Why was it part 1 and part 2 for Ties that bind

I completed both episodes in just about an hour each so it couldve just been made into one whole episode and wouldve left them with more to do and a 2 hour episode wouldnt of been that bad either.

  • You know, I-- I honestly have no idea.

  • Indeed. Also interesting is the fact that it was supposed to be one episode to begin with. Then was the series only going to be 4 episodes long? Season 1 had episodes that exceeded two hours with no complaint. Really gets the head scratching going.

  • I would be extremely happy if the episodes were as long as season 1, I hope the other 3 episodes in season 3 will be longer

  • Even with some of their more questionable decisions, I can at least see what Telltale is trying to do, or what they're trying to aim for. But with this whole "splitting Ties That Bind into two episodes" thing, I honestly can't figure out what their end-goal here is. I really can't.

So would I. I really like the story and characters of season 3 so far, it's just a shame about some missteps they've decided on so far. I'm hoping, pretty naively, that the response they've received so far encourages them to make some pretty important changes. They say they listen to fan feedback as they go, so hopefully that's the case. I still have faith this can be one of their best seasons if they nail the next 3 episodes

edit: ignore how many times I said so far

  • Because it was "TOO" big. It wasn't even that big, it only takes 2 hours if you combine them.

  • Because apparently the story was too big and they "can't be too long since we want the players to finish it in one sitting."

At this point I am going to be able to play the whole season 3 in one sitting due to how unbelievably short it's been so far.

  • The bigger the better Ive played through games that have taken over 9 hours in one sitting

  • Same, I like having a new story and I love having Javier, Yes hopefully they will listen to feedback and i agree it could be the best season if they improve.

  • I have a feeling that the same people who decided to have Ties that Bind split into two parts must have not played, or outright loathed the length of the very first episode of Season 1.

That doesn't fill me with much hope that we'll have longer episodes in the future.

  • Oh, tell me about it. I finished The Last of Us in two days. The game is about 29 hours long. Played the moment I woke to the moment I slept.

I'm not saying TWD needs to be 29 hours long, but if I could almost easily replay S2 in one sitting, then I don't want to imagine how fast I'm going to fly through season 3. I'm really not looking forward to it.

  • The season was most likely only 4 episodes so they decided to split the first one in half.

  • In honesty though, I wont really care that they split 1 episode that was 2 hours to 2 one hour long episodes as long as the rest of the episodes are longer than an hour.

  • TellTalegames is obviously caring for the all important hemorroid suffering market, where sitting down for awhile is agony. Just read this glowing testimonial...

Sitting and playing a season of TWD was always a dream of mine, but the first two seasons had episodes that were just too long. The pain and burning itch was hell on Earth. But now, thanks to TellTalegames, I can enjoy a painless adventure. Thank You Kevin Bruner!

I don't believe that it was split into two episodes, despite Telltale stating so. I think they were originally supposed to be separate episodes with different titles, but they ended up getting called parts 1 and 2 because they were released together on the same day. Either way, I want the rest of the episodes to be longer as part 2 was way too short. Part 1 was roughly an hour and 30 minutes, as I explored everything.

  • 29 hours long.

    29?

Shit man, my first playthrough was only 15 hours. And I'm the type of guy that tries to look around and explore everything.

  • Because it means more money for Telltale if they make a 5 episode season rather than a 4 episode season. In all honesty, it probably would have worked better had these two episodes been combined into one and Telltale made it a 4 episode season. Sure a lot of people would have been angry at that, but I think it would have worked out better for them in the long term, rather than make it a 5 episode season, which works for them in the short term.

  • Same, I remember playing Yakuza 5 all day, both days of my weekend. Technically in one sitting, except for breaks such as getting food from the fridge.

The bigger the better Ive played through games that have taken over 9 hours in one sitting

  • Man, I remember when Mass Effect 2 came out. I wanted to at least get some time in that night, got in from work at around 2 am and sat down to play for an hour or two. I ended up playing until around 10am, when I had to stop myself so I could shower before work lol. One sitting really depends on the gamer, but I think story driven games are the type that really inspire binge sessions, whereas the games that are designed for shorter periods of play are generally from a much different genre and attract a different type of gamer looking for a specific experience.

  • Because there were only 4 episodes this year and they needed to make it 5 some how.

  • I inspected every inch of that game.

  • I guess you out-inspected me, then

I inspected every inch of that game.

  • You know, if this season was actually meant to be 4 episodes, each about 2 hours long, that wouldn't have been that bad, especially if you do the math.

    2 x 4 = 8 hours

In S2, you have 5 episodes, each about 1.5 hours long

    5 x 1.5 = 7.5 hours

If the rest of S3's episodes are 2 hours long, it would actually be longer than S2 was.

  • There really isn't a reasonable reason for why they decided to do it this way other than possibly making up for saying it was coming out in November than postponed it and also so they have to have less time dedicated to making TWD content next year.

  • Oh, I just love that response right there

I inspected every inch of that game.

  • I think that the majority of telltale's decisions right now are just for money and not for the actual quality of the game

  • I don't mind episodes being short just as long as you have enough to do and the story is compelling. The fact that you can't even explore the area and look at stuff is disappointing.

IDK...maybe I'm just expecting a lot more out of TTG.

  • Omg

  • The exploration part is what would make an episode long, otherwise, if they cut out the action, the episode may be to boring

  • A man can dream...

Even if that dream has about a .00001% chance of happening

Too bad they won't be 2 hours long.

  • I remember i put in like 2 hours minimum to finish one episode in past games. Really pissed that that's how long it took me to finish two episodes in Season 3. This season shoulda been like $15 tbh

  • I'd like to hope it was because someone at Telltale realised that Episode One was way too short if that's all they released, so had Episode One and Two released at the same time. Although that may not be the case. To be honest I'd like to see 3 hours+ as a minimum completion time for these episodes.

  • You have numerous hubs that you can't even explore. Hell, why the hell can't you explore Prescott? It seemed ripe to be explored and to get to know the people.

  • every episode of season 1 was 2 or even 3 hours. but now it's 1 hour. i don't like this. you want make 1 hour? fine, at least make more episode
