I'm disappointed that instead of continuing the Gaangs story in a future we got Korra, that totally disrespected the rules, culture that ATLA built, also never found about almost everyone's favorite character; Sokka.
Yeah, the "bad boy" one is definitely played out and one I am definitely susceptible to fairly often (i.e. Emma and Hook in "Once Upon a Time")... I think to your point, the appeal of Zuko is that Katara helps him not be a villain, and that's what's appealing to the two of them together for shippers.
But in the end I totally agree... I never really shipped Katara with Zuko OR Aang so I'm kind of just ¯(ツ)/¯ about Katara's whole romantic subplot
in story, it's a little weird but in fan-fiction and stuff, I could see where it could work.
And that right there is the problem, su… morere in fan fiction you can do that, but in the actual show, no way. As you said, it's a trope, the typical "girl falls for the bad boy" cliche, and that's always been one of my biggest reasons why I hated this ship. We saw how that worked out once in the show already with Jet, and look how that ended. But even disregarding that, I still don't like this trope. Sure I've seen people say it was the "hero gets the girl" cliche with Aang, but, for starters, I don't see that trope played out nearly as much as the bad boy one. Two, is Zuko really a bad boy anymore at the end of the series? And three, if we didn't get any development between Aang and Katara, then they would have a point, but as it stood, I don't see it playing into that typical cliche.
I know he was on Futurama after it got revived, but as to what he's doing now, I don't know. And they did continue the Gaang's story, just in comic form. The creators did want to make what ended up being The Search comics into a TV movie with all of the voice actors coming back to reprise their roles, but Nickelodeon said no. And sorry to tell you this, but Katara was the best character.

I wonder what Aaron Ehasz works on now...
Actually aangs kinda dead, And I never said I wanted katara and zuko together I just said I prefer them over the boring love story as is now, I just wanted the story to be more interesting versus the typical hero gets the girl, plus that whole fortune telling thing, honestly I don't ship anyone, but prefer not katara and zuko themselves, but the idea that the twist was that ZUKO was the powerful Bender she would be ended up with, plus the Nick troll that zuko was originally kataras love, otherwise forget all that noise about shipping, I love sokka and zuko for who they are, awesome characters and we can all at least agree, zuko is THE MOST developed character in terms of how far he has come, at least to me.
You know every time someone disagrees with you whether it's Kenny or let's say this, it aint always cool to act like the "I'm a baderrse" I like you're arguments, they are funny, but it gets old after everyone who disagrees with you is a target for one-sided sarcastic fuckery, but I do respect your opinions, but I ain't a piece of shit for liking Kenny or saying I prefer zuko and katara over the former in the comment above, and you aren't for disagreeing, however you are when everything is your way or the highway ( also it's the past arguments I've seen with you that gets me, I asked a question and THIS TIME you were cool for answering it )
Firstly, don't put words in my mouth. I never said you were a POS for thinking what you think. Just that it is so illogical to ship two characters that have nothing even remotely tying them to romantic suspicion it is an absurd statement to me. But if that's what you feel, by all means...
Plus, I get this strange feeling your complaint isn't merely about my obviously piss-taking reply...

I said this in reply to mostlypoptarts below, but I didn't see it as the hero gets the girl cliche. Had the show not spent three seasons worth developing Katara and Aang's relationship, then yeah, it totally would be, but as it stands, I don't see it as that. I saw it as two people who developed a mutual attraction and emotional bond with the other. The story was already interesting, I don't think pulling some weird twist and doing the whole girl falls in love with the bad boy cliche all of a sudden would have made it more interesting

Aaron wanted it to make it a lot longer, moving different benders to one place isn't something to resolve in like 3 issues. Btw the comics are really poorly done (expressions and the crack shipping).
And sorry to tell you this, but Katara was the best character.
So because she was the "best", Sokka fans don't deserve some closure with his character, that makes sense.

Your right, It isn't, it's because the last time we spoke about a completely different subject, Kenny, you said that agreeing to disagree " was as cool as the surface of the sun" or something, so excuse me for assuming that this was similar, I love avatar but I'm not a shipper, I just prefer one story vs the alternative ( which is Canon so it's fun to think about alternatives when it differs from the show) If it's just your style of humor that's fine, but you have been very blunt with more than just your opinion in the past, still like the debates sometimes however ☺

How can anyone not love Iroh? Seriously, is it even possible to hate this guy? I've seen people hate Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Aang, etc., but pretty much everyone is in agreement that Iroh is fucking awesome. Everyone needs an Iroh in their lives, someone to give great wisdom (and tea), but also able to kick some ass or knock some sense into you when the time comes.
Iroh is my favorite character, followed by aang sokka and the fire prince himself, But Iroh is something rarely seen nowadays, a badass who's friendly. And most importantly, not bland as steamed rice, like some characters in legend of Korra I'm sad to say

I was surprised to find this thread on here of all places, right after I finished the story for this thing. Don't know if any of you are interested- it's about Toph taking her mini vacation four years after the Hundred Year War.
Actually, M. Night Shayamalan was going to make a decent Avatar movie- not amazing, but better than what we currently have. It was the producers who messed it up.
Don't try to defend him, the failure of the movie was essentially solely on him. The casting, the writing, the direction, the choreography, the butchering of the source material, that is all on him.

Yeah, ATLAB's my favorite cartoon of all time.
Yeah, it was sabotage from Nickelodeon's part... Then they had the nerve to replace it for Breadwinners, which is one of the worst cartoons of the decade. Not really feeling sorry for Nick right now with their low ratings on anything but Spongebob and The Loud House.
Meddling is understating it. Cutting the budget, odd air times, removing it from broadcast to web only, removing it from web to broadcast only, etc. They really hated the show.
Remember that time fucking Katara of all people said this to Toph...
she may be a water bender, but she literally just fucking scolded Toph's ass with that one.
love that she has this motherly older-spirit character but when it breaks, it breaks hard as fuck.
Exactly, and it's reasons like that which make an episode like The Southern Raiders my favorite in the series. You saw in that episode how her motherly spirit breaks, and she is just unstoppable when she is like that. Seriously, I'd be more scared of her when that dam breaks than Aang in the Avatar State.
Loving, compassionate Katara:
Pissed Katara (aka, the side you never want to be on)
Katara is fucking amazing... love that she has this motherly older-spirit character but when it breaks, it breaks hard as fuck.
She can basically go from caring mother to shit talker in like 5 secs.

I'd agree if I shipped it. XD
But I can't complain too much. Not everyone can get the ship they want.
For Iroh and his unconditional love for tea.

Probably my favorite fictional character ever, so philosophical and matured while still being humorous

Fair enough, I concede I may from time to time speak in more hyperbolism but I assure you it's simply me trying to inject humor in conversation...

LoK was sometimes good interjected with such bad lengths of time that I find it genuinely difficult to properly dissect.
But it was a far-cry from Avatar's genius.

Fair enough, I guess. Either way, the film was terrible.
Aw yis.
(...Uh... not my artwork, BTW.)
avatars my favorite cartoon as well
glad you like the thread

Been watching Avatar TLA since 2005 and I've just notices sokkas voice actor played the voice of some of my favorite chartacters
Remember that time fucking Katara of all people said this to Toph...

One (of the many) reasons why Katara is my favorite character from the show.
Katara is fucking amazing... love that she has this motherly older-spirit character but when it breaks, it breaks hard as fuck.

Exactly, her vengeful side was scary as shit.
It became my favorite cartoon series when I first watched it more than 10 years ago and it still is. Definately a masterpiece
