My Batman knowledge was limited to knowing that Bruce Wayne, a rich and iconic Gothamite, masqueraded as Batman to deal out justice, dedicated to ending the crime that cost his philanthropist parents their lives. I also was aware of the characters of Alfred, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Joker, albeit limitedly. I had never heard of Harvey Dent, strangely enough.
This caused some confusion to surface when viewing alternate episode one playthroughs back in the day. For example, one player chose the campaign slogan, "A New Face For Gotham", which caused people to chime in by stating "New Face...HA HA" or "I see what you did there". I was a wee bit confused, but I didn't think too much of it.
I caught on soon after Children of Arkham released. At first though, I assumed that Harvey's madness was caused only by the mutilation he determinantly endured at the debate debacle, and was not due to an underlying mental disorder. A few days on these message boards showed me the light.
I really appreciate how newbie friendly Telltale made this game. They focused on introducing characters and relationships, instead of using pre-existing knowledge as a crutch. All I missed out on were a few jokes and teasers, so I'd say it wasn't bad overall. With something that holds a cult-like status like Batman, it would be tempting.

I wasn't hugely into Batman, like at all, before any of this. I remember Tommy Lee Jones' take on Two-Face but I don't know if I knew his real name was Harvey Dent or not. It took me at least a year to get around to watching Dark Knight because I was so annoyed by everyone's obsession with it and I don't think Harvey going villainous surprised me (though that movie, of course, doesn't do anything with multiple personalities though the novelization apparently includes him being abused by his father and the GCPD being assholes to him constantly because he used to be IA and his standards were hard for even Gordon to live up to) but I'm not sure where exactly I got that information.
But damn. I was ready for it, going in, because I didn't know if they'd do it this season or in the future but I knew it was coming and it was still absolutely devastating for me.
