Christians: Do you believe the apocalypse will happen?

Every religion seems to speak of an end of the world. And from everything I have seen, Christianity seems to speak of it the most.

For example, Jesus is quoted as saying to his disciples shortly before he was crucified:

"You will hear about wars and reports of wars. Don’t be alarmed. These things must happen, but this isn’t the end yet. Nations and kingdoms will fight against each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in all sorts of places. But all these things are just the beginning of the sufferings associated with the end.

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." - Mathew 24: 6-8, 36-39.

Saint Paul later wrote:

"Understand that the last days will be dangerous times. People will be selfish and love money. They will be the kind of people who brag and who are proud. They will slander others, and they will be disobedient to their parents. They will be ungrateful, unholy, unloving, contrary, and critical. They will be without self-control and brutal, and they won’t love what is good. They will be people who are disloyal, reckless, and conceited. They will love pleasure instead of loving God." - 2nd Timothy 3: 1-4.

Saint Paul also wrote:

"There will come a time when people will not tolerate sound teaching. They will collect teachers who say what they want to hear because they are self-centered." - 2nd Timothy 4: 2-4.

I have read all of this, and I even asked my priest, but he didn't answer me, which is when I stopped going to Church, figuring if an expert couldn't tell me, then what was the point of me still going to Church.

I do however still consider myself Catholic.

Do I believe that the apocalypse will happen? I believe that it is a possibility to say the very least.

Not to sound really messed up or anything, but if the world were to go to shit (I know I'm definitely just saying this because it hasn't happened yet) I wouldn't be completely broken, in fact I want to be able to experience a real life apocalypse. But with saying that all the hurt that will come from it will destroy many life's and kill many people, which is truely dreadful, however I would like to experience the real apocalypse, like The Walking Dead game.

  • There is no great ceremonious ending that us humans are destined to embark on to reach some holy state of euphoric enlightenment.

We're all just drifting through a void we can't see or even fully comprehend 'till we fade out into obscurity, only temporarily feeding the earth as decomposable fuel and then nothing...

  • Apocalypse in Greek is apôkalupsis and the definition is an unveiling, uncovering, revealing, revelation. http://biblehub.com/str/greek/602.htm

Do I believe it will happen? Yes, because everything else has come true of God's prophecy so why would this be any different. As watchers, we observe the signs God has foretold to know when the time of His arrival is near. This is why the Parable of the Fig Tree is very important to understand.

  • Only apocalypse that's ever likely to happen is a nuclear apocalypse or an environmental one. An Extinction Level Event.
