My all time favorite movie is 2014's Whiplash, written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring JK Simmons as Terrence Fletcher and Miles Teller and Andrew Neiman. This movie completely blew me away when I first saw it, not only is Damien Chazelle's direction exceptional throughout the film, but Simmons' performance is one of the best performances by any actor that I have ever seen. His character is an abusive music instructor who pushes his students to their limit in order to get the best out of them, and when I say abusive, I mean it. He lures his students into a sort of false sense of security, making them believe he cares about their performance and wants them to relax and have fun, but then he does a complete 180 and starts physically, verbally, and emotionally berating his students to the point of submission, and you see the effects of it take their toll on Neiman, as well as the other musicians. But despite the abuse, Neiman keeps coming back, practicing harder and harder because of his own ambition to become the next great jazz musician.

If you've never seen this movie, I highly recommend you do.

  • Cool I'll check it out

One of my favourite movies of all times is District 9.

I've always like films that features aliens that have so much in common with humanity in spite of their unusual or grotesque appearances. Hell, most of the aliens in the film were more human than the humans themselves.

  • I love district 9! The director teased a few years ago of developing a sequel to district 9.

  • I'm worried about planned sequels for a film that is already pretty much perfect in my eyes, so I'm hoping that when a sequel for District 9 does happen, it still carries the same spirit the original has.

  • I love Whiplash so much!! The first time I watched it, I was literally at the edge of my seat. This movie seriously blows you away, like I panicked several times throughout it because of how intense it was. ITS SO GOOD!!!

    • Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed and Rene Russo

    • Whiplash, starring Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons

Both movies were released in 2014 and they're amazing. They're both pretty intense but unique. Not to mention the acting in both films are phenomenal and Jake deserved an oscar for his role in Nightcrawler.

I'm too lazy to write them all down. Here's a list of all the films I've given a 10/10 on my IMDB.

    Films I've Rated 10

    • Basically all Disney/Pixar movies (especially Lion King, Wall-E and Mulan)
    • Basically all Ghibli movies (especially Totoro and Mononoke Hime)
    • Pokemon: The first Movie (1998)
    • Home Alone/ Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
    • Gremlins
    • Intouchables
    • Marley & Me
    • Jumanji
    • Jurassic Park
    • Titanic
    • James Cameron’s Avatar
  • I just watched The Pianist a few days ago. It'a about a jewish pianist that managed to get out of the Warsaw Ghetto, and survived in the war-torn city of Warsaw during the worst years of WWII. It was heartbreaking. I loved it.

Memento and The Wall (the Pink Floyd movie) are pretty awsome, too. The Arrival (the one with the aliens) was great. I loved how the point wasn't to kill the aliens, just to understand what they had to say. Great movies. A day without Mexicans was awsome, it showed how fucked the U.S would be if all immigrants (both legal and illegal) are suddenly gone.

  • Watched it not long ago... Truly a masterpiece!! The first movie that made me sweat and shake, so many emotions! And it also has one of the best endings ever.
