Batman Season 1 on iOS gets performance update (and Ep 1 now free)

I just saw this on the Telltale News section:

Episode One of 'Batman - The Telltale Series' Is Now Free on iOS Following a Major Performance Update

Hey Batman fans! We're excited to announce that episode one of Batman - The Telltale Series is now available for free for all iOS users! We're also launching a free, comprehensive performance update today that provides significant technical improvements and should ensure the series runs smoothly on a broader range of iOS-based devices. iPhone and iPad players can begin their adventures today and not only enjoy a unique take on Batman canon, but also catch up on all the dramatic revelations and gut-wrenching decisions that brought us to season two.

My iPhone isn't recent enough for the minimum specs so I can't check for myself, but evidently the performance and graphics quality has been improved. Is anyone here able to give impressions? I'm curious to hear some direct impressions of what all they fixed.

Well I might download this. I never played the original IOS version so I’m not sure how I could compare them but I’ll try it.

Edit: so yeah I gotta say it runs really well (maybe even better than my Xbox one) I haven’t seen any frame rate drops or anything’s graphics look the same. Kind of strange how it took a year for this patch to come out.

It does? That's interesting. Is it closer to 30 FPS or 60 FPS (and which device are you using)?

I'd find out myself, but as I said, my iPhone doesn't meet the minimum specs as I own an older one. I'm just asking out of personal curiosity as I wanna see how notable the improvements are compared to older iOS gameplay footage I can find on YouTube.

  • I have an iPhone 6s running the IOS 11 beta (in case that matters). I replayed the entire first season on my Xbox right before the Enemy Within’s release and I usually got frame rate drops when switching scenes on Xbox. I played about 30 minutes of the ep and experienced no frame rate drops. The only technical issue I noticed is the audio sometimes was not syncing with mouth movements but other than that it ran pretty damn smooth props to telltale.

Last time I played the game on iOS, it must have been ran st PC lowest settings possible minus shadows.

Here I just made a quick clip see it for yourself

Edit: ok no idea why the screen is so small maybe I’ll try to crop that later. And the quality of the video is not what it looks like in game I’ll try to fix this.

Edit 2: I was able to fix the clip and make it longer by recording my phone while it was plugged into my computer

  • I imagine some of that is a combination of Telltale optimizing the game's assets for the mobile version, and also the result of less processing power being used since the game would be running on a smaller display resolution compared to a PC Monitor. Most iOS Devices don't run the game at as high of a resolution as a PC would.

  • That looks vastly improved compared to what I had heard about the initial mobile release. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity since I couldn't check firsthand. :)

The resolution was as low as 640x240. Anyways its a huge improvement, but no way it looks better than consoles.
