Surround Protagonist with Idiots so the Protagonist looks super smart, if at all smart.
Throw in a macguffin plot device so the writers can put the Protagonist into impossible to escape scenarios, but then escape by the level up doctrine when a new ability with the plot device is unlocked. Again to make the protagonist actually look smarter than he is.
Run out of Ideas then throw in a 2nd macguffin, repeat and profit.
Officially fool viewers that they're watching something intelligent.
I was told the anime was so great, then I watched it, one of a few anime I was grossly disappointed with because of how over hyped people made it. Oh well, at least it had the potato chip scene, perfect clip, will never be forgotten, unlike the rest.
That being said, I hope one day I catch this on TV or something so I can have a few laughs. Like when the DBZ film was on TV, or when I watched the Gundam G Saviour film. Anime Live Actions, some of the worst films you will ever see. lol

I think I prefer the live action film of Death Note that came out in 2006.
