Favorite Final Fantasy
Hey gang. I'm a relative newcomer to the series. I started FF8 when I was much younger but gave up pretty quickly. Recently, my brother and I decided to return to the Final Fantasy series and play as many of them as we could for what we dubbed "The Year of Final Fantasy!" I decided it made sense to return to the game that broke me all of those years ago and regain my honor. I took FF8 on and, having grown as a gamer and a human being, followed it throuh to the finish and it's one of my favorite games of all time. It's also my favorite FF game (probably because it's the only one I've finished). I'm currently working on 15 (AMAZING), 13 (underrated), and 9 (VIVI!!). I can't wait to see if my favorite changes, which it probably will after I've beaten all of them, but what I really wanna know is what your favorite is and why. Sound off guys.

IX the absolute best!
Forever and always.
X, love pretty much everything about it.
Nice choice, my brother finished it recently and it looked AMAZING!!!
I'm about to add this one to my rotation, cannot wait!
Yeah, it's really amazing ao far. Can't get enough of Vivi's awesomeness.
IX, VI and VII are my top three. And I'd probably put them in that order also.
IX is one of my favourite games of all time, it's just so silly but can take itself seriously when it needs to.
Im playing 15 right now and I love it. It will be up there as a favorite. I dont really rank too much but of the ones I finished, I loved 8, 10, 10-2 and 13
To everyone saying FFIX
Thank you. You have no idea how much I've been shat on for saying it's my favorite of the PS era
I also think FF6/III if spectacular in just about every way
Nevermind they both feature moogles, those most blessed dancing creatures
FF9 will always have a special place in my heart.
VI, IX, VII, these are the agreed upon best, but only if you discount
Tactics is far and away the best FF game.
I'm not that far into IX, but it's already delivered emotional punches. Vivi's scene with the black waltz 3 just blew my mind.
I know, 15's amazing! I love 8 the most, but again, that's subject to change.
Tactics looks amazing and I really want to play it, but should I get the original or the psp one?
I've never played the PSP version.
But I would go for the original one myself.
From what I've played, IX seems to be a totally reasonable choice. It's charming, emotional and epic, I totally get why it's your favorite ps entry.
Awesome choice
Apparently the psp one comes with a better translation and new cutscenes, but I'm partial to getting the orginal experience. Either way, can't wait!
I never finished FFVII. I think I got stuck on some stupid mini game, then lost one of the discs.
You should download it, no discs to lose!
My favorite is IX. Love the setting, the characters and the story.
It was X-2 for a really long time, but ever since I played 7 for the first time and played a bit of 15 last year, it's definitely a tough decision to make.
9 didnt really make an impression on me but maybe Ill revisit someday.
Arent they remaking it? I might try again but I remember there was this racing game that I really hated. But again, its been a long time since I played it. I do love the FF series. Ive played most of them. I still have yet to finish the 13 trilogy.
Thanks. I can agree with the criticisms as far as the combat system, ease of the game, and perhaps the Big Bad/Necron-- but everything else about it just sucked. me. in. And while I adore the art style, I can see it putting people off. But it's greatest weakness perhaps is that it lives in the shadows of its predecessors, particularly VII. That's usually the argument--- basically boils down to, "Why do you love FFIX so much when VII exists?"
Because I was invested so much more in every single character, including the main antagonist, and their arcs were satisfying. Among other strengths, a big difference for me was the unifying theme of struggle between where you came from and wanting that place to call home, but also embracing who you are as an individual. Just about every character, even Choco, lived this out and I loved seeing each character deal with it in their own way. As the lead character, Zidane had a more likable personality for me, too.
Don't get me wrong, I did everything there was to do in VII, and I have no small appreciation for its well-deserved place in gaming history. And lord knows given how it's aged that it needs its remake. I didn't enjoy VIII as much, but I'm not saying it's bad either. But at the end of the day, FFIX persuaded me to care the most. I was actually sad when it was over.
X will always be my favorite. I've played VII, IX, X-2, XII and XV and loved them as well, but X is the one that still remains imprinted in my memory.
Out of the numbered ones I've only finished 8 and played half of 12. So I guess 8 wins by default. I've also finished Tactics and Type 0, Type 0 was surprisingly good mostly because the battle system was a blast.
I love X and XII
You should, it's really special.
From what I've seen, X is absolutely incredible!! Can't wait to play it!
Hey, a win by default is still a win, but it doesn't have to be a numbered entry. Whatever game that has Final Fantasy in the title that you love counts.
Can't wait for the Zodiac Age to come out so I can give XII a try, looks AMAZING!!!
IX, with X as a close second.
Out of all Final Fantasy games, I feel that IX got the spirit and charm of a fantasy game just about right for me in terms of world-building and exploration, environmental designs, character development, and the perfect balance of a fantasy and steampunk without edging too closely from either theme.
And of course, the soundtrack of IX is splendid, arguably one of the best of the main series.
Well said. It really is an amazing experience.
I know every Final Fantasy has its own unique world. But there was something about VII, IX and X (The ones that I have played) that drawn me to the world and setting. Maybe playing the games with a child mind just made it all the more magical. I didn't understood much English back then as I am not a native speaker, but I still understood the plots enough to understand what is going on.
All three of those entries have excellent narratives (which is the main thing I look for in pretty much any game). They really do draw you in and make you care. You should play VIII, most people down it but I really love its story.
FFX, because of shit like this:
I can't get enough of this seen, it kills me with laughter!
