So what's the deal with Catwoman?

A common complaint about episode 4 I've noticed is the lack of Selina.
And I'm not saying it wouldn't have been a bit better if she stuck around for episodes 4 and 5, but I can't say in all honesty that episode 4 was worse for it.

I may be the only one here but... I don't get it.
She was fun in episode 2, but she didn't really do it for me in episode 3. The conversation in her apartment didn't seem... Genuine. She said stuff you could kinda assume about her already and got hit on by Bruce.

So I don't get the... I won't say outrage since everyone seems calm... I don't get the "I can't believe they did this" reaction that some people have.

Her ties to the overarching plot were cut in episode 3. And it honestly seemed in-character for her to leave.
Because no matter how much you got attached to her, you can admit she was a bastard. I think we all sorta assumed she was using Harvey for one reason or another instead of actually being romantically interested. Then cheated on him... Though I probably shouldn't throw stones.
Selina looks out for her best interest above everyone else's. She'd gladly throw Bruce under the bus if it saved herself... And that's exactly what she did.

I mean... Compare Selina to Sasha from TFTB or Kenny from TWD... And she starts to seem a bit raw.
Definitely not by average video game standards, but by Telltale standards.

Whoever you are, I can probably respect your opinion, but I just don't get it.
To me, there simply aren't enough interesting things about her to make fans buy episode 4 with the mindset of "Oh boy, can't wait to see what Selina is up to in episode 4 of Catwoman The Telltale Series."

This reaction seems to be more out of the fact that the popular BatCat ship seemingly isn't going to happen anytime soon and whenever someone's ship seems to be getting close to reality but gets swept away, people get angry and sour about it ignoring that it actually probably makes a lot of sense for Selina.

I'm one of the few that finds the BatCat romance to be forced and lacking in any genuine development that made sense so this decision didn't bother me but I can symphasize with people who were invested in it and found it disappointingly anticlimactic in Ep.4.

Personally, i don't think you can call a romance that's based on characters that have been romantic with each other in other mediums for decades forced. I don't ship and i'm not a fan of it in general but i do hold a grudge so when a character takes off on my character i get pretty angry and just told her to go. She'll most likely return for episode 5 but she'll get no thanks from me.

  • Pretty much what J-Master said, the BAtman/Catwoman shippers are upset that the romance didn't get advanced at all in this episode and it might look like Selina will be out of the picture for the finale.

  • As someone rooting for teh BatCat, I thought it was fairly significant from the start that she the only character besides Alfred and Lucius who know that Bruce is Batman. And that he can see the whole picture of her as well.

Some of us are also rooting for Selina herself. As other members here have pointed out, she's the antihero. She's whip smart, capable, and self-reliant, and would be a great counterpart to Batman...except that her work, and maybe her past, has put to bed her faith in concepts like loyalty and altruism. Yet with the way she interacts with Batman, her faith is stirring. There are glimpses of heroism-- but she uses 'debt' as a way to act out nobler ambitions without compromising the way she sees the world.

But her better intentions are still strangled by a lifetime of doing what was necessary for her to survive in a city like Gotham. She gets by, but she's not happy. She senses on some level that even though it's comfortable, the way she lives is beneath her talents. She's yearning for higher purpose, and she sees the example of that in Batman. I think it has a lot to do with why she's attracted to him.

But right now, she's afraid to take that step. Or she believes its foolish. Why choose to take on unnecessary risk? Her survival instincts are so ingrained at this point, that fleeing Gotham was probably more reflex than anything else. That's why I don't think it was altogether heartless the way she ditched Bruce. Besides, I think at this point he recognizes that this is who she is, and that this is her 'price of admission'.

And Bruce, for his part, has a pretty lonely existence too, when you think about it. I think he deeply values the companionship Selina offers. I also think also wants to see her live up to her potential someday. Or at least, that's how I'm playing him. :)

  • I'm a BatCat shipper and I am 100% satisfied.

It doesn't make sense for Selina to stay, given the situation. That's not how she is. And I absolutely do NOT want TellTale to butcher her personality for the sake of this ship. It makes complete sense that she would leave, and she is completely right - she could be killed any time and no one would care, she would just be part of Gotham's crime statistics. Her name wouldn't even show up in the news. Bruce's name at least gives him a chance on this, and I don't think it would be far for him to expect her to put herself at risk on such situation.

She might come back for episode 5, who knows. Selina comes and goes as she pleases.

Also I disagree that she cheated on Harvey. They were not together, they both made that clear, Harvey just had some hope that they would have something. She doesn't belong to him just because he liked her, that's an awful mindset that would have made me really mad at Harvey if I didn't know he isn't in his right mind.

  • Well shes probably the most diverse character in the game, and I think the main problem about episode 4 was alot of characters were just gone. Selina? Doesnt show up at all or shows up for only 1 min just to go "lmao bye." Penguin shows up as a drone, and then its a determinate fight scene. Vicki/Lady Arkham is never seen or heard. The episode was focused on Harvey completely, and all his scenes were great, but it sucks that they kicked out 3 characters to just focus on him.

Obviously Im sure Vicki will appear in episode 5 and be a big deal, however who knows whats going to happen to Penguin if you arrested him. Will he appear at all? I doubt Harvey will if you stopped him so I also doubt Penguin will, until the very end when we may visit them in jail/Arkham. Selina will probably appear again, I highly doubt they would have her last scene be so weak.

  • My problem is it voids out one of our major decisions from Episode 3, you should leave or you can stay with me at the Manor. If she leaves anyway its like my decision no longer matters.

  • But you get a pretty sick 1 min talk with Selina instead of a 1 min text message convo.

  • 1 minute convo Instead of the opportunity to bond and connect more yay lol!

  • I didn't mind the lack of Selina in Episode 4. I chose to confront/visit Harvey/Two-Face as Bruce Wayne on the rooftop instead of Batman. After that, I was enjoying and getting into the escalating conflict between Bruce and Harvey/Two-Face. I was enjoying it so much that I decided to hold off on locking up Harvey/Two-Face at the end of the episode. I went to Wayne Enterprises to save the tech/gadgets. My choices were making Harvey/Two-Face more of the main villain and the better villain to go up against n Episode 5. Penguin/Oswald was turning more into a side/secondary villain. And I think losing Wayne Manor and everything in it and possibly Alfred (I'm sure he'll be okay since Bruce/Batman tells him to go to the batcave and hide there plus protect the entrance to the cave so Harvey/Two-Face doesn't find it and learn that Bruce is Batman if you choose the option to save the tech/gadgets) will make the final fight between Bruce/Batman and Harvey/Two-Face even better, maybe bump up the emotional level too if Alfred dies. So the rest of Episode 4 was kind of building up on what's to come in Episode 5. Not sure how Selina would fit into that. Well, she could've saved Bruce Wayne from the two officers Harvey/Two-Face assigned to kill Bruce Wayne after the conversation between Bruce and Harvey on the rooftop if you choose to visit/confront Harvey on the rooftop as Bruce. Instead, Gordon saves Bruce from the officers, which I thought was pretty sweet. But I'm sure that Selina will return in Episode 5. She'll probably pop up like how Selina/Catwoman did in The Dark Knight Rises. I think The Dark Knight Rises is probably the reason everyone is sure she'll return. But maybe saving her in Episode 2 is what will be one of the reasons she returns to help Bruce/Batman in Episode 5.

Well Sasha and Kenny are two characters I love.....Selina too. I don't really see the problem. xD If we're being honest, Selina doesn't strike me as someone who would just let Bruce die. Sure she used Harvey, but Bruce is vastly different from Harvey, and didn't she state herself her and Harvey weren't serious? Why would she go to all the trouble of helping Bruce throughout the series, including saving his life in 103, and then purposely let him die? Yeah her taking off at the start of 104, but I've got a feeling she's got a master plan behind it all.

  • Oh it's fine. Judging by how the Joker was introduced and immediately taken back again, I'd say we're getting a Season 2 of Batman, so it could still happen there even if she doesn't come back for Episode 5.
