Games of our childhood/younger days

For the sake of some
bittersweet nostalgia, did anyone here grow up playing older generation games that were found on Xbox, PS1, PS2 etc and if so what were they?

Some examples of mine include:
The Hobbit
Family Guy
Voodoo Vince
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban
Spiderman 2

I've always been an Xbox gamer but everyone's welcome here. Feel free to share your greatest memories, anything below 2007 I guess is where we go from.

  • Awesome! I had vice city when I was 10 but couldn't get past the RC helicopter part so would always just free roam

  • Ratchet trilogy, Jak trilogy, Sly trilogy, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Kingdom Hearts, Ocarina of Time - Twilight Princess, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Party 1-4.

  • When I was younger I was playing all my games on GameCube.

    Need for speed most wanted
    Need for speed underground 2
    Tony Hawks underground
    Super smash bros melee
    Nba 2k2
    Tony Hawks pro skater 4
I can't remember the other ones I had but these were the ones I played a ton of.

  • My friends and I would play GTA Vice city and San Andreas almost obsessively when we were kids (probably shouldn't have though lol). I was really into DBZ games like Budokai and Tenkaichi too. Psychonauts was pretty awesome as well, and I actually replayed it on PS4 recently.

    • Bully
    • GTA San Andreas
    • Ultimate Spider-Man
    • A Snoopy game
    • A Transformers game
  • The LEGO Star Wars games, as well as Kingdom Hearts.

  • Although I'm born in the second half of the 90's, I played Super Mario Bros., Ice Climber, Ghost n Goblins and some other ones on my parents NES that they bought for themselves before I was born. That, and some games on PC, like Lego Racers 1 and 2, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground 2, and later stuff like Wii Sports and some Guitar Hero games.

    Pokemon
    Animal Crossing
    Fighting Force

  • I recall playing Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Batman(nes) a lot when I was younger. When I hit high school, GTA III was all the rage and I saved up for a PS2 to get Vice City. Vice City is probably the game I've logged the most minutes in without beating.

  • When I was in junior high and my cousin died(cancer), her family(approx. 10 yrs older) gave me her old Game Boy brick and I played that and her games for a few years as well. It didn't correlate how special that was for me at the time, but looking back, I hope the joy I got from it would have made her happy. Wario Land was fun.

I loved every single one of those. Literally all of them would give me a nostalgia trip. Some of them have. Like when they released Red Baron 3D and Z on Steam for example. HD Edition of Age of Empires made me giddy as well. Bought a Nintendo 3DS just for the Nintendo Classic Ports. Some story with the PSP, bought it mostly to play PS1 games on the go.

    Gunsmoke (NES)
    Duck Hunt (NES)
    Ice Hockey (NES)
    Paper Boy (NES)
    Double Dragon (NES)
    Super Mario Bros 1-3 (NES)
    The Legend of Zelda (NES)

    Super Mario World (SNES)
    Super Mario RPG (SNES)
    Yoshi's Island (SNES)
The Legend of Zelda Link to the Past (SNES)
    Secret of Mana (SNES)
    Harvest Moon (SNES)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (SNES)
    Sim City (SNES)

Sonic the Hedge Hog Series (SEGA, SEGA G etc)
Road Rash (SEGA, SEGA G, SEGA 32bit)

    Super Mari 64 (N64)
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
Body Harvest (N64) PS made by the same people who made Grand Theft Auto, gem of a game. One mission on San Andreas directly referenced this game as well.
    Blast Corps (N64)
Harvest Moon 64 (N64) also known as Harvest Moon 2
    Mario Party 1 & 2 (N64)
    Super Smash Bros (N64)

    Resident Evil 1 & 2 (PS1/N64)
Army Men World War Series (PS1)
    Air Combat (PS1)
Ace Combat 2 & 3 (PS1) they renamed Air Combat to Ace Combat
Medal of Honor (PS1) oddly never played Underground until I got a PSP
Grand Theft Auto & 2 (PS1) yes I used to play the originals

Harvest Moon Back to Nature (PS1)

    Sim City 2000 (PC)
    Red Baron (PC)
    Red Baron II/3D (PC)
    Age of Empires II (PC)
Bitmap Brother's Z (PC) Mostly just known as " Z " yes just the letter, pronounced ZED of course. Available on Steam shockingly.

Hmm... If I couldn't remember it, odds are it never touched my heart enough to remember it from my youth.

Edit: I was so focused on remembering games, I forgot two obvious ones. lol

PS I have such a large library. My half brother was a huge gaming nut. So from almost the day I was born, I was exposed to video games. Secondly, most people I knew played video games, some of the NES/SNES and N64 titles I never owned, just played a lot with friends.

  • I'm only 14 so it's nothing too exciting. I used to have a Gameboy and I played The Brother Bear and The Shark Tale games there. Then I had a PSP and I was obsessed with Mortal Kombat.
When I started exploring Internet, my most favorite thing to do was playing flash games on different websites, it was really cool.

  • On the PlayStation 2 I played the heck out of crash bandicoot and lego Star Wars. Crash bandicoot was what got me into gaming!

These are a selection of the games that I played growing up [a few games from the same series as well but you get the idea] You can practically track my journey from the childish innocent games, into the dark hardcore shit as I get older XD

  • Although I played games before these two, everytime I hear childhood games I can't help but think of Breath of Fire 3 and Megaman Legends. Spent a lot of time playing them over and over again. The first Mortal Kombat come to minds as well.

  • Mine were Skylander Giants and The Dog Island.
Dog Island was depressing and Skylanders I thought was just fansciatning

  • Conker's bad fur day (N64)

    Genji: dawn of the samurai

    Indigo Prophecy

    Tekken 4

    That's all I can remember, wasn't a hugh gamer when I was a teenager.

  • Bearing in mind that I only play Sony games, here are my top/favourite/childhood games:

Vice City Stories, Tom and Jerry: War of the Whiskers, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie, Deer Hunter 2004, Sub Rebellion, Looney Tunes: Spac

  • I'm a little embarrassed to say I've never played any of the ones from your PSX and PS2 list. I have heard good things about a lot of them though, I'm sure they were fantastic.

Life is Strange is amazing though, hope you enjoy the ride whenever you get back to it.

Bearing in mind that I only play Sony games, here are my top/favourite/childhood games: PSX * Ace Combat 2 * Broken Sword series *

  • There's a few that I really liked.

    • Blinx the Time Sweeper.
    • Starfox Adventures.
    • Spyro: A Heroes Tail.
    • Rayman.
  • Assasin's creed 1 and 2 and the walking dead s1

  • Aw man, I got a lot of hours out of Halo CE with my best friend, can't believe I forgot to add it to my list of favorites. Did you play the remastered version in 2011, or the Master Chief collection?

The first COD game I ever played was Big Red One. I never really got that far through it but enjoyed what little I had played.

I never played Battlefield 2 but have been playing lots of Battlefield 1 lately haha!

I preferred Spider-Man 2 because of the free roaming (and maybe since I played that one first) but the first game was still super cool! I remember playing the Craven mission over and over just really liking it for some reason. The race against time mission is a bitch though. Back when movie-based video games were good.

  • Ah yes! That's a goodie. I reached the Halloween stage but then didn't finish. I either got stuck or just didn't get around to it.

  • Did you play Batman Begins?

I roamed around on Vice City a lot too, could never beat the RC helicopter mission.

I'm really sorry to hear about your cousin though, I'm sure she would have been very happy to know it was being well used.

  • The Spider-Man games were really fun, movie games were good back then. I was once tempted to get The Amazing Spider-Man game just to relive a refined similar joy like I had with Spider-Man 2, but apparently those games aren't very good...

  • Halo 1-3 will always have a special place in my heart. Halo 4 was alright and I still have yet to play the 5th.

Gears of War is really good, though I played them this order: 2, half of 1, 3, then the rest of 1 a year later. Weird I know. I haven't played 4 and not in a hurry (mainly because I've got other games to get through and the price) but am really keen to one day.

  • Assassin's Creed 2 will always be my favorite of the series I reckon, just because of the story, characters and nice settings. Those games also have a really good soundtrack. The 'Ezio's family' of 2 and main theme of 3 for some reason really resonate with me.

Brace yourself for S2 and 3!

Assasin's creed 1 and 2 and the walking dead s1

  • When you've been at it since the 1980s ya. lol I've played a lot more than these, but these are the memorable ones. I decided to stop with the PS1/N64 generation, being in the later years of that I was officially a teenager, not a child anymore. lol
