Yeah, a lot of Americans feel obliged to hate anyone who didn't play nice and support US foreign policy. I can fault the guy for a lot of things, but giving Washington a bloody nose isn't one of them.

  • Max we get it, you're anti-capitolist. Subtly calling people dumb through this thread while at the same time having every post contain some form of 'He did some bad things'? Because he's more in line with your political beliefs? Wtf you doing man? Trolling isn't going to make Castro have been a decent human being.

  • I don't think so, at least not where I'm from (Australia). It's pretty common for Americans to be called 'Yanks' over here.

    Isn't Yankee racist slur?

  • "Was racist" and "oppressed women" are too vague to stand as arguments. As I am unfamiliar with this topic, could you—and others who would like to, too—explain how he was racist and oppressed women?

  • No, I thought you were referring to our argument in another thread. Stop being a prick.

  • As someone who is a Cuban and their family fled Cuba due to Fidel, he can burn in hell. And then some.

Good riddance. I know Cuban immigrants, some I grew up with that hope he burns in Hell.

  • Excuse me, could you give me the name of a couple valid, legit history books wrote with information collected from differet sources, wirten by qualified and well-educated historians that could possibly support your arguments?

  • OH, you, you're here. I'd like to get into a political argument with you so bad, but it's late here and I'm tired. Consider me as an enemy from now!

  • could you—and others who would like to, too—explain how he was racist

As I recall, he was a total racist in his youth (his writings established this) and this was worsened by his failed revolutionary attempts in Africa, namely the Congo. However these stances softened with age - probably because it became politically expedient, or perhaps not.

He did convert to Marxism and wound up anti-imperialist. His U.N speech in the 60's was actually pretty anti-racist, too, and his policies in Cuba granted full rights to Afro-Cubans, I'm pretty sure.

So yes, he was a racist. Whether he truly had a change of heart, however, there is evidence to that effect; but whether you truly buy it or not is slightly interpretative.

    and oppressed women?

At the very least he was a total traditionalist (not rare for the era) - largely believing it was a woman's duty to cook, and clean, etc, and so forth, beyond that I'm not aware of any true sexism he exhibited, but I could be misremembering.

He was a homophobe, though (and more importantly a mass murderer), that much is firmly established... and then he died a martyr, living on as a hero to some and a villain to others. Honestly, I'm not really that knowledgable about Che - I just felt like posting something here. :P Hopefully it was a bit helpful.

Oh shut up. That guy was a mass murdering dictator who was ready to end the goddamn world. He deserved far worse.

  • Seems to me that you don't even know the proper definition of irrational.

    That's pretty irrational.

Eh, I'm kinda in the middle with regards to his death. I can garner some levels of respect for the man by standing up to the United States and showing support for Irish republicanism, yet, at the same time, while I do lean more on the left wing spectrum of politics, a left dictator is still a dictator.

  • His brother has been running things for a while now, actually.

I just realized something. Tropico series is probably inspired from Cuba and its famous leader Fidel Castro. Now I wonder who will replace him while actually managing to stay in power more than a few days.

  • If you are looking for a majority that will miss him, then you are mistaken. Most dislike him for a reason, even elderly Cuban immigrants hate him. Like I said in the Trump debate thread, stop researching on the Internet. Talk to real people that grew up in the area, read real books for research. Castro is identical to Hitler were he was a hero at first cause he was very intelligent. He was a genius with Saul Alynski type of leadership. Control the education to control the people. The real side of them came to eventually and hurt their people in favor of wealth. Castro told his supporters to beat up anti Castro people and many did. That's similar to Hillary supporters, anyway Castro hated White people and persecuted White Cubans. Hundreds of years ago there were mostly White Cubans. Castro hated them and caused many to hate them as they were known as pure Cubans. A friend of mine is White, green eyes, red hair, is Cuban with an accent as an example. Cuba was once a wonderful place for knowledge and education. In the 1800s it was called New Alexandria. Castro and his brother Raul changed all of that. Even as fictional as Scarface was you could see how bad Fidel was, just listen to what Tony says. I've heard many immigrants say the same things. Under Fidel you are treated like a dog and freedom is a fairy tale, etc. Che hated Black people and ordered mobs to beat up Haitians, that's why bozo Obama looked dumb with a Che shirt in Cuba meeting evil leaders.

    Oh boy.

Most of what you bring up (with the exception of him being identical to Hitler, which is a gross overstatement if ever I have heard one) is mostly valid, excluding the emotive language.

As has been established, he was a tyrant. However, to look at only his negatives is quite honestly rather biased.

Do not get me wrong. I am NOT a fan of Castro. The man was a tyrant and ran detrimental policies. But to simply ignore what he did do right, and to de-humanise him as only being evil (or anyone else for that matter) is a rather narrow way to look at things.

Let me re-iterate: I hate Castro too, but to look ONLY at his bad in ignorance of all else is simply irrational.

P.S. One thing, though. I do not remember there being a genocide against white Cubans in any of my sources. Could you provide a source?

  • It was about time, TBH. Sorry to the Castros....I guess?

He never did commit genocide on Whites, he had them beat up and persecuted. He hated White Cubans out of jealousy. To say that he did any good I cannot. He was pure evil that did more harm than good. It's not being ignorant at all.

    Yay, my first double post!

I see. Still, provide a source of credible information for this persecution. I cannot believe you purely on your word alone, and I cannot find any credible sources (or any source) that proves it right. In fact I have found a few credible sources that say the contrary.

He was pure evil that did more harm than good. It's not being ignorant at all

Provide me with a logical argument that proves that wrong, because paraphrasing your previous point does nothing.
