The NOM (National Organisation for Marriage) has set out its plan to get rid of marriage equality.
Now that Trump is president they have set out this plan, which will likely come to the supreme court and some stage or another over the next years. If Trump puts more conservatives on the supreme court board (which he's said is a priority of his first 100 days), it'll almost certainly get passed.

"We will work with President Trump to nominate conservative justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, individuals who will adhere to the words and meaning of the constitution. Such justices will inevitably reverse the anti-constitutional ruling of the Supreme Court imposing same-sex ‘marriage’ on the nation in the Obergefell decision, because that decision lacked any basis in the constitution.
We will work with President Trump to rescind the illegal, over-reaching executive orders and directives issued by President Obama, including his dangerous “gender identity” directives, attempting to redefine gender just as he sought to redefine marriage."
In the words of Morgan Freeman "Oh Dear"
Well at least we know the knives are being readied.
One step forward, one giant tumble right back down the goddamn stairs.
RIP Gay Marriage 2016-2016
Yep, Trump's already undoing the good done in 2016.
Well that was a cool one year for marriage equality.
"""Small government™"""
Fuck this.
I think I may have officially lost all hope in this country. All I want to do is marry someone I love. That's all I want to fucking do.
Why, just why would they waste their time with this bullshit.
It depends on whether or not Trump acts on his "neutral" stance on same sex marriage and finds a suitable compromise.
Unless Pence convinces him the other way.
But it isn't up to Trump really, it'll be up to the Supreme court.
The only way it won't happen is if he puts in pro-gay marriage justices, which won't happen - he's expressed the desire for very conservative justices.
Oh well. I'm sure something extreme is gonna happen soon, with the way people are protesting against Trump.
I cannot help but feel disgust at the pathetic people running these policies and pity for those who will not be able to marry in the future.
On an unrelated note—what would hypothetically happen if both President-elect Trump and Pence the Clown were to be assassinated? Who would be left in charge?
I'm sure there's a whole chain of command after they set out their cabinet, but it would probably trigger another election anyway. Which would result in a Republican win, because people would be sympathetic to them and view the Democrats as responsible. If a muslim did it things would get ten times worse for them, but that's going to happen over the next 4 years anyway, so shrug.
That is probably an accurate portrayal of what would happen.
I had not even thought about how American Muslims will be affected. I believe that this decision will inevitably give certain people the courage to go outside and commit atrocious acts of hatred-fueled violence against minorities.
LoL I see what you did there.
Same
First off that is not even funny in hypotheticals..and next in line would be the Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
Hate crimes against Muslims increased by 88% during the campaign, it's already happening
If you think the protesters are bad now, just wait till this happens. Things are going to get bad quick.
All those people who voted for trump because they "didn't want a war with Russia" are going to have to shift their concerns because there's going to be a war with ourselves at this rate.
Jill Stein's claims about Clinton potentially starting a war with Russia—which were indeed supported by Anonymous in a terrorizing fashion—set off an alarm within me at one point; though I am not familiar with her, her principles and her accomplishments, and decided to shrug it off.
Believe me when I say that I am extremely self-conscious about how uniformed I am when it comes to specifics revolving around these elections and other US matters.
How did I manage to make that sentence so complicated?
I did not propose this question for laughs.
Is Paul Ryan decent-ish, or is he radical?
He is very conservative
Speaker of the house is next in line.

The Electoral College is that they would to continue to cast the president and vice president-elect, but no other candidate would be reaching 270. I'd assume in that scenario, the new House of Representatives would end up picking the president by simple majority, and with a Republican-controlled Congress, it would certainly be a Republican. If it wasn't, there would be a lot, a lot of anger.
Another case is that the Electoral College selects a new president, but that is very rare. I would be very surprised.
That sounds preferable to a war between two nuclear superpowers.
To all the people who are gay, bi, or whatever persuasion you identify as and now have to have your rights that have been fought so hard for taken back away as if your birthrights are being stripped.
I'm so sorry.
Sorry but Trump doesn't support NOM. These guys are just a pathetic excuse for a hate group. Not sure about Pence tho...
Hate to stomp on everyone's parade, but I highly doubt the Supreme Court will get rid of gay marriage. Honestly, I can understand the alarm, but calm down, folks. Jack shit has happened yet, stop kissing life as you know it goodbye.
That's irrelevant. Trump will put conservative judges who almost certainly do not support marriage equality on the supreme court, and they will drop marriage equality.
Wasn't it a 3:2 vote? And Trump will be able to replace up to three members during his presidency?
He's already said he plans to get a new member on the supreme court in his first 100 days, and it's very unlikely he'll put in a very conservative supporter of gay marriage.
Also saying you're 'stomping on everyone's parade' implies we're happy about this on some level. We aren't.
Trump has nothing to do with the issue you have presented. Marriage equality isn't going anywhere.
..what? Did you read my comment?
Marriage equality was passed by the supreme court judges 3 votes to 2. Donald trump will select new, more conservative justices.
If Marriage equality gets put before the supreme court again, as is planned, after the justices have been replaced, it could easily be gotten rid of.
It's not about whether Trump supports gay marriage or not, it's about whether the new justices he puts on the supreme court will, which is unlikely as to appease the Republicans he'll have to put on very conservative justices.
What justices presidents put on the Supreme court is a massive, massive part of their impact on America.
So explain to me how the president who gets to pick supreme court justices has no impact whatsoever on whether, when taken to the supreme court, marriage equality will be removed?
I hope that same sex marriage stays. Because why shouldnt it!
I'll never really understand Americas obsession with social conservatism. I mean i just seems so backward in a modern society.
I mean this is just pointless and will cause massive backlash and make...who happy exactly? Most right wing voters are not interested in this taking up court time, so apart from a few bible bashers this wont make anyone happy. Hopefully the courts realize this is a pointless move and will make lots of people unhappy. Theres no real rationale to overturning someones marriage rights apart from being religiously zealous.
I think actually a lot of right wing people would be happy with this taking up court time. There are a HELL of a lot of same-sex oppositionists in America, it's not just a vocal minority.
Maybe, I just think it would be surprising that even the biggest homophobes would think this should take precedent over other more important issues.
It's less about precedent really - there are 4 years of Trump presidency coming up and there aren't always during this period going to be court cases that right-wing people view as more necessary than rescinding marriage equality.
