According to IGN's credible source half life 3 won't happen. Do you guys think this is true?

  • I truly lost all hope for it ever happening once the lead writer for the series left Valve last year.

Considering it seems that Valve has flat out abandoned development in the past decade, it's totally true but Gabe won't admit it because he doesn't want even more people to be pissed off at him.

I gave up on it a while back, but I'm still gonna use the meme, its just too imbeded in my psyche now.

  • I gave up on it a couple months ago. I wouldn't even care if it did come out anymore tbh

It's a running joke that Valve never makes a part 3 of any of their games, though because of how popular the Left 4 Dead series has been, Valve has boasted that there will in fact be a Left 4 Dead 3. I look forward to that as I love this series. My gamertag logo is a custom made L4D logo. I don't like their other games though. I played Half Life 2 and episodes 1 and 2 on Orange Box and I hated it. The ending in episode 2 was so anti climatic. There wasn't a moment were I enjoyed the series yet I kept playing awaiting epic moments. It's not my cup of tea I guess.

  • I gave up years ago, but I'd still buy it in a heartbeat.
Portal 3 would be fantastic as well.

  • I'm truly sorry for you all. I never played Half Life in my life and I wish I could have known. But I did play Portal games. And CS:GO is so overrated.

  • Left 4 dead 2:episode 2

I would be upset if they never made another game considering the cliffhanger at the end of episode 2, if Valve don't want to make another game i don't know why they can't licence out the franchise to another company who could make a good sequel.

  • Never liked Counterstrike Go myself or Team Fortress 2 either. I liked Portal 1 and only played a little of Portal 2 before I got sick of it and then sold it lol.

It's funny that I love Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 though. I got 1500 in the first game Christmas of 2012 and I still go back constantly for more. I should get the last of the multiplayer Vs achievements in Left 4 Dead 2 this week and then I'll have 1500 in it also. The creator of the idea and engine for Left 4 Dead is an absolute genius.

  • What if they make a new IP that takes place in the Half Life/Portal universe?

  • I very much agree with the second part. Arkane Studios was developing Half-Life 2: Episode Four back in 2006 and they seemed to have a good concept for the HL game in mind. Not to mention that Gearbox Software is responsible for all expansions packs for the original Half-Life, and all of them were great (especially Opposing Force)

Seeing as another classic franchises such as Wolfenstein are being successfully rebooted and led by a new developers, I could see a new dev taking care of Half-Life if Valve agreed to sell the license. Heck, they could possibly even hire Marc Laidlaw himself to continue the storyline.

I doubt it's gonna happen tho. Valve only cares about selling virtual glove skins these days.

PS. I gotta also say that as someone who has been a part of Half-Life modding community running my own project, Valve could even try to involve community in their work as a lot of modders are actually working on nearly professional level. A lot of people got into the game making business from creating simple mods, and there is a lot of hidden talent out there that Valve might somehow put to good use.
