Horizon Zero Dawn questions!

I was thinking about buying this game because I want something new (well Robots VS Indians is new IP I guess) to play for once.
After seeing so many sequels I want to try something new.
I have no idea what the story of Horizon Zero Dawn is about really like at all only thing I see is some weird Lion King indians fighting Machines with bows and arrows in a post apocalyptic world... Would somebody explain me that please?

I am not a big fan of post apocalyptic world settings except if they are there for a few hours but would this effect my expierence?

That is explained in the game and it would be spoilers.

Were there even that many caves in the game? I remember mostly being outside.

Hope you like the same set of caves over and over.

  • Do you like the recent Far Cry games? Do you like Assassins Creed? It's basically both of them put together. If you like platforming, crafting/hunting type of gameplay then you'll like this game. The story is just the most generic nonsense ever and the protagonist is just a straight up awful human being so if you're looking for a good story then this game isn't for you. I enjoyed it but it's not as amazing as people make it out to be.

I am not a Far Cry fan but I am incarnation of the AC storyline lore

Godamned! I am a story lover but why is she awful? Just tell me what happened in the first 5 hours why she is awful please in a spoiler tag

  • She's just a massive hypocrite. She goes after people who threaten others with violence but whenever she wants something done she just threatens to kill them if they don't do what she says. She has no respect for anyone in the game, she treats everyone like dirt for no reason.

This is pretty spoilerly, about 5 hours in, but theres a guy who ends up being forced to track her because if he doesnt then his family will be killed. She finds him and then you get the choice to kill him, if you do then his family is dead. If you don't she still treats him like an awful person even though he apologize profusely and offers to help her in anyway he can. Later on, there's a character she meets that calls her out on her bullshit and her obnoxious attitude and its so satisfying. He has to tell her multiple times in the main missions to stop being an asshole, that's how bad of a person she is. Maybe it's just me but I found her so irritating.

If it was me I would help him to save his family

  • It depends on your decision, but Aloy can help him save his family. Graysonn exaggerates and didn't tell the full story either. The character in question is responsible for a lot of horrific things - with some of them heavily affecting Aloy personally.

Anyway, your family being threatened with death is no excuse for doing evil. Of course you don't welcome that person with open arms and a kiss on the forehead.

  • It's an awesome game. Easily already my favorite this year and Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't even released.

The story is not the re-invention of the wheel, but still very well done. The characters are interesting as well and each NPC that interacts with you is unique. That's awesome. As awesome as the fact that most of the side-quests tie in with the main story at some point.. but still are optional. I do also recommend the soundtrack. Quickly became one of my favorites of all time.

And Aloy is not an "awful human being". Wtf is Graysonn talking about.

  • note : I finished the game days ago, having only 20% of achievement left. I've done everything except a couple of side missions which I will do later.

I will say that horizon zero dawn have a great story, but the thing this IP excel at is world building. why humanity came to this conclusion and the sacrifices along the way. I wont spoil anything so you check it for yourself. but I loved the world building more than the story. this is where they got me hooked.

as far as combat, yes you use bows, grenades and everything in between. you can shackle enemies and then toss a grenade or use your bow, there are different rarities for every weapon you use and you can add like augmentations to each weapon you use and they have rarities as well, you cant craft in a sense but buy those weapons/armors from merchants and you must have the parts needed for the weapon you want too make or just buy them if you don't want to kill or search for resources, that wont be easy unless you unlock certain areas with special merchants who specify in set resources.

if anything else you want, ask me anything and I wont spoil the game :)

  • Well I loved Dragon Age 2. :p

Hope you like the same set of caves over and over.

  • Personally, I think the game is amazing. I have no idea why Grayson thinks that Aloy is an awful human being, she's a compelling and relatable character who has her reasons for doing what she does. The story is intriguing. Cliched? Maybe in the premise, but the way it evolves is far from it. The lore is expanded and detailed. Gameplay wise, it draws clearly from AC, The Witcher and Far Cry, with original elements mainly concerning the bow. Anyway, it's incredibly funny and I warmly recommend it.

  • This is what i've been playing recently, and i really like the gameplay.

All of the combat mechanics are really fluid and interesting to play around with, and the side quests are some of the best i've played and are integrated into the actual storyline, which is a bonus.

I like playing as Aloy, and while i don't see her as a terrible person, i can understand how some may not understand her characters actions or opinions in certain situations. I feel that her background as an outcast for the last 19 yrs or so, and the fact that literally No One spoke to her but Rost during that time, makes these little foibles or misunderstandings easy for me to overlook. Mostly i feel that they add to her characterization as a realistic human being, she just doesn't know how to relate in a lot of situations.

  • Are you telling me the choices in that game had that big of an impact? Because that's not at all how she behaved when I played it.

  • The game is ok, its not the amazing ground breaking masterpiece people are making it out to be 6.5/10

You get to ride horses and bull things, its fun. There are easy rock climbing sections where you just tap the same buton repeatedly like in nathan drake. There aren't very many costumes and weapons to collect but there is a ok selection. If you play in the hardest difficulty you need to use traps, sneak and plan ahead the combat is the lower end of challenging but very fun, if you play in a easier mode its just hack n slash easy peasy no need for lots of weopons.

There arent many people to talk to in the world it doesn't feel as interactive as witcher for example, you cant even talk to the innkeeper and ask for rumours.

There aren't very many quests I got 100% and platinum on the hardest difficulty in about 35h thats even with the bugs and glithes I got (launch day copy)

I dont know why people are all "I cant say anything because spoilers" in the beginning sequence you find a ancient bunker with human remains they have these vr headsets that the mc puts on human civilization as we know has collapsed and alloys world is whats left the main story teaches you about the fall of civilization.

I prefered far cry primal but this has robots and science and shit so if sc fi apeals to you get this if you just want cool mounts and tribal fun get far cry primal its better.

  • So allowing his family to die is fine? The person in question might not be nice but his family did nothing to deserve their fate.

  • That was just an example, the choices don't have much impact. It's strange honestly because they use this 'compassion, threaten, rational' type dialogue choice format but they don't use it except for three or four times so I would choose compassion pretty much every single time but then I would go do a side quest where she's talking to someone and they don't tell her a piece of information so she would threaten to murder the person in question if they didn't tell her where/what she was looking for.
That's not at all what I would call compassionate.

  • Then don't choose to kill him? Also, to be honest, Aloy has far more and far bigger problems than saving a family of a stranger. She is not Superwoman who is able to save everyones life. People die, it's normal.

Saving the world has much higher priority than saving the family of a guy who is the reason your life and the lives of many many others were completely destroyed.

  • Why do people always compare HZD with Witcher 3? That is the most unfair comparison ever.

Horizon Zero Dawn is the absolute first RPG of Guerilla Games, while CD Projekt Red had Witcher 1 and 2 to learn how to develop and fill an open-world RPG. Gameplay-wise, HZD already surpassed The Witcher 3.

If you want to make a fair comparison, look at Witcher 1 or.. wait for Horizon 3 and then compare it with Witcher 3.
