If you were given the choice what would you do

Save a loved one (Girlfriend Brother dont matter ) or Save 1000 people you have never known or talked too

Comments

  • Oh God LiS flashbacks! xD Umm...as terrible as this sounds, probably my girlfriend. Because the 1000 I've never known so they don't mean much to me. (I'm sorry that sounds so shitty lol.)

  • I'd save my wife.

  • This is not a difficult choice at all! Of course I'd save the one I like. Why would I care more about people I've never met? THWT.

  • Who cares? Isn't choice an illusion here?

    no?

Okay then. Will those 1000 people know I saved their lives?
    That might be pretty awesome.
Seriously, it would depend. If this loved one was +60 or if I knew they would choose others, I'd have to go with the 1000.
If we're talking about a child, I would have to choose the 1.

I am very much a survival of the species, grand scheme, kind of guy. The truth is... We, as a species, have to figure something out soon or we will all die. Overpopulation is becoming a very real problem.

  • It would depend entirely on the situation, if I could directly save a loved one, I'd likely unconsciously go for them over the others but that may not be true and if I had time to think it through, it would depend on who the other people were, since this scenario is so vague, I don't know if it's worth sacrificing a loved one if those 1000 people are criminals or people that would let me or my loved ones die in a heartbeat.

An interesting scenario though, save the one who cares about you and you care about or the many who don't know you and possibly don't care about you in the slightest but are just as deserving to live.

  • BAE > BAY, no doubt. Gonna be happy with my Pricefield trash.

Well, actually, I don't know. If the loved one had a long, fullfiling life, maybe. Idk.

  • What if your loved one is saying, "Don't save me, save those other 1,000 people! I could never forgive myself if a thousand people had to die just for me!"

    This question is very situational.

  • If the one person was my brother/parents/pets/any family....then yes I would. I mean, come on. If you had to kill an animal to feed your child, you'd do it, so why wouldn't you save your loved one?

  • Funny, for me it's always been bay before bae but if it was the life of one member of my close family vs those 1000 strangers, I'd save my family in the blink of an eye.

  • As much as I hate to say it, probably sacrifice the loved one. I know that sounds really shitty of me, but thousands of lives I think are a lot more valuable than one life. To quote Spock: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one."

  • I'd save my dog over 1000 people I don't know

  • Did you just equate killing a single animal to feed a starving child to letting 1,000 people die?

  • Depends, do I get any sort of confirmation about what type of people will be saved? Is the offer coming from someone likely to, say, save 1,000 people on death row? It's likely I would save the 1,000 random people.

  • My friends: the Goonies. I can't live without all of them.

Won't know until I'm confronted with such a choice.

All the theories and discussions in the world don't mean a damn thing until it happens to you, and until then there is really no use talking about it, because you don't know what you're gonna do until you're faced with it.

We all know and imagine how we'd like to react in certain situations, and that's because we're all the heroes of our own stories, but until the shit hits the proverbial fan, it's just talk.

  • Tough call, I've sacrificed everything that I wanted for y family so to lose them would be the ultimate failure as the sacrifices would have been for naught, however, I'm very pragmatic so I'd likely choose the people because I'm a martyr by nature and sacrificing my family for the common good would be the true sacrifice as my life is worthless (I don't mean that I think ill of myself but if I would trade it for anyone else's it does mean that its cost is cheap) and I would give it away for anyone.

  • No, I'm just making a point. Family comes first.

  • I imagine it would depend at least somewhat on what my family told me to do.

  • I don't know about overpopulation needing to be a factor in this decision, but apart from that I completely agree. There are sensible conclusions beyond intensive moral self-searching.
