That is fair. I'm just going to wait 'til I sit and play to see if it destroys the immersion. I do hope the dialogue gets batter. There's some pretty corny stuff at the beginning. I've played some really low-rent rpgs, so some bad animation isn't going to kill it for me. It's fair to criticize it though. You better believe that if it can't be patched out, it'll be WAY better for the next game with all the flack they're getting over it. You do have to call companies out to get changes, but there's a point where people get childish about it. I've already had that rant in a different thread though.
Well Mass Effect was never about gameplay originally, first Mass Effect had some pretty bad combat actually, but the game really shined when… more it came to the story and characters. If the story is bad and the animations / voice acting / ugly character models destroy immersion then we have a problem. Also Mass Effect 1 and 2 gad more endings than any TTG game, that is more then 1 ending, so the coice was always something more important than in TTG games TTG is still fine as long as the story is good I can live with false choice (like in say first TWD season or TWAU and TFTB).
True, this matter does deserve some investigation, since she had on her profile that was the lead facial animator yet Flynn says she was a former employee, but I still think it's wrong to just single out and spam individuals with nothing but hate messages. Why not Bioware Montreal as a whole, or EA? Considering they likely got sick of delaying the game after 5 years and forcing Bioware Montreal to ship it.
But she did say that she was the lead facial animations artist on the twitter? So that means she was laying and in that case I feel no sympa… morethies. I guess a lot of people got tricked to spend 60 or 70$ for this game (I think it goes up to 140$ with some special edition) and now feel cheated. This isn't unique to gaming. Films and TV shows get this kinda stuff too. In the end the best way to hurt EA is just not to preorder the game and not to buy it if the reviews and footage from reviewers shows that is a crap game and it in this case it is.
Well I have heard the story is pretty good and there are some excellent fights later on...but in an RPG there are 3 pillars that hold the structure up. Story is important...apparently it is uneven but gets pretty good. So I will mark a check on there. Locations....suitably awe inspiring...a feast for the eyes and the imagination. So I give it a check there. Characters....unfortunately this is a pillar that is non negotiable in a rpg.
It is not like the background of the Ryder's is anything out of the ordinary when it comes to these stories. The child carrying on a father's legacy with the weight of humanity on his or her shoulders. It is of course the meat and potatoes of any rpg that you leave the back story with enough leverage that the player can imagine how things went down.
EXAMPLE FROM MASS EFFECT 1-3 My FemShep Azibel was born on the colony world of Mindoir. She was something of a tomboy but had fallen in love with a man named Daniel. At the age of 16 the colony is attacked by slavers and almost everyone is killed. Her parents die and Daniel is taken as a slave. At the age of eighteen she joins the Alliance military. Her hatred for aliens fuels her actions in the battles leading up to the assault on the moon Torfan. In bloody room to room fighting in the massive underground base a majority of her force die....enemy prisoners are few. In the course of attaining her N6 and N7 she was sent on missions that had her interacting with aliens that were not always out to kill her, this led to her reassessment of humanity's actions verses aliens and understanding that there are no strict black and white answers in the universe. Mass Effect 1...saved the council romanced Kaiden. Mass Effect 2 No romance...was hurt by Kaiden's words. Mass Effect 3 Tell Kaiden to get off her ship romances Liara.
By leaving a character's background open..like they did for ME 1-3 you can get a ton of story if you wish.
Mass Effect: Andromeda though....how do you get over the faces that look like you just had a massive stroke? Or broke ass animations? I will wait until they get these things fixed. They spent 40 million on this game....where?

How do you define Gamergate in this regard, because online I see a lot of reasonable and seemingly nice people who are genuinely concerned about the ethical standing and the lack of pro consumer ideology in the gaming industry.
I barely even saw much harassment? Where is the harassment? Is it just bland dumb comments you can easily ignore? A lot of people are "harassed" online, but you absolutely shouldn't let it phase you, don't make a mountain out of a molehill, it just makes it even worse.
I don't exactly see how expectations of a functional working product are "fanboyism" either. I think the criticisms and concerns after ME3's ending (and the horrible PR relations and rude treatment of fans by the company in the aftermath) is quite justified to be concerned about, and calmly criticizing, discussing, and boycotting are legitimate responses.
The sad part of internet anonymity is we have no clue who the minority of harassers are, but acting as if that somehow paints all gamers negatively is a horrible assumption.
Heck, the reporter who started the witch hunt is apparently anti GameGate, people on the Official Reddit are condemning harassment all the time, including in this instance.
To quote 7DollarHagane from Neogaf:
It's like a perfect shitstorm for GG assholes.
AAA franchise handed over to new developer w… moreith high expectations among those who are blinded by fanboyism and take games too seriously.
Disappointing early impressions and mocking gifs and videos making the game look like a low budget steam asset flip.
Mass Effect Superfan Defense Force assembles.
False news story created about how sexy cosplayer gamer girl is totally responsible for all the bad things in your highly anticipated game.
Childlike, immature, imbecilic faction of defense force (and the internet's existing dumpster fire of MRA idiots looking to attack any woman) assumes gamer girl got the job because of her sexy cosplayer woman status and clearly knows nothing about animation or game development, also assumes that one person can be fully responsible for thousands of hours of work and planning.

Sweetheart, did you even look at the first screenshot? Her Twitter bio says "lead facial animator for Mass Effect Andromeda" verbatim. It's … moreliterally right there. Either BioWare is covering her ass for whatever reason or she lied and deleted the claim after getting caught.
That could have been rather cute, but sadly the voice acting, delivery, low res blurry flickering character models, really bad animations, and the absurd amount of stuttering, glitching faces and eyeballs, flat lighting, and general bugginess ruin it. The characters are "ugly", but real people look a lot nicer than that, most people are wonderful and awesome and beautiful in unique ways yo!
I have no problem with that sort of dialogue theoretically, I find it endearing and cute sometimes, but everything else about the scene falls flat.
Plus that isn't something you say out of the blue after first meeting someone.
The face glitching and twitching and the flickering shadows on the hair especially annoy me.
Yeah. Gamespot gave it a 6/10. Eurogamer also has published an unfavourable review. This game is like No Man's Sky 2. Bioware seems to be pretty much dead at this point. What a way to go.

Clarify what's the difference between an animation glitch like this...
And what happens in ME:A like this...
And I'm not trying to say that what's happening in ME:A is acceptable b/c it's not. I hope Bioware fixes the animations soon. But I don't think saying ME1 had better animations is fair b/c all games start out with their own glitches that need to be worked out. I recently replayed ME1 and I encountered loads of bugs, texture pop ins, frame rate issues. All games need work after release and I'm sure after a little while most of Andromeda's bugs will be fixed.
Hey smartass, you keep posting pictures of glitches yet I've numerously mentioned I'm talking about ANIMATIONS. The way their faces move. You can't show that on a single picture.

Hopefully they fix up these animations, although considering how prominent they appear to be, it may take months of re-animating possibly the whole game, which, now that I think about it they might decide against doing
I wanted to like this game, but seeing the reviews and the animations has made me very disappointed.
Then there's the way they've handled romance. Jesus. 1 full romance for gay male ryders, and 5 for gay female and straight male?
Not to mention that the gay scene is a fade to black while the straight sex scenes are fully animated and basically porn.
Obviously not the biggest issue, it's not a dating sim. But it's something I'm personally disappointed about - I expected better from Bioware. Please don't get offended or anything, just my opinion. Fewer romances for gay people is one thing, but putting more effort into the straight ones is a whole different ballpark.

The second is a product of lazy inexperienced animators. They aren't bugs or glitches, they're just shitty and amateur.
Just saying, that's how I do things. I don't let what other people say control how I feel. I don't even have money to buy the game right now but still plan on getting it eventually.
Just saying, that's how I do things. I don't let what other people say control how I feel.
That's so unfair though. There are many people who will only be able to get the game by saving for a while, and they might not even end up liking it. That's a risk many can't take.
People who can't afford to take a chance on a game are not being weak by reading reviews. They're who reviews are for. Expecting people to save up for a while for a game they don't even know if they'll like is not reasonable, and doing so is not a marker of individual strength.
Just saying, that's how I do things. I don't let what other people say control how I feel. I don't even have money to buy the game right now but still plan on getting it eventually.
Unfair?? I'm talking about my OWN way of handling things. It's none of my concern what others do. Trust reviews or don't, save up or don't, it's no skin off my nose. You do you and I'll do me. I don't "expect" people to do anything. Not sure why this is upsetting you so much when I'm literally just talking about my own experiences. There's no moral high ground in my words, so could you stop twisting them?
Look, all I'm saying is that I judge things on my own terms. If others can't or don't want to, fine, that's their business. Now if you don't mind I'd like to be done with this subject.

Oh please. When you say 'I don't let what other people say control how I feel' when explaining why you don't watch reviews, you are clearly casting judgement on those who do watch reviews, implying that they are 'letting themselves' be 'controlled' by others, when it may be a choice between watching reviews to figure out if you can afford it for what it is and not getting the game at all.

Flog...why are you acting this way...Lahkesis just stated that they do not let reviews determine for them the value of a game. I can relate...there are many jaded reviewers out there who are reviewing games and movies...and they like to rip them apart. Now I am not saying that the game deserves better scores...but value is something that is subjective. I know what I like...and I am not going to let a reviewer keep me from playing the game.
Lahkesis was not judging you or others. It will be ok....just wait for the game to go on sale or get patched. You said you preordered...so I guess you will be playing it anyways....you may agree with the reviewers...or you at find a diamond in the rough. But Lahkesis was not prejudging anyone...they just stated that reviews do not matter to them. A lot of people feel that way.

It's nothing personal, it's just because lots of people have no other choice really due to financial reasons. I really dislike it when people who some moral value to the fact that they don't watch reviews. Some people need to watch them, they aren't weaker for doing so, some people can afford not to, they're not stronger for that. That's all. Whether you watch a review or not, your opinions aren't 'controlled' by others.

That's fine. It's just my personal opinion that saying things like 'I don't let what other people say control how I feel' is unnecessary and does imply judgement of those who do need reviews. Only my opinion.

While it is Story based it doesnt mean its all the game has while with Telltale they Trown their complete Focus on the story without the Gameplay ((Unless you think QTES Mean good gameplay)) Which is why Telltale s games are completely Story based while Mass Effect also has to worry about Gameplay which they re Refining or Ruining it ((If you dont Like thermal Clips )) even more with each installment ((TBH i liked the thermal clips but it was probably More because ME1 s Controls were a bit Clunky compared to the other games))
Hard to play through a STORY BASED GAME when you can't get immersed into it while talking to literally any character. I don't know about you… more, but when I play a game series like MASS EFFECT which is known for its STORY not combat, I want to not cringe when I look at and hear people speak.
Man I knew when I started Nier Automata I shouldn't have played that first I was set on playing Mass Effect then Nier, but after starting Nier to make sure my PC could handle it I couldn't stop, and now Mass Effect is getting mauled by reviewers and I won't be able to stop myself from comparing.

I guess Bioware should have tried harder to keep their writers. Sad, but it seems like that's what they're getting hammered on(besides animation). We'll see how I feel about it once I play it. Remember, apparently ME3 was a complete piece of shit because it had a bad ending.
