What food do you love/hate?
I'm writing this as I'm eating sesame-cocoa cream sandwich. It's supposed to be a Greek thing (at least I found it in the Greek food section).
What are your favorite snacks or food in general? Is your taste based on the preferences in your country, or is it just random food you enjoy?
Personally, I love marzipan and hate strawberries. I know, absolutely barbaric.

Pecan Sandies are the greatest cookie ever made. I could eat nothing but them forever or until I die of Scurvy.
I hate Pickles, I dont just hate them I have a mild phobia concerning those rotten cucumbers.
my Nonna makes amazing homemade lasagna.
and i hate cottage cheese. ugh
My ancestors are from Italy so isn't a coincidence that i like much types of pasta, pizzas and whatever that have tomato sausage.
But in Argentina most of us love the cow meat more for the tradition than for the food itself, and other traditionals foods too
Lemme just say I'm most likely one of the pickiest people you'll ever meet. I am, for lack of better wording, basically "OCD" about food. I have been ever since I was younger (I'm 15). I used to flip if my food touched, and I still do (mentally) sometimes.
The only fruits I like are apples (honeycrisp, must be red and green - not one or the other), bananas (must be speckled with brown, absolutely no green at all), and red grapes. The only veggies I like are spinach and kale (and they have to be completely raw). Everything else I've ever had has a texture, taste, or smell that puts me off.
All this to say, my favorite foods are grilled chicken, dark chocolate, honeycrisp apples, spinach, and oatmeal.
Least favorites: string cheese (there's a story behind that), broccoli, 99% of candy, beans, and I could literally go on for an entire eternity.
i'm afraid to ask, but tsk, my pesky curiosity. care to share this story?
Okay, let me warn you, this is kind of gross.
Okay, so I love my parents to death, but they were young when they had me (early 20's) and I'm the oldest, so they had NO experience in caring for children before I was born (mom is the youngest, and my dad's age gap with his younger brother is really big).
Because of this, I grew up eating every bit of my "safe" foods that I could find. By the time I was 5, I was not only pretty overweight, but I could put away a lot of food. I also have this weird thing where it can take me up to 2 hours after a meal for the "full" to kick in.
So I was about 5 1/2 and my mom always bought string cheese. Always. She bought, like, 3 bags of it once for some reason, and I loved it. For some reason, my mom let me have multiple cheese sticks. Multiple.
I ate over half the bag - probably closer to 3/4 of it. My mom didn't stop me. She didn't even pay attention to it. It was late at night at the time, and I still slept in my parents' bed at the time (separation anxiety + Air Force brat + other problems). We went to bed, and my stomach really hurt.
I woke several hours later and immediately projectile vomited up all that cheese onto 1. The blankets 2. My dad. 3. Myself. I could see chunks of cheese in there.
My sister (age 4) loves string cheese, and she eats the same brand I vomited up that night. I cringe every time she asks me to open the package for her. 10 years later, it turns out I'm lactose intolerant.
And that, my friend, is why I fuckin' hate string cheese.
Favorite is probably my mom's lasagna. Great the first time and even better re-heated.
Least favorite is certain veggies and fruits like lettuce and apples. The mouthfeel makes me gag.
i wish you could've seen my expressions while reading this story. it went from excitement (was about to read something hilarious), laughter over the emphasis of multiple, to verbally saying out loud "Oh..." after reading you ate over half the bag to yourself... to a sad sigh mixed with ugh and shaking my head in horror.
i, um, am truly sorry you had to relive this event by sharing this story. but thank you. i think. lol but, really. i understand completely now why you hate string cheese.
Favorite home cooked meal? My mom makes a great roast, and my grandma's spaghetti is amazing. Fast food is pizza, (Papa John's in particular) and cheeseburgers. I hate fried salmon, and uhh....I really don't know anything else haha. Not too picky about food. I like most fruits though. Cantaloupe and apples are probably my favorite.
My favorite snacks and foods:
1.Flaming Hot Cheetos
2.Steak
3.Spaghetti
4.Spatzle
5. Norwegian Meatballs
6. Smores
7. Ravioli
8. Jerk Chicken
9. Peanut Butter Cookies
10. Raspberry Jelly Doughnuts
I'm literally laughing my ass off right now. It's totally fine, man. My parents had no idea how to feed a child until my sister came along (when I was 11, and the damage was already done). Either they were feeding their 6 year old adult portions, or they were shaming me for eating a granola bar. It was crazy.
Yeah, I'm good for cheese sticks, just not string cheese sticks. My sister, unfortunately, is obsessed with string cheese sticks. It disgusts me.
(By the way, my mom denies that this ever happened.)
Edit: Right after I typed this, I went downstairs and my sister complained that she was hungry. My mom told her to get a cheese stick. -_-
sounds like you were the trial and error child. when it came to food, at least. you poor thing. lol
and if i were your mom, i would deny it, too. it probably traumatized her so badly that she locked away that memory in a part of her brain that's hidden and threw away the key.
omg no. run. just run away. lol
I absolutely hate rice, and always have. According to my mom, when they took me to Korea when I was 2 (Army brat), I didn't like it there, either. Of course, rice is a staple in many cultures, and a lot of places in the U.S. try to give it to you as well, and I always have to find ways to avoid it.
I find myself making eggs on a regular basis. Either poaching them in the microwave or cooking scrambled eggs or making eggs in a frame. I just really fucking love eggs for some reason.
I absolutely can't stand salad mostly because I hate lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. The only common ingredients that I like are carrots and croutons. A lot of people think me not liking salad is the weirdest shit ever for some reason.
If I eat any type of salad the only kind would be a fruit salad. Other then that no thanks.
Same. I like more fruits than I do vegetables. So I guess I'm not TOTALLY against salad in that regard.
Have you ever had spinach or kale salad (or both together)? I also hate "normal" salad, but I love spinach and kale.
I've never had kale. I have had cooked spinach a couple of times before and thought it was good. Just kinda depends on how it's cooked. Never had it raw though.
I enjoy most types of food. Pizza, steak, egg roles, homemade stew, and chicken fried steak are some of my favorites. As for food I dislike, I'm not a huge fan of peanut butter, most pasta dishes, spicy food, seafood, and onions.
Fries dipped in Ice cream that's new to me.
Salty fries and chocolate ice cream? I'm nuts about food touching, but I actually really enjoy that.
I am very picky when it comes to food and eating.
But my biggest love is
I hate tomatoes
Tacos are my favorite.
I ditto that. Tomatoes are devils work, though I have no troubles eating ketchup or tomato soup. Weird.
Spaghetti with meatballs tops my list.
I love anything sour but don't like sweet stuff too much, except chocolate.
Am also a vegetarian, used to do it for environmental reasons but now couldn't eat it because it just feels weird to. Don't have a problem with meat eaters though, except those ones that judge other cultures for eating different animals than they do - people who are outraged that in some countries people eat dogs when they eat copious amounts of, for example, bacon, is ridiculous, especially considering pigs are more intelligent than dogs.
I love seafood. Anything seafood is the best. I also like chocolate and fruit.
I don't really hate certain foods. But I wouldn't want to eat foods like cow tongue, chicken feet, snail soup, or bull testicles.
I enjoy italian and mexican food. My favorite pasta dish is fettuccine alfredo. And I really like tortilla soup. I don't like ketchup, mustard, yams, tuna, and pickles.
Papa Murphy's cheesy bread is the best, especially while watching hell's kitchen.
dude I love ketchup, tomato soup and other stuff like that too
I used to be super squeamish about kimchi, even though I love Korean cuisine in general. Then I mixed it something, probably bibimbap, and it was like solving an equation that had long eluded me. Now I totally get why it's a ubiquitous thing and eat it with everything Korean
In general, though, I like everything except raw onion. I like sauteed onions, onion rings, and even pico de gallo, but only because the other ingredients in the latter masks that pure onion-ness.
On that note, I love meeting people who hate cilantro for tasting like soap. Genetics is pretty neat
I may or may not have licked my screen just now
I really hate anything that tastes bitter or are made up of organs such as liver, heart, intestines and the like.
I hate foods such as grapes or tomatoes that have that 'pop' effect with the juices squirting out. They makes me gag. I have such a bad gag reflex that smelling a banana starts me off.
One thing I like the most is noodles. Lots and lots of noodles.
I dont eat till about 12pm, I eat my sandwich then have dinner around 6pm, then repeat the cycle.
Can't judge you for doing that.
Ah, now I wanna eat it.
I took an international cooking class in high school... it basically amounted to finding all the different names for meat baked into pastry...
Well, like any good Austrian, Spaetzle!
This. So much this. What's even worse, in Korea tomato is considered a fruit (which it technically is), and put into fruit salad. Tomato sauce, yum. Tomatoes by themselves, gross...
I absolutely love soups. They're a big part of Russian cuisine and I always eat one almost every day. My biggest shock when I came to Britain was the fact that people here barely eat soups!! I don't know how I survived these 2 weeks, I just called my mom and said "please cook a giant pot of borsch when I come home".
I also like meat, fish, rice, bread, potatoes, garlic and vegetables, especially if boiled. And sweets are literally my whole life - can't live a day without a piece of chocolate or something like it. Though I prefer ice-cream and marmelade.
I'm not a fan of sauces (except mustard), cheese, fried and overly salty food, also fastfood isn't my thing.
