Besides Scorpio games will probably use the same type of checkerboard rendering the Pro does, seeing as most devs are more intrlerested in eye candy. Doesn't help Phil Spencer said Scorpio was pointless for those with 1080p TVs. At least Sony mentioned benefits such as better image quality, eye candy or framerate.

  • Wow now the companies are more focused on making powerful consoles rather than I don't know making good games!! The order was visually stunning but it's gameplay is garbage as a result the game had bad reviews.

  • Yes that is what I'm saying all along!! It's a pointless console and is it really worth another 400$ for a better frame rate and slightly better graphics?

That trend started somewhere in the last gen. Most devs have to push out that eye candy since there are those that likely won't notice if the framerate is bad. And graphics end up being better to sell more casual gamers on certain games. At least there are still plenty of devs that do focus on the gameplay aspect, like Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party studios, Platinum Games, From Software, etc.
