Playstation VR!
I thought about posting this in the "What are you playing" thread, but then figured it might be worth starting a separate discussion seeing as it released today.
So um. Holy crap.
VR you guys. Wowie. I thought I'd be underwhelmed, but so far I am truly impressed at how immersive it is, and that's just with the Playroom and VR Worlds. The Playroom creeps me the fuck out, but the game I tried did really demonstrate the platformer/puzzler potential.
Worlds has a pretty groovy Deep Sea/Aquarium experience going, and Disco Ball, which is the VR, Tron-like iteration of Pong.
But the Scavenger Odyssey. The space gunner. I'll be honest. I'm typing this while waiting for my stomach to settle down after hopping around asteroids. Let's just say I now have a whole new respect for astronauts. So as a caution, it can be INTENSE, so definitely start with the easygoing stuff.
I have a few other games to try, including VR Valkyrie which I plan to give a shot tomorrow. Will report back on how it goes. Unless my eyeballs melt.

Okay, I'm back, and forging on with this for anyone out there who might care. Eyeballs are still go.
Valkyrie. It's a dogfighter. in. spaaaace. Somehow, it did not make me as motion sick as the other spacefaring adventure mentioned in my OP. T'was only a tinge, a simmering nausea.
But is it worth the mild discomfort? Hell yeah. As you might expect, if not for the VR, the game would be pretty average otherwise. The experience itself is 90% of it. It's immersive. Sitting in the cockpit and getting flung down the launch tube made me feel like Starbuck. Gimme a cigar and a glass of whiskey. Pew pew pew pew.
It's got different ship classes, customizables, and progression like that. Multiplayer has a few different modes, too, so the game's not completely basic - just standard, really. I can see myself sinking a few hours into this one so long as I've got some emergency dramamine on hand.
Next up, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood. I loved Until Dawn, but this looks like some sort of rollercoaster version.
Time for the Near Sighted epidemic generation to begin. Muwahahahaha.
I see this working best for Flight Simulations, and well simulations to be honest in general. Though I doubt I will ever pick such a thing up. It's bad enough having a monitor a few feet away, let alone two little screens an inch away. lol
I agree, personally I just see VR as the next gimmick. There is a game for it I'd like to play; The Assembly, but other than that I see nothing interesting. I think it will slowly disappear like Kinect and PS move.
Whether that turns out to be true or not, I'm having a blast with it now. For a first impression, Sony delivered.
The flight stuff has definitely been the most impressive so far, but these launch titles are making a pretty good argument for VR's potential at least. I'm starting to think that even a Telltale game could work brilliantly with VR elements, especially given that you can look all around yourself, and select objects by facing/looking at them. Imagine QTEs with a first-person dimension, too.
But the fad can live and die, so long as I get to play Star Trek Bridge Crew.
Well that's good. The most important thing is you're having fun, that's the only thing that matters
Alrighty, as promised, a few words on Rush of Blood. Pretty much is what it says on the box. You're on a rollercoaster and you shoot stuff, riding through various Until Dawn settings (the mansion, mines, asylum, etc). Lots of evil creepy clowns and baby doll heads. Jumpscares abound. There's also a bit of ducking and weaving you have to do, too, which is neat. I couldn't be arsed to charge the Move controllers I have beforehand, but admittedly this title probably works best with them instead of the regular controller. My gun hands (not finger guns, unfortunately) got a little glitchy/wonky at times. A pretty solid haunted house VR experience, though.
I think this may be the last post I make here, unless any of you want to hear about VR Arkham, the last one I've got on hand at the moment-- unless I break down and get 100ft Robot Golf.
