Like many, Dragon Ball Z. Oh and with this intro which was the bomb.
The funny thing, I had no idea the clips the used for the opening were from the movies. I had no idea the movies even existed. When I found them movies, I loved the series even more.
Anime is just a generic term for Japanese Cartoons. People often try to say it's a "Style" of cartoon, but Japan has such a large range of styles within anime that it's impossible to define as a "Style." Heck they even make western like cartoons, and those are still considered anime. So in a lot of respects there isn't a fine line on what "anime" is allowed to look like so one can not define it by the style, and appearance, let alone story telling, being a lot of western cartoons have mature themes in them, and a lot of Japanese cartoons are immature so even that isn't a line. So no Avatar is not anime.
To say Avatar is anime would be like saying Boondocks is anime, or Archer is anime. They're also not anime. It would be like saying Teen Titans is anime, which it is not either. Even though Teen Titans did kind of have a co-op going for a while.
It's an epidemic really trying to define anime as a "Style" of cartoon. This argument is often brought up by Anime Fan's Version of Nazis. They believe in some form of anime supremacy over all forms of Media. In turn must define it's superiority as a style of cartoon to justify their own obsession with it.
Just because it is not Japanese does not make it not Anime. The term anime refers not wholly to shows from Japan with this style of animatio… moren in western terminology, but also the style itself.
While it may not be (for a lack of a better term) pure-blooded anime, it is still anime in that regard.

Fair points. I concede them all.

Yeah, "Anime supremacists" are ridiculous sometimes. Like trying to speak to a brick wall.

I had watched anime before, like Death Note. But I got into different stuff around the time of Code Geass. Political thriller and a different kind of action, was good. Still an amazing watch. I recommend it!
I also enjoyed the different style of anime here. Love seeing different art styles.
Also I read manga such as Claymore and Death Note when I was younger.
In the past few years, since leaving college I've been really into my anime.
Noo... noo... NOOOOOO! Sorry, I liked Code Geass, but I find myself embarrassed for liking it. Being I always rip on anime with similar plot twisting devices. Similar to how I like Gundam Seed, even though I rip on it so much. To be forward, Geass would of been perfect if they just ended the first season with a good series of concluding episodes, instead of making a 2nd season. 2nd Season was "Shovel Ware" with recycled plot from the first season and about triple the character cast and mecha for nothing more than merchandise, merchandise, Merchandise! lol I do hate it when something good becomes too popular.

Yeah, I agree. Season 1 was amazing. But 2 was dragged out alot.(I wont go into details, for spoiler reasons) Still thoroughly enjoyed. Ending made me happy, the way I look at it anyway

I dunno, I find it insanely hard to have an anime with a war as costly as seen on Geass to be well happy at the end. Everyone seemed to be happy at the end of it regardless of what happened, what friends or family they lost. It was an irritating ending. An unrealistic expectation of 'the war has ending, everything is good now' vibe. Dangerous message to teach to people honestly. Though that is kind of the trend in anti war messages in anime these days.
Heck even Gundam Unicorn had a happy go lucky ending. Though the writer did sneak in his Japanese Nationalist Agenda into the story, very sneaky in how he did it as well. ie 'oh peace didn't come because of happy go lucky, but the antagonist were all but exterminated.' seriously he hid that message in the story, and I seem to be one of the few who've noticed it. That's because I've read Japanese nationalist versions of Japanese Colonial history to catch his message. Heck the first episode the politics sound very revisionist but presented in a fictional Scifi anime.
