Indie Game Rebooted: Unlucky Seven

This game was a project 3 years or so ago, and this profile picture that I have right now is actually a character from that teaser video. It's a horror adventure game.

Well, the project died. At least, it went quiet for a long time... but just a week ago, the game was rebooted... and it looks good.

The game was originally looking similar to a "Corpse Party"-esque type game; top down view, dialogue similar, so on and so forth. But it has since shifted gears to something more unique: 3D graphics, but made to look pixelated, which is an interesting hybrid to me.

For those who do not know, Unlucky Seven is a game where every choice truly matters... not just in details or toward dialogue or even whole scenes, but to the kind of story you get. Think of it like a homage to those old-school "pick your own adventure" books. I remember reading Goosebumps, specifically "The Creepy Creations of Professor Shock". I read that so many times I knew each and every ending as the back of my hand, and if I picked it up, I could probably still remember.

Your choices can lead to entire different storylines, with entirely new outcomes, with an entire set of different characters, situations, or endings.

The basic premise is that you are a part of the "Lucky 7" who are death row inmates who are given a chance for redemption by completing assigned tasks, typically work that is dangerous such as testing prototype spaceships or exploring mysterious or uninhabitable planets. Of course, things don't go well, and that's where you come in to take the wheel.

The characters are furries, which kinda remind me of Star Fox.

What do you think?

  • I really like the art style of this game, it's sort of a mix between Super Nintendo graphics and modern day horror games, it also reminds of the style of horror movies from the 80's, a really good way to make a low budget game look interesting.

  • Q4 2017.
