Why can't I enjoy "The Flash" as much as before?

You see, I'm a real nerd when it comes to the Tv show. I watched S1, S2, and now I'm on S3. The last two episodes were ok but not that good compared to S2 and S1. But in my opinion S1 still stands as the best season of "The Flash". I don't know if it's the writing but I feel like it's going downhill like with what's happening in Arrow. I'm curious to know what you guys think about the show.

  • Season 1 have a strong balance between drama and lightheartedness. We also have an amazing villain the Reverse-Flash. It was really engaging exploring his mystery and goal.

Season 2 is quite dark. There was this huge amount of seriousness and drama. Also while Zoom was cool, he wasn't as interesting as Reverse-Flash. If anything the twist with him was rather the same with Season 1, only done not as well. And this amount of darkness doesn't feel like it belongs in The Flash.

I haven't seen episode 2 of Season 3 yet, but I hope the season as a whole returns to the same feeling in Season 1.

  • I don't enjoy fast paced tv shows.

  • S3 only just started, I think it's a bit early to judge. I of course still love it. I haven't seen EP2 yet though.

  • The reason why I judged is because I was expecting S3 Ep1 to be a good kickoff to the whole season. But I think they did the Flashpoint way too fast.

  • That did seem a bit odd to me. But I don't think they did Flashpoint for no reason. There's bound to be more consequences.

  • Well maybe they couldn't show the full effects of the Flashpoint because most of the effects happen to the Justice League (in Flashpoint Paradox). I won't spoil Ep 2 for you but if you watch it send me a PM so I can tell you my theory based on ep 2.

  • I feel 100% the same way. I adored season 1 even with all it's flaws, but season 2 imo was largely a mess with huge pacing issues that ultimately screwed up the immediacy of the series. I feel like delaying Wally's transition, making Killer Frost only an alternative earth character all felt really rather pointless. Dr. Well's character was also much weaker and his daughter was annoying in her involvement. Time effects currently feel too inconsequential and I really feel like that's the main issue with the opener here. I thought Flashpoint would be an amazing jumping off point to an entire season of new characterizations, (a literal reboot of the show) and felt like it once again was totally wasted for a single episode rather than a nice half season plot or something.

  • I feel like the only one who hasn't watched Flash or Arrow.

I've been mainly sticking to their characters in the DCAU.

Despite the fact that Barry Allen in the show is cool, I am also quite excited for DCEU version of Barry Allen.

Wally West is the Flash in the DCAU.

  • Corrected.

It seems like DCEU Barry Allen is inspired a lot of DCAU Wally West.

  • I was thinking of the old cartoons, such as the Justice League animation series. Are we talking about the same thing?

  • From the early to mid-2000s, yes. :D

  • I'm giving the DC Extended Universe one more chance.

If they fuck up 3 movies in a row, I'm giving up on the DCEU, and I'll stick to the DCAU.

  • Technically for me, it is the second time in a row (BvS and Suicide Squad). I don't consider Man of Steel a screw up because I really enjoyed that movie.

I guess it all depends on either Wonder Woman and Justice League now.

And don't forget the other films the writers are planning.

  • My main source of frustration is their handling of Batman. It seems so painfully clear that they're rushing towards the Justice League. He didn't even get his own movie before Batman VS Superman. And instead of actually putting effort into his story and building it, they're skipping straight towards the Jason Todd story. Though I am a big Jason Todd fan so there's one upside.

You ain't the only one...But I am still willing to give Justice League a chance.

  • I think the right way would have been to make BvS into a Batman movie instead and then have a surprise appearance (If that is even possible nowadays) of Superman thus establishing it as the same universe. And then from there build toward Justice League.

I actually enjoy Ben's Batman, but I really don't like him killing criminals.

The plot was ok but the writing was bad. I expected more from the directors of show.

Edit: btw have you watched ep 2 of S3 yet? I have a theory but I won't say it to those who haven't watched it yet.

  • Flashpoint will have permanent repercusions. Mainly, how it destroyed the main timeline and change all the characters lives.

  • Well to be honest, I really don't see it. Maybe because I love the show to death but I have yet to see it lose quality, definitely not to the standards of arrow. To me the weakest point was when the tried to pretend Jay as Zoom killing Jay for absolutely no reason made sense. It really only did in the last ep when its revealed he just does it because he's crazy.

Like agent I feel like its too early for you to judge. So far its only two eps, one which some of us thought would have no repercusions. Alchemy seems interesting and I feel like the have a strong built for a season start. But maybe you cant see what you liked in the show so far.

Just wait a bit, hopefully you'll see the show the same again, if not better.
