Why does the RE7 Intro Look Better Than The Game?

Don't misunderstand me; the game was absolutely frigging amazing! The graphics, the mystery, the gameplay; everything! However, one littler pet peeve I have about video games is how the trailers or even the game intros look far better than the actual games themselves; they look more realistic, and Resident EvII (RE7) is no exception!

Here's the Game Intro

So, if you take a look at the intro, and then at the game itself, it looks different. The intro looks more realistic (to me it does, anyways). And it also gave me more chills than the game itself (and no, after-chills of jumpscares don't count).

Of course, I realize that trailers and intros HAVE to be at least a bit better than the game and with RE7, at least the trailer/intro stayed true to what the game was about (unlike Dead Island, which showed us an emotional scene in which a family is killed after zombies break into their room and then the actual game felt shitty because there was no story like that at all). But game developers sometimes have a bit of a habit in making trailers look more realistic and almost actually real than the actual game itself.

I'm not disappointed with the game, but it's one of my pet peeves and I tend to notice these things.

  • Sometimes, trailers, teasers, intros etc. are more enjoyable than the games themselves. Probably because they feature music which gives anyone chills.

What makes it even amazing is that it features save rooms with comfortable music. After the shooting, the creatures, the puzzles and suffering, you would need a save room whose music should make you relax for few minutes and get ready for the next action. This is one of the highlights of Resident Evil franchise.

I love Resident Evil 7 so much. I plan to get the platinum from it someday.

  • That's all pre-rendered stuff.
None of that is supposed to show off the actual product (because when that trailer first came out, Resident Evil 7 wasn't out yet either.) it's only meant to generate hype by showing how the game will feel in aesthetic.

Trailers are usually like this. But I don't mind it when it happens this way.

  • Hm, y'know, I never really thought too much about the music but yeah, that's a very solid point!

  • Eh, I really (personally) think that if the trailer looks one way, then the game should at least look 4/5 the same as the trailer or intro. It's really just a pet peeve I have.

Like AChicken said, a lot of game trailers are like that because they're supposed to get people excited for the final product and make it seem like it's going to be an amazing experience. I guess in a way it's kind of misleading, but as long as the game itself turns out to be enjoyable then it doesn't bother me.

  • Didn't Mia look a bit odd in that "happy video" during the intro? Immediately afterwards she looks fine though. Youtubers and myself found her a bit ugly during that part (they would make a disgust noise) I guess, anybody else feel the same way? The graphics were certainly bouncing around in the intro lol, still loved the game though.

  • Yeah, then it's probably just me, but it's still a major pet peeve for me.

  • Yeah, the game itself was awesome! Great graphics, but it can sometimes be a bit annoying when developers do that with the trailers and intros; a bit of a pet peeve for me.

Like, in game trailers, there are like, no issues such as hair going through the shoulder and stuff like that, kinda like it's an animated movie. But in video game cutscenes, we sometimes see that the movements of people are not quite as smooth and we occasionally see hair cutting into body parts or armour or clothes not doing their thing. That kind of stuff bugs me just a bit.

  • Resident Evil Remake. This game was a perfect way to be introduced to the franchise.
