Yeah, it's been a while since I watched cartoons.

  • Was Spectacular Spiderman the one on Nickelodeon? I used to watch that.

I don't really watch much TV at the moment.

  • It was on Disney XD, I believe. It started in 2008 and ended in 2009.

  • Oh, okay. Maybe that was a different show.

Different subject, Is Batman: Rise of the Dark Knight (If that's what it's called) worth watching in your opinion? (I thought I'd ask you since you've watched it, right?)

    1. Avatar: The Last Airbender: One of the greatest animated series of all time, hell, one of the greatest shows of all time. A great storyline with complex characters, fantastic writing, and a great balance between humor and drama with a huge influence of Japanese anime as well as eastern and western philosophy. It's a kids show that doesn't treat it's audience like kids, it can be appreciated by people of all ages.
    2. South Park: While shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy have dropped in quality, South Park only seems to get better, it's brand of satire and parody has now practically been perfected. Both Trey Parker and Matt Stone target everyone and everything unapologetically, and that's what I love about it.
    3. Bob's Burgers: It has a lovable cast of characters and can make a humorous situation out of just about anything. Louise Belcher has to be one of the funniest characters from any animated show ever made.
    4. The Legend of Korra: Another amazing series by the creators of Avatar, it serves as a great sequel to the original show, even if it doesn't reach the heights of its predecessor. While its characters aren't as memorable or complex, it continues to go far and beyond what's expected of a kids show, discussing themes of terrorism, fascism, equality, and even sexuality.
    5. old Family Guy: Before it went insanely down hill, Family Guy was one of the funniest shows on TV. Like South Park, it had a tendency to poke fun at both sides of certain issues, without worrying who it offended. It was when they still acted like a family that appeared to care about each other (except for Meg) and all the characters were likable, but now, you just can't stand them, and neither can the characters in the show for that matter.

    I am an anime fan.
    Anime are technically cartoons.
I wager that in Japan they call our cartoons anime.
After all, anime is just short for Animation.
It's simply how Japan refer to their cartoons (as they don't use the word cartoon).

They have kids cartoons that don't fit into the usual Anime stereotype as recognized by the west and they still call them anime.

Cartoon - A film using animation techniques to photograph a sequence of drawings rather than real people or objects.

Pretty much Anime is just the term we adopted from Japan to refer to their cartoons, only we use it exclusively for Japanese cartoons rather than all as a result of this.

And because of Anime becoming a kind of subculture in western society and how it's viewed (both from the inside and out), people get really iffy on what Anime means to the culture compared to what it really means.

Growing up, I've watched cartoons on Nickelodeon, Disney and Cartoon Network. Even on other channels every Saturday. There's too many for me to count, but I will list some of the ones I am currently still watching.

    NICKELODEON
The Loud House - The newest show on Nick that features one boy with 10 different sisters. I've really started liking this a lot after watching a couple episodes mainly because of the sibling bonding between them and the themes of some episodes are (somewhat) similar to what I've gone through with my older sister. Like, fussing over money, getting the good spot in the car, making a family photo and chores. But by the end of each episode, they all still love each other very much no matter what.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) - I've watched this ever since it premiered four years ago, and I've really enjoyed how the plot as a whole has been progressing. Even showing easter eggs and old characters from older series of TMNT while also bringing in new characters to keep it all more interesting and exciting. I also like how April, Casey and Karai are teenagers like the Turles instead of adults, like in the 2003 series. I heard it said that Usagi will also return soon. I'd be impressed if they would bring Tokka and Rahzar in the show as well.

    DISNEY XD
Phineas and Ferb - It's always been so interesting to see what they both can come up with for every episode. Some of which looked so cool, I wished that were actually possible. I also liked the comedy of the Perry the Platypus/Agent P and Doofenshmirtz battles and Candace's many failed attempts to bust her brothers. My favorites were the "Across the 2nd Dimension Movie", the "Attack of the Pharmacists" episode, the crossover with the Avengers "Mission Marvel" and the finale episode "Act Your Age".

Star Wars Rebels - The Clone Wars series was really cool and when I saw the preview trailer for Rebels, I was hyped. My favorite episodes are the ones that show the characters from Clone Wars and the movies. Currently, there's some similarities with this show and the game "The Force Unleashed", which I still wish they would make a 3rd game of, but I'm really curious as to what lies ahead in Ezra's future.

    CARTOON NETWORK
Regular Show - It's been enjoyable for me. What I always liked about it are the action scenes. Be it car chases, racing, fisticuffs, competitions, ect. The retro soundtrack is also cool to listen to, and the in-sync singing Mordecai and Rigby do from time to time. And now with a new season that is currently taking place in space, the big question I'm wondering about it is "When will they ever return to Earth?"

Pokemon series - Ever since I was kid, I've enjoyed watching this series. I also liked the movies and playing the games. My favorite is the XYZ series, because of the introduction to the Mega Evolution and also the moments between Serena and Ash.

  • Too many to list overall so I'll name my favourite modern cartoons in recent memory.

    • Adventure Time
    • Over the Garden Wall
    • Gravity Falls
    • Steven Universe
    • The Amazing World of Gumball
    • Regular Show
    • We Bare Bears
    • Star Wars Clone Wars/Rebels
  • Growing Up Creepie - twas a childhood favorite of mine :)

    SpongeBob SquarePants

    Hey Arnold!

MAR: Marchen Awakens Romance - twas an anime

Eureka Seven - I remember staying up to watch this anime

Batman: The Brave and the Bold

    Young Justice: Invasion

    South Park

    Aaahh!!! Real Monsters

It was practically Nickelodeon cartoons that made my childhood xD

I am utterly surprised some of the cartoons I am going to list has not been listed yet.

Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated - Best cartoon ever in my opinion. This is probably the most serious cartoons where 7/10 of the scenes are drama. There is a lot of talking like telltale's games. The story is VERY complex so are the characters. I really liked the soundtrack as well. It is also quite tragic and I felt like I was watching an anime instead of a cartoon. The voice acting is also perfect. Characters are dark and complex. There is also a sub-plot about relationships and father and son blood relations which you would see only in a PG rated show. The scenes with the old Mystery Inc. group are the perfect ones, the backstory, love triangles, betrayals between them is just exciting. The violence is also quite a lot, where there are many instances where poison is injected, guns are being used, explosions etc. Sexual themes are also quite frequent. There are a few episodes in Season 1 which are complete I'd say quite childish (in my opinion), but towards the end of those episodes, the mood definitely comes back. MUST WATCH

Avatar: The Last Airbender - I don't quite remember story as it didn't leave a big impact on me like Mystery Inc. did. But I remember it dealt with situations where audience of all ages would enjoy. If I do not remember correctly, the storyline is quite good as well. Definitely worth giving it a shot!

Regular Show - Now, this is probably one of the few comedy cartoon I enjoyed. I can honestly say some of the episodes are good, especially the Mordecai, Margaret and CJ love triangle. Worth trying out a few episodes to see if you like it.

Batman: The Animated Series - Plot was okay, characters were okay, themes were... okay? Two-Face did frighten me a bit though. I don't really remember exactly it is as it has been years since I watched it.
