What Happened To Talltale?
Well It's been 2 years since I logged in here and 6 years since I have bought a Telltale title. I was with this company since the very very beginning. I supported them and loved the games they made. I am not a fan of the new stuff like the Walking Dead and the other IPs they god. I understand they need to branch out and do new games and you aren't always going to like every game they release. Companies evolve and new games and IPs are needed. Its the way gaming studios survive. I don't like walking dead but TellTale has made a lot of money from it and that is a good thing. The issue I have is what about the IPs you forgot about and the IPs that help you make the company you are today. If it wasn't for Sam & Max and Monkey Island you wouldn't be here today. I want new games from these old IPs and a lot of other people do as well. I know this won't be your top priority as other IPs that make more money is more important and keep the company making money.
I just want a new game or say hey we hear you and say "we can make a game but can't put all our resources in it so it make take a year or so". I get that and I would understand. Don't forget your old fans and the old IPs that helped you make your company what it is today. You know giving a nod the people who helped you to become what you are is respect. It's been 7 years since the last Sam and Max and Monkey Island maybe its time for another one. Hell even if it was a last one saying OK this is the last one we are going to make. Don't forget your old fans and customers. I have spend a lot of money on the old games even rebuying them on steam when you released them there as well.
Like I said I understand you have new IPs and new projects that is more main stream audience. But come on throw us a bone here. We do deserve some respect after all these years.

It probably doesn't help that Telltale doesn't own the rights to any of the classic franchises. While Sam & Max could be something renegotiated, you sure can kiss Monkey Island goodbye. That franchise is sealed in "The Vault"... probably forever.
I miss them too, little buddy.
They became telltale
The simple answer is telltale has evolved from an indie company to a corporate mainstream company. They value profit over quality and franchise profit over quality writing and passion. The transition of telltale has been more painfully apparent in the operation and function of telltale as stated by former and current employees.
Telltale is going downhill. I became a fan because TWD s1. Now I see that they are just copying their games (sometimes better usually not) but these are all copies. Telltale is using well known brands; GoT, Batman, Minecraft as a bait, while original projects are being rejected. Then they copy copies (sequels). This method will wear off soon.
I watched a cool game "Night in the Woods" recently. Not super realistic or advanced but with great characters and... original. I'd lock Telltale employees in one room, force them to play it and LEARN - this is "the way".
Not sure what happened to this Talltale, but on that topic, boy has Telltale sure made some dumbshit decisions lately.
Oh no.
you should play sam & max and Tales From monkey island. Really good games.
Sam and Max they can easily do again. Yes, it is sad about Monkey Island. I can understand that one.
The walking dead is also super popular
This is kind of a different discussion.. yet not really.
The change of that generation would be from Sam & Max Season 3 to Back To The Future. For the modern fans, we felt the same as a lot did about TWD season 2. Sure a lot of people liked it, but a lot of others felt it was off, not as good.
Then Jurassic Park just blindsided us.
It doesn't seem like there's a road to go back to anymore for adventure games at TTG. I wish they would prove me wrong. I do. With their modern style, I don't know if I'd want them touching some of those franchises again. I almost wish someone else would tackle them now.
Imo this is really good game. Even lack of voice actors wasn't a problem. NITW was INTERESTING. TWD on the other hand became painfully boring; weak zombies, evil leaders, unlimited ammo etc.
Night in the Woods has potential, I'll give it that. But I just really don't like it. (Not to mention the fanbase it spawned...)
And I don't really think Walking Dead got boring, it just the writing got really, really shitty.
They shrunk.
I'm with you there! My handle on these forums is named after a Sam & Max Season 1 feature. However, I don't think Telltale is headed back that direction anytime soon. They want to make games named after something every 10-year-old will recognize and don't make you think too hard.
If you want a new game that's written like a classic one, check out Thimbleweed Park. It's written by Ron Gilbert. I've started it, haven't finished it yet, but it's pretty good so far!
I've opened 'jobs' link at the menu bar and I wonder why are you looking for that much stuff? 30+ open positions is a LOT. Have you fired all of your employees or what?
I am worrying we might not see any sequels because of that...
It's because they all keep leaving. Have you seen the Glassdoor reviews for this company, a lot of them are negative and basically say that Telltale treats their employees as expendables.
Looked through the reviews after I'd read your comment...
Just waow, didn't know everything could be that bad.
And thanks for the reference, actually, that's pretty useful resource.
It's something I wish Telltale would consult every so often.
No, If it wan't for The Walking Dead S1, and later Wolf Among Us, they wouldn't be here today. Those are the two games that put Telltale on the map, and made them a more recognizable gaming company. I understand that people like their Sam and Max games of old, but they've moved on from those IP's. In short, what happend to Telltale is they got bigger, got more ips to make games off of, and moved on.
I am sorry maybe you don't understand the history of TellTale. Let me educate you. Telltale Games was founded by Connors, Bruner, and Molander, a group of former LucasArts employees who had been working on Sam & Max: Freelance Police, a to Sam & Max Hit the Road. It was canceled and they formed TellTale Games to make the next Sam & Max game. So if it wasn't for them getting the IP for Sam & Max they wouldn't have made the company to make it. So sorry you are not correct. It's was games like Sam & Max and Monkey Island that helped them get the contracts for the other games. So yes TellTale owns all they have to Sam & Max. You also should respect the people who are you fans bought the games and supported them to make more. Sorry that they got bigger and moved on is bullshit.
He was just saying that without TWD S1 and TWAU telltale would have never gotten super popular. Sam and Max made the company but TWD and TWAU got them really popular.
Nah I'm good. You can continue to whine about there not being a new sam and max game.
Ahh, Its what I figured you just opened your mouth before doing any research. A common problem with the Internet you talk now look up facts later. Or just talk about a subject you have clue about. Got it.
The company let the fame and money go to its head, but at least that hasn't happened to all of the employees.

my thought
Talltale became Shorttale
Force them to play Colony Wars Vengeance too on ps1 , to teach them how gameplay and choice can lead to real changements and choices
