Does anyone feel like your initial first choices are always your canon choices?

I don't know if anyone else feel this way, but when I play a Telltale Games, the first initial choice always feels like the canon in my story. Whenever I replay an episode and pick new choices, it doesn't compare to my first choices during my first playthrough.

  • I don't. I always replay Telltale games at least once for my canon playthrough.

  • Most of them. I try to stay true to my first playthrough but sometimes my choices feel wrong or go against the way I'm playing the character.

Yeah, I agree. My first choices are my canon choices, even if I regret them. Such as [SPOILER] killing Danny in TWD S1 E2, I felt bad for doing it (because of Clementine) but I'm not going to change it.

  • Yep. I do like to see how different choices play out, but if I were to re-play a game making different decisions, then everything just feels "wrong." All choices are valid, but I always think of my original choices as canon.

  • Definitely. The player character will always feel more personal to me if I use my first choices as canon. If you know everything that will happen, then you can adjust you're choices accordingly. That's fine for some people, but for me, it feels disingenuous to do that. Also, making hard choices at a heart beat and having to live with the consequences is more true to life and it is how telltale designs their games to be played, in my opinion.

  • Yep, but that doesn't stop me from replaying an episode, but I will always use my first save every time a new episode is out.

Yes I do. I always use my first save as the one I stick with, because I didn't know the outcome of it or where it would lead to at the time. The choices I make in my first save are the realistic choices i'd make in each situation.

  • Yep, going back to replay doesnt seem fair.

Nah, not really. I play through once to get a feel for things and do a canon play through afterwards.

What I consider canon is based on my analysis of the character's personality/situation and how I think they would realistically react. To me, it gives the game more depth. Like in Michonne,I just played through first doing the things I would choose. The second time, I tried to make my choices reflect Michonne's personality (a bit more violent, using the silent and aloof options a bit more).

  • Same here. I prefer to live with my initial choices, even if I regret them later. And on second playthroughs where I am determined to be as ruthless and nasty as possible, I have a difficult time making different choices, especially when it means killing off a character.

  • Yes, I continue with the initial choices even if I regret them, after all thats the point of the game

  • nah, I replay the way I want to be canon.

  • Yeah I agree. It feels unnatural to create a "canon" save after the first experience. I never even really replay episodes until I've left a sufficient amount of time between playthroughs. Even then, I don't touch the first save file.

  • No. My first play through is my own choices, then I play it once more to get alternate choices, then I play it a third time for my canon playthrough, choosing which I think would make the best story. For instance, I picked Duncan as my sentinel in Game of Thrones, but seeing as that turned out with the traitor situation, Duncan made way more sense as the traitor, so for my canon playthrough I picked Royland.

  • Yes. I don't like going back and replaying for new choices, as it spoils the initial impact that the choices had, so the initial choice I make will always be the canon one, regardless if I think it was the worst option or not.

  • Neither one looked a good option as traitor, it was just extremly shitty writing.

  • Well, I do keep my original slot, but I usually do another one where I choose what I think the characters would do instead of me in the heat of the moment.
