What's your opinion on PewDiePie?

edited October 2016 in General Chat

Thread says it all. What's your opinion on the man with the most subscribers on YouTube?

I personally hate his content and think he's a little overrated. But he's also a nice person because of all the stuff he does for charity. So, I hate him as a YouTuber, but I like him as anything else.

I've heard there are mixed opinions about him, so...I want to hear yours.

I think he's ok but not by much. Is he the best? No. Is he the worst? Maybe but Iv'e seen worst youtubers then him. But yeah I think he's definitely overrated. Also I don't think he's that great to deserve fan art either. But his fans just love him.

  • Dislike him as a YouTuber, like him as a person.

    Overrated.

Can't believe that he gets paid as much as he does. Reminds me of how stupid poeple are . Him and Pokemon Go

A fine youtuber who seems to care about the content he makes. He uploads everyday ( two videos a day I think ? ) which means he is ready to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to his ''bros'' and that he is serious about what he does. I have seen him film videos while sick and/or tired. I have seen him put himself in extremely ridiculous situation simply to entertain us ( I mean why would he do it for the money, he knows very well he won't get paid anymore if he curses and yet he still curses ).
He seems to be honest about what he thinks most of the time : it doesn't matter if it's about him, other youtubers or subjects that have nothing to do with youtube, he will be able to express himself through comedy without being unnecessarily rude to anybody.
Professionally speaking he is serious, hardworking, and efficient. His content is satisfying enough for me. It's a shame he doesn't take some games seriously ( some that should be taken seriously ) and I understand it's frustrating for those who played those games before watching his videos. It's still his style of gaming, his channel, and it's still definitly nice to have something that makes us smile ( for those who appreciate his work ).

I don't feel like he screams that much anymore ? I understand why people would dislike what he does but I don't think it's right to judge if he deserves his subscribers. Entertenment is done in a way where it's all in the hands of the viewers. In clear, he has worked to get where he is now, but he is also very lucky. It's life people, just like people like some kind of music, and make their artist rich, people like some kind of entertenment and make their youtuber rich. It cannot always be your favorite youtuber/artist.

Work aside. He is genuine, shy and an overall a good person. He is smart, mature ( in a way ), and have become ''strong'' enough to overcome all the unnecessary criticism that fills his comment section. I appreciate the multiple gestures he has made in the past for charities, and the multiple gestures he is still making for people who suffers from depression or simply need something to get a good laugh on.

To conclude, he is my favorite youtuber but it all comes down to preferences. He meets my humor and may not meet yours. As a person who is rather introverted and shy, I guess it's easy to get attached to youtubers ( I basically have nothing to give and all to recieve ). I also think a lot of people are really hard on him and I don't understand why at all. I admire his ability to keep a smile on his face despite the unnecessary hate he gets.

Why do you go as far as ''hating'' him ?

  • Liked him when I was a lot younger. Haven't seen many of his newer videos as I got older.

  • I remember being a huge fan of his back when he made videos on actual video games - The last of Us, Amnesia, etc. and he did really make me wish I could do what he was doing some day. However then when he made videos on online games, I got bored and stopped watching him. However I will admit he still makes me laugh from time to time.

So I don't hate him as a youtuber at all, I just don't have that much of a opinion of him. Also, he does seem like a decent guy so I don't hate him as a person either.

  • he is pretty good...not an ass like some....not the best but entertaining enough.

  • He is ok .

But he had his youtube channel since a long time . Plus he puts in a lot of effort.

    Hence more subs .

  • I recall watching him from the very start, when the kid was making videos in the basement (?) of his girlfriend's mom's house. He managed to make me chuckle and I got into some of the games he played because of him. I don't watch him as much now but when I do, I respect the guy for being dedicated to his work.

He seems like a chill person off camera. There are YouTubers much worse than this guy, so I can't say I hate him or find him annoying. He's alright in my books.

  • I find him a bit lazy when it comes to doing Telltale walkthroughs. Heck, he hasn't even completed Game of Thrones yet.

  • Indeed.

He got better when he became a self aware meme.

  • I think he's pretty cool.

I guess I technically can't have much of an opinion of him, considering I have yet to watch any of his videos from beginning to end. A few years ago my brother would show me short clips from some of his content, so I think I know the general trend of his channel. I can't say I have much of a problem with him, considering all this. While his videos may not be ground-breaking, he seems respectable as a person, from what I've seen and heard. I also hear that he treats his fanbase nicely and consistently puts out content, so kudos to him for that. Maybe it is a little bit crazy that he makes so much money from his gaming videos, but whatever success he earns is deserved, in my opinion.

Hate him? Bit harsh. He's a cool dude, he is the most subscribed person on YouTube by millions but still hasn't lost sight of his fan base and the community he has made. You might hate his content but I think it's a bit unfair to hate the person. He showed the world gaming entertainment is real and something to mess with, he has a gorgeous girlfriend (that has a great channel herself), has made millions, yet still stays true to his channel when he could have quit years ago. A true legend in every sense of the word.

    Ho boy.

Guy has managed to donate a lot of money for charity (raised over a million dollars in 2014) and clearly cares about the content he makes and his fanbase, and is not afraid to call them out for doing dumb bullshit. You may not like his PewDiePie persona but you can't dislike Felix.

Of course it's the cool thing nowadays to hate anything that's popular for no particular reason so... ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • Pewdiepie ? Yeah he was my favorite youtuber

Until he became this crappy version of Filthy Frank .

I still watch some of his videos , he's still funny , but not the best as i used to think ..

  • I have discovered some of my favorite games thanks to him (The Last of Us, TWD S1). Well, indirectly TFTB as well, since I found out about Telltale when he played TWD S2 and The Wolf Among Us. So for that alone I respect him. Last console generation I mostly played Guitar Hero and Wii sports, and some racing games and Mario games, and he was a part of giving me the kind of gaming interest I have today.

  • Dont really get the whole fake screaming while playing games stuff. But 38m people or whatever are watching so...yeah

  • That's so bro

    He's a bro.

  • He's not my cup of tea personally when it comes to entertainment, but I think it's awesome that he tries to help others by raising money for charity. He seems like a really good person.

  • He does good work and has used his clout to help less popular games become mainstream.

Heck, telltale games got a huge boost from him playing their games.

  • Pewdiepie helped make stuff like the games made here into mainstream stuff and he has donated a ton to charity. He's a nice guy who is humble.

  • Videos are usually clickbait, relies on YouTube too much.

But he's not a bad person, don't get me wrong

  • I can't remember the last time I've seen his videos but from peeking at his channel it looks like he doesn't give a crap anymore.

    Idk I guess I'm indifferent.

  • I like him as a person and as a Youtuber. Whilst I think he can be over the top, I still enjoy some of his content and I, like many other fans of his, were cheered up by his videos during our worst days and for that alone, I respect him and will be his fan as long as I can <3

Man oh man do I have some words about him. Surprisingly not all negative ones.

When I was 13 and just starting out discovering YouTube and all of the magical shitty things on the site, my pal Nathan recommended that I watch, as he put it, "A sweedish man screaming at games named PewDiePie". So I was a bit intrigued. I watched a few episodes and fell in love with the guy. Thought his content was funny and the games he played kicked some serious ass, not to mention he seemed like a really great guy. PewDiePie, sadly, used to be the only YouTuber I would watch for a long time. Then one day I decided to check out some of the pals he played games with. That led to me watching Cinnamon Toast Ken, TheRPGMinx, Cryaotic and Markiplier, who I all loved to watch.

I don't really know when, but somewhere down the line Felix started to change his content. It was a lot more heavily edited and the titles were much different than they had been prior. I didn't like this new change and for a while I was one of the losers who said "What happened to the old PewDiePie! The old PewDiePie was much better!!" (I was 15, cut me some slack man). So I ignored his channel for a bit. In that time I also dropped Mark and Ken, but continued to watch Minx and watched a bunch of the Late Night with Cry and Russ streams. Sooner or later I came across JonTron, Cinemasins, Caddicarus, I Hate Everything and Game Grumps (and every channel affiliated with them) and decided to come back and check out PewDiePie in late 2015 after having a generally negative opinion of him.

To my surprise, he was actually posting some pretty quality content. Sure not all of it was funny, but he definitely put some visible effort into it and completely expanded his horizons, if not with becoming a bit meme-y. I went back and watched his old content as well, and hoooo boy. That was fucking shit. I'm glad he moved on from that because that was awful. Jack and Mark are more tolerable because they're more real with viewers and have, idk, actual talent. But you could just feel how forced most of his reactions were. After Amnesia: TDD, you could just tell he was playing it up to views because he found out the secret. Jesus.

What do I think of him now though? He's a pretentious douchebag with arrogance up the ass and no consideration for others, he doesn't visibly show love for his adoring fanbase and goes out of his way to belittle his fans, other people and insert himself in YouTube drama he has no experience or information to be talking about just so he can be a dick to everyone in their lowest times. However, he's still confident, his non-drama centered videos are well done and even with a huge shift in content the dude is growing pretty fast. So I guess he's alright or whatever.

  • Sometimes effort doesn't mean subscribers, man. I Hate Everything puts more effort into his videos than PewDiePie ever has and the guy only has a little over 1 Million subs after 3+ years of YouTube. PewDiePie just draws in a specific audience with his style of video making and personality that no other YouTuber has, which means he'll get more attention than most others.

He is ok . But he had his youtube channel since a long time . Plus he puts in a lot of effort. Hence more subs .

  • Hiya FouseyTube, didn't expect to see you on the forums, eh?

  • While I don't really like his content, he seems like a nice guy and I have nothing but respect (and jealousy) for the man and what he have done :) He also have quite an ability to know what type of video will be popular, and he have been doing the YouTube-thing for so long that his appearance is so natural :p

Sometimes, though, I dislike that he can do just about anything and it'll be successful, in comparison to smaller YouTubers. When you work hard on stuff like titles, descriptions, tags, profile and cover pictures, thumbnails, etc., and nothing is happening. Then you go to PewDiePie's channel and many of these doesn't make any sense for a Let's Player, and his SEO SHOULD be horrendous, judging by what he do... But his popular so all that doesn't matter (see what I mean about jealousy) :p

Could you give me an example how he has done these? Just wondering. Or are you just blowing things way out of proportion?

insert himself in YouTube drama he has no experience or information to be talking about just so he can be a dick to everyone in their lowest times.

No experience in drama? Are you sure? Everytime he's mentioned in something he's always the target, without fail. Example being the Warner Bros paying people to give good reviews to Shadow of Mordor without telling people they are sponsored. Out of every YouTuber who took the offer he is right on the title and is the first name mentioned. Except he did include in the description of the video that he was sponsored. Other than that he isn't even a game reviewer, and all he did was say "I like this game".

  • Could you give me an example how he has done these?

    Gladly.

    • Creating a channel he know will get millions of subscribers and gloating about his new Golden play button from YouTube while people who put real effort into their videos and channels are still behind at less than 500,000k.

    • He has made fun of Toby Turner for being a rapist despite how they used to be friends, He's made fun of multiple smaller YouTubers for hating on him, he's made multiple tweets making fun of fans and he has consistently been a douchebag.

    • He constantly does things that could put his entire career at risk knowing that Twitter and YouTube won't drop him because he's PewDiePie.

    • He hasn't properly sat down and thanked the people who got him to this point in a little over 2 years and any time he does make a video about a marker he's hit, he just memes and talks about how he's the best in the world. It's not supposed to be taken seriously but honestly how could you not when he acts like a doucher everywhere else.

Not at all what I meant. I was talking about the Keemstar and Leafy shit, the shit about rape allegations towards multiple YouTubers, false claims on other YouTubers that could ruin their lives and he makes fun of them, etc, etc. But that's just what I've seen of course. He could be a great guy on the inside and he's just being a jackass for fun. Idk. Either way I don't like the guy as a person because he has done scummy shit. (Charity work doesn't make you a good person, it means you helped someone out, just thought I'd mention that.)

Either way I don't want to get into an argument about it or start shit, as it's early in the morning and I'm sick as hell. If you feel differently about him that's alright, I don't care. I just don't like him at all.
