Well, you do not have to be a member of the KKK to support them. Anonymity was once their greatest Ally. They had major high/low moments in history. Highest I think was in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, at the pain of any African that wanted to serve in the US Army in WWII if you recall. They went so far to say that "Africans are unable to use modern technology." So would be unable to properly serve in the Army because of Tanks, Planes, Machine Guns, etc. Pathetic really, being Africans have fought for the United States since it's foundation, in every conflict including the Indian Wars. But magically during WWII there was GREAT resistance to let them serve in the US Army, and Government.
I forgot the exact year, but if I recall the KKK was once numbered over a million. They had enough willing followers to march on Washington DC with 300,000 strong.
Anonymity as I said was their strength and their weakness. Take that away and most members of the KKK would disperse. Eventually did. Today only the most radical openly admit to be members or even supporters of the KKK, and only those who have nothing to lose politically either. With today you have to deal with hackers. Emails, addresses, names can be found. That once powerful wall of anonymity is much more difficult to keep.
That being said, in my humble opinion the KKK are the absolute lowest of the pecking order when it comes to White Supremacists. They've been over shadowed by far worse groups.
