Well, not going to watch the trailer. Because I prefer to be surprised for Telltale's final two episodes, (though I did see the B:Unmasked clip and their teaser of Mr J yesterday. Don't want to be too blind...) but still really excited for whatever will happen in this episode. Plus, (I know it's been said before, just putting my two cents in) on TTG's blog post about the EP4 trailer, they have:
Special note: Players will leave this episode in very different places depending on where they choose to go in the third act, and this will greatly affect their story rolling into the season finale as well.
This is HUGE. We've never really had Telltale blatantly tell us "your playthrough will be different from someone else's by the time this is done." I'm not one to care much about the choices only matter if they change my story a lot, I just prefer the journey of my own choices to get the the same end. But this? Cool.. Seems like people will start out at different places with different situations in episode 5.
We've only ever seen "Same place, different situation" after a choice when starting an episode, right? Because the way they worded it seems like people can be at different places with different situations at the end. Either way, suuuper excited for what's to come. Hopefully we get three choices of where to go instead of two. They did mention once that they're trying to make less binary choices....
The only times I can think of where episodes opened differently based on major decisions in previous episodes is EP2 of WD S2 where you picked who to go with and thus hold up in an entirely different location and with a different character, and then Ep2 of Minecraft SM where the first third of the episode change based on your pick of hero to locate, though the opening is mostly the same outside who you're travelling with. So interested to see what this will mean for Episode 5.

That happened with Game of Thrones as well. An entire plotline was completely different in the finale depending on your choices in the previous Episode. I'm hopeful Telltale will pull something similar again with Batman.

It appears that the clip and the sections of the trailer pertaining to Oz were misleading. In fact, we will not be seeing a typical showdown between Batman and Penguin. Instead, they will engage in an epic singing battle. Whoever can belt the superior rendition of "Loving You" wins and becomes the CEO of Wayne Enterprises. The loser, however, is sentenced to sharing a bed in Arkham Asylum with Blockbuster every night.
Who knows, it might be awesome. I do hope that Joker's appearance is more like a set-up for future season and I do find the idea of interact… moreing with the Joker to be cool.
I would really have a problem if it turns out the Joker was behind everything. That, I can't agree with.
No, you get over it. You've been filling the forum with your tripe for weeks, and some of us have reached our wits' end. At this point you'r… moree almost as bad as the Kenny haters.
You can go on whinging all you like, but we've got The Joker now. You don't like it, don't play the damn game.

I was looking at the press release on another site, and found an interesting detail - in the cast list, Joker goes by "John Doe".
Notice that they've refrained from specifically calling him the Joker yet whenever they talk about the episode.
I haven't really consumed any Batman media containing Harvey before this game, but for the most part, I'd say I have to agree. I've seen multiple clips from Batman: The Animated Series and a few comic pages that display Harvey wearing the apparel you described. I wouldn't find the inclusion of that type of suit to be particularly bothersome, and I suppose it is a rather iconic look, but while it wouldn't seem out of place, it really would be up in your Two-Face. Granted, when someone thinks Batman, subtlety is hardly one of the first things that come to mind. Not to say that modern Batman iterations don't contain any thought-provoking and more subtle narratives, but there are people flying around town dressed in leather/armor hybrid costumes and delivering vigilante-style justice. Such things are not the epitome of subtlety for most people. I feel like I worded this badly. I tried, I tried.
I might be alone in this, but I like that they aren't doing the thing where each side of his suit is a different color. I mean, he's called … moreTwo Face, not Two Face-and-suit-too.
But seriously though, I prefer just having one solid color for his suit, rather than a suit that seems to exist solely to say "hey, this guy has two personalities, can you tell yet"

I do think seeing Joker is going to be fun, as long as he is only in it for episode 4, then maybe if we get a season 2 he can be the main antagonist then, just dont shoe horn him in and do something like "IT WAS THE JOKER ALL ALONG! HE WAS PULLING ALL THE STRINGS YOU FOOLS!"
I kinda wish they never revealed him in the trailers though, Id love to see fan reaction to enter Arkham and meeting him the first time without expecting him.
So we have:
* Yeah, that's him. The laugh, the white skin, the green hair, the smile, and even the personality, that is definitely The … moreJoker. While I'm not entirely surprised to see Joker show up this season, as an appearance from Batman's Archenemy is generally a given in any media, I am surprised that he seems to be making such a big, direct, appearance, even if it's just in a supporting role at Arkham Asylum. I was expecting just teasing, foreshadowing, or a pre-Joker bad guy before we saw the genuine article actually show up. Really interested to see how they handle him here, and what kind of dynamic he'll have with Bruce, especially since this is apparently before he becomes the Clown Prince of Crime of Gotham and obsessed with Batman.
* Blockbuster, Arnold Wesker (The Ventriloquist) and possibly Victor Zsasz (the guy trying to stab Bruce) in Arkham.
* Vicki going "missing" after drugging Bruce. Doesn't seem like we'll see mu… [view original content]
The only time I can remember Joker having a name was 1989 Batman, although that wasn't a comic. I do hope they don't give him a name though, it would be cool if when we get into Arkham he isn't known as the Joker yet, but just as some crazy person and no one knows his name.
I'm wondering if they'll give this iteration of Joker an actual name.
I can't remember any Joker story that actually gave him a name. Eve… moren the most (arguably) popular Joker backstory didn't give him a name.
I'd be fine with a name, as long as they don't do something like Jay Oker.

I'm not saying it's bad writing nor am I saying that Joker can't appear. I'm just saying he's overused to the point where his whole characte… morer had gotten stale and dull in the past couple of years.
He's not the focus, of course, but if his role in Episode 4 is nothing but blatant fan service then that's where I start complaining that the only reason Telltale went this route was just to pander to the fans and nothing else.
It's same kind of complaints I have with the forced Bruce Selina relationship in this story; it literally just feels like fan pandering.
There was an arc in the Batman comics where The Joker thought he had killed Batman, and retired his Joker persona to become a sane man. His alternate identity was called "Joseph Kerr."

To be frank, I'm not sure that I feel good about Joker being in the story, I feel frustrated by his overuse, and I don't really enjoy it.
I would much rather other characters and stories be fleshed out that just feature him over and over, the Arkham games were utterly stupid in how much they focused on him, even when he was dead, and Origins was absolutely shameful in how the marketing team did a bait and switch with the other villains who barely featured and did absolutely nothing.
I have been enjoying this so far because they didn't focus on him, because I've seen his story repeatedly, and it gets hard to find it unique and interesting, and I also really enjoyed the more grounded approach Telltale has been taking with Batman (less fantastical elements and nothing supernatural so far), the most extreme would probably be Arkham's sonic tech and jet boots. And I really find the dynamic of a new generation taking down the old criminal empire really interesting.
So yeah... I don't know, it might be good anyway, but I'm just a bit tired of him. I would have really enjoyed it if Harley Quinn was featured in the story without Joker, because that tends to be when she shines and has her most interesting character development.
It also comes off as a bit dumb that they for some reason put Bruce in an insane asylum where people stab each other, beat each other, and try to kill each other. And the game began with them trying to shut the institution down.
And again, I point out that he had visibly pronounced veins and the entire city should know about the chemical compounds and what they do to people. So unless it's a "permanent" dose and they are trying to help him, this comes off as very unrealistic to me. Especially if he is acting sane anyway.

The Joker is like the Superhero genre in general.
People only say they're tired of him when they make a bunch of bad renditions.
You get… more Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, everyone's fed up with the Joker and Superheroes.
You get Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and people will flock for them.
Agreed, I mean he's not my all time favourite Batman villain - those honours go to a constant cycle of Mister Freeze, Two Face and Scarecrow - and I can respect people who feel him being overused, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't use him. After all this is Batman early in his career, so why shouldn't he be having his first encounter with Joker, especially if it's done in a different way by having him meet Bruce before Batman, and in a supporting context rather than the main villain?
People usually say they're tired of a character if that character is used too often and nothing new or interesting is done with them in the process and rely on the same story beats and cliches.
Episode 4 has a chance to do something interesting but we'll see.

I don't think this'll happen but I toyed with the idea in my head of the joker being Thomas Wayne Jr.
Like for whatever reason Thomas commisioned his oldest son to Arkham Asylum and he just went batshit crazy in there. I like the idea because two of the biggest antagonists right now are Harvey and Oz, both were once close with Bruce, so I just like the idea of continuing the trend of the villains having a personal connection with Bruce. Imagine Batman's greatest rival being his own brother.
Again, I don't think it'll happen but it was just something cool to think about

Joker being added to the story really surprises me, but I definitely trust that telltale can do him well - so far I think they have done every character in this game well. A conversation with the Joker sounds like it could be both really fun and really unsettling. Didn't think of that till you mentioned it!

Well I'll be able to see the reaction of my family when I show them so that should be fun.
Could you imagine being the tailor who gets that order....
"Hello GCPD...I know how to catch TwoFace...listen all you have to do is come to my shop."
Fine, be salty about it on a walking dead video instead of ruining the fun for everyone else.
"Some of these people are crazy..." I love it! I'm so excited!
Jack Napier; the animated series reused this name as well.
What the.. This is forced!??!

No! It's not him. Not original enough, no "fresh take". Probably a decoy. Where's the real Joker, Telltale?

Yup. I'm getting really aggravated with all the hypocritical backlash against The Joker recently.
Maybe he was one of Thomas Wayne's subject?
