Really? You want a women's-only gym hour just because you're intimidated by the football team working out there? Am I the only one that thinks that's a bit of stretch?
That comparison in the first article...God. Oh no how terrible, are there wittle bitty feelings hurt that there are these big, strong men working out. News flash, NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU DO AT THE GYM. No one is watching you do your workout, or thinking how they're stronger or better than you, so stop being self-conscious, grow up, and fucking deal with it. And why is the writer only pointing out women, wouldn't there also be small, weak guys who "suffer" from the same intimidation. God, if this were the other way around, and it was the men asking for a separate hour, these people would be calling this sexist and discriminatory against women, but when it's the women asking for it, it's completely fine, the double standard and hypocrisy is mind boggling. Feminists demand equality, and yet look for special treatment, this is why their message alienates rather than welcomes so many people.
And football players, as well as other athletes, have their own separate gym and workout facility, very rarely will they ever use the common, regular student facility.

They appear to only have one fitness centre for the whole College. That's fairly common in Canada.

Alright, did not know that, but the bulk of my argument stands, no one gives a shit what you're doing during a workout or if you're scrawny, buff, big, small, medium, whatever. There's no need to feel intimidated, so get over it.

Most campus facilities have administration to ensure only students are using them. So, pretty easily. "I'm sorry, we're currently in Women's hour, you can't enter" and yeah, men currently there would be expected to leave or security would probably get involved.
(I'm purposely not talking a side here. I don't know what the culture is at that college)
Everyone goes to the Gym for the same reasons, no one should be ashamed, in fact I personally praise everyone who's striving to be healthier and stronger! I can understand the fear of judgments but I feel like "buff guys making fun of you while you work out" is a huge misconception fabricated out of fear and assumption, prejudging others before you even know them is just as bad as any other form of judgment in my books and if there are those who make fun of someone trying to better themselves, then they're assholes. At the end of the day, it's your call to go to the Gym, it's not the only way to exercise and it's unfair for others if you get special treatment because of your judgments.
This reminds me of a controversy about gym named Planet Fitness that sets the 'Lunk' alarm off if anyone is heard grunting too loud for lifting heavy weights, and their portrayal of athletes as stereotypical meat-heads in their TV adverts that bullies smaller and more timid customers.
Some people just don't seem to realize that the customers in real gyms are just normal people who only wants to exercise in a gym in peace, and they don't generally go out of their way to harass and bully other customers for no good reason.
The real issue here is how some people's insecurities and paranoia ends up making a huge drama out of a situation that's not even all that serious to begin with.
Apparently the world thinks its only fair that the ones that wern't discriminated now get to be discriminated because that definatley solves.... something?
The hypocrisy of these feminists is baffling. They want to be treated equal, yet want the men using the gym that they pay for with their tuition to be kicked out so they can have their special hour? They can go fuck themselves. I guarantee if there was a petition for a men's only hour, then these feminists would be protesting nonstop about sexism. It is fucking ridiculous and extremely hypocritical.
Women's-Only Hour? Special treatment does not equal equality. And I have two responses to anyone who says 'male privilege':
You cannot assume that someone is automatically privileged based on race, gender, or sexual orientation. There are plenty of straight white guys who are homeless out there.
You don't end 'male privilege' by giving women privileges of their own.
I could accept this idea if there was also a men's-only hour as well. Even though it probably wouldn't get utilized, male and female students would still be equal. Or you could build a second gym for women, or have a women's only section (although segregation is something I'd rather see avoided). I still do not think it's productive in any way to separate men and women. Better for gender relations if you encourage men and women to co-exist.
Secondly, why is there a push for this without looking into the issue more? If a large group of women are uncomfortable using the same gym, then shouldn't people be asking what behavior from the men is causing this? It could be that a lot of the men using the gym aren't aware that their behavior is making women uncomfortable, or some of the women are just very self-conscious, such as me (I keep thinking that people are watching what I'm doing all the time, even though they're not). People are jumping to conclusions about this issue.

I have no problem with it as long as there can be a mens only gym hour.
Also many gyms have womens only section (for religious or personal reasons) so why not just add that instead of a womens only hour.

You are not.

So how are they going to enforce this rule? Just wander around the gym telling the guys to leave? Seems kinda awkward.

That's petty.

I like how one of the articles I just clicked on had a gender identity quiz for me to do.
That's hilarious. I just got back from the gym. Gym girls are some of the toughest women out there, buck up brownies.
Remember everyone, It's okay to be sexist towards men, and racist towards white people.

So if a guy can only go to the gym in that hour, because of that "Man ban", he can't?
Love the misandry.
someones tired of getting hit on
Bullshit
This is shocking indeed...
My initial (and current) thoughts exactly. It feels like a lot of these gender activists are just entitled.
