TWD S3E2: Stuck - can't press "A" fast enough

I'm playing on the Xbox One and I'm stuck at the part where the gate gets rammed, the gas canister gets thrown and Javier has to push a zombie off of him. I'm supposed to keep mashing "A" but the zombie always eats me before the circle gets filled.

I've finished many Telltale games that have the same mechanic, and I've never died seven times in a row like I have here. The kicker is that I have an Elite controller, and I'm mashing "A" with both the face button and the paddle at the same time, which usually makes these timed events go much faster.

Am I missing something? What can I try?

    Try pressing just the face buttons. In this case, the [ A ] button.

    I've tried that, but I'm still not fast enough. I've tried mashing just the paddle too, in case I'm faster with that.

    I've also tried mashing the button before the prompt appears on the screen.

    Is there anything else I can try?

    That is weird indeed. While I played on PC and had to mash the Q button, I never failed any such scene and not that one either in particular.
    Could that be a bug?

    Just kidding, could be a bug. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

    Hey, that worked. I reinstalled the game and nailed it on my first try. Thanks for everybody's help!
