Does anyone else think maybe ANF really ISN'T Season 3?

Before everyone calls me crazy just hear me out

I really thought about the naming, A "New Frontier", maybe this game is just setting the forefront for something bigger, perhaps the real S3? I personally think it's asinine to view ANF as a direct sequel I mean it's just clearly not, idk maybe I'm just wishfully thinking

Even telltale themselves don't know what the f*ck is going on so anything is possible At this point

    I think it's a smart move.

They're trying something new out so I feel like the "New Frontier" title allows them to get away with making a "real" season 3 if things don't work out as they expected.

For now it technically probably is but removing that from the name gives them the chance to go back on it if they really want to.

  • Are you crazy?

  • EXACTLY!!

  • Well they have pretty much made it clear this is not S3 as Job J Stauffer corrected several times on twitter. At this point Telltale themselves has no clue what direction they want this product to go so who knows what any original or current plans could be for future episodes. But this whole ANF installment has made it quite clear telltale should end TWD after this.

That was always my thought on that. Calling it Season 3 with a completely new character at the forefront was just asking for trouble, while callling it A New Frontier allows them to get away with it easier. They can thus tell whatever story they want now without having to worry as much about cohering to the status quo expected by what came before.

The only snag is the fact that they had to write out Kenny, Jane, and Edith in order establish Clementine's role in the story without worrying about having to answer "Where's Kennny? Where's Jane? What happened with Welllington?".

  • I dont think they should end the walking The Walking Dead, they should just do a proper sequel instead of doing a half sequel, half new game type deal

  • I gave up hoping that after the VGAs lol. They clearly wanted to tell a new story without losing a lot of fans, so they worked Clementine in to keep everyone on board while using characters clearly meant to have been on the road for a few weeks as the focus. Crazy part is, they could have just done ANF with Clementine as the lead and it would have still been like a new game, they've successfully written any need to have played the previous games within one episode. The only thing left is AJ, and his mothers name will probably never even be mentioned, we'd just know she'd been traveling with him and (insert ending here). Essentially, the game will have started with a flashback and then with her near where the comics are and we'll know she was traveling. The same way it starts with Javier lol

  • That would be fine but its apparent that they are not interested in a sequel and even with ANF telltale has no direction or any idea what to do with the current product so to me if telltale is lost for what to do with this then i don't see how they could make a decent sequel.

That's like saying "Legend of Korra" isn't like the continuation of "The Avatar the last Airbender" even though it has the same plot elements, mentions of old characters, the same setting etc.

How can this not be Season 3? Why is Clementine even in it then...

  • Because they like money and she's the poster child for Telltales walking dead. People are outraged she's not the main character just imagine the outrage if she's not in it at all.

If it helps clear up this issue, the icon for the iOS version is listed as TWD S3. It can only stand for This Wasn't Directly Season 3.

  • Despite how Telltale feels, we should all stop calling it season 3 because that is a huge disrespect to the previous seasons.

  • A New Frontier is making this game look like a reboot.

  • Do you know what I think happened? I think New Frontier was suppose to be Javier's story only and not having Clementine or any of the previous character involved, but they made some last minute changes and still kept the name to New Frontier and not S03 like previous games... I feel like it's a rushed product and that's where all the problems come from.

  • That's essentially what it was anyway.

Nah, it definitely at least started out with the codename Season 3, but the direction(s) they were going in was always so drastically departed/exaggerated from what came before that it made sense to eventually give it a name that fit that.

Although it has been claimed that the Michonne DLC(which itself coincided with the fact that Season 2 has slots for three DLC episodes) was originally supposed to be something of a origin story/prequel for Javier, so it's slightly possible.

  • ANF is just a bridge between S2 and S4, with not much substance. Clementine didn’t go through much other than learning AJ is alive, so why should we look at this season like it was the next big story in TWD? It wasn’t. By the end of this game I feel very little. This is just like Michonne. Just that ANF has 2 more episodes.

  • Its called season 3 in the files. Theory debunked.

  • It should have been a DLC of clementines story!

  • That's not on a public way so no
