Male or Female Singers?

When you listen to music, do you prefer to hear a male voice or a female voice? Why?

I personally prefer a female voice over a male one. I find them more soulful and emotional. Plus, they have a more wider vocal range.

What's your insight?

  • Both.

From my two favourite singers, one has an opera background and the other, heavy metal. It's pretty stereotypical which is which, but whichever mood I'm in, I absolutely love both.

  • As long as they sing good I don't really care.

  • It depends on the voice not the gender for me, as long as they sing emotionally and I can feel that emotion or a contrasting one, then I like it.

They just have to be good. my examples.

Lynn Gunn dont listen to pvris much but I like her voice.

    (probably my favourite vocalist) Chino

  • Probably Till Lindemann

  • Most of my favourite singers are male so I guess that counts.

  • I prefer female singers as a general rule, largely due to the reasons you cited.

  • I also like both, but I've noticed lately that I'm listening more to female lead singers. I'm not sure if my preferences are changing or if they just happen to be releasing more albums I'm interested in all at the same time.

  • Male singers, idk why.

But to me nobody compares to Freddie Mercury voice.

  • Depends on the music, both males and females do fine by me in music.

  • I dislike male vocals. I like deep, soulful female singers. I don't like high singing voices. Amy Winehouse's voice is perfection.

  • Dislike male vocals but enjoy deep soulful vocals. Well, that seems counter-intuitive.

  • In general I prefer female singers. I love their range more than I do males'. Halsey, for example, has an absolutely stunning voice. That being said it's not like I avoid male singers, I enjoy both thoroughly often dependent on the mood I'm in. When I'm in a mood for rap males are the only way to go. I'm definitely not a fan of female rappers by and large.

  • Each one does better in different genres and styles. I'd say what I adore the most is both at the same time; male-female harmonies and harmonies in general have always appealed to me more than just one voice.

  • Sexist pig

    Male.

  • Amy Winehouse's voice is just so beautiful! The top played songs on my iTunes are all Amy.

    I concur.

  • To be honest neither. Because they're best when together.

  • True, but not sure.....something about that male voice just doesn't appeal to me.

  • I like both but recently I've been leaning to female singers.

  • Why not both? I don't really care about the gender as long as the voice is good itself.

  • Both are pretty good. But honestly, it depends on what kind of song they're singing and what genre it is.

  • Both are fine honestly, but I mostly listen to bands with male singers. It's nothing against female singers at all in fact I would love to listen to more female singers, but their doesn't seem to be a lot in the genre of music I like (rap/rock.) The only female singers I really listen to are Whitney Peyton and Skillet. If anyone has recommendations of female singers in the rap rock genre I am interested though.

  • Though question. I'm a big fan of both, though I tend to like female vocalist better since listening to Hailey Williams of Paramore can be a lot more relaxing for me than per say Tim Mcilrath of Rise Against. I know, bad comparison. But those are two of my favorites. Honestly it just depends on the day. I could listen to The Holy Roman Empire just as easy as I could listen to Motion City Soundtrack. The male-female thing doesn't matter much to me.

  • My favorite singer is a male, but overall females.

It's not. She's overrated. And was a racist.
