Yeah, in the older trailers they did have stuff like that but from around the start of TWD season 2 and TWAU they would sometimes leave out characters from key scenes to avoid spoilers like this example below.
They showed Ben's death in S1 and the scene where Kenny was originally going to die. So it's not as if telltale has been shy of revealing spoilerish content in trailers.
But they also said we might not (translated from PR: won't) play them at the same time, which means Clementine was never meant to be playable in the present.
I'd really like to know the full, original storyline. Why was Javi marked by NF? Who were they searching for?

Telltale often leave out characters from trailers to avoid spoilers, they also did this for previous seasons of TWD and they did the same thing for their other games too.

EDIT: It is relatively stupid to hope to see it, I don't see Clem having some kind of bag to have it (like the Wellington flashback). Unless she learned one from Lee and can carry objects the size of a blowtorch in their back pocket.
She had a backpack thing that she carried AJ with, so I'm assuming Kenny's hat was in that. When she was exiled from the New Frontier she was thrown out with nothing but her knife and possibly a pistol that we didn't see in that flashback. Her backpack was nowhere to be found so I think the New Frontier kept it and it is likely never to be seen again, there is a small possibility that her bag is with AJ now but it's a slim one. I think Kenny's hat is gone forever.
