That’s when Telltale is at its best, when we have real control and agency for the player and
over the characters in the stories we tell. If you work with larger IP, you’re often very
restricted.
Of all the IPs, I think GoT is the biggest offender of this. So, you never know. I know nothing of current and future plans. They've never been allowed to discuss such.
*Edit: Though they plan to veer away from such properties, that also doesn't mean, cold turkey, things change NOW.

Adult comedy is a thing. Actually, a very popular thing right now, and I hope we do get something in the future.
Agree! Next year we've got TWD, a dark and dramatic tale of people surviving in the shell of a broken world. We've also got TWAU, a noir-crime thriller where the cozy outside hides some dangerous people. No one is to be trusted.
So far, those don't really fill the comedy category. I would love something that is light-hearted first and foremost, and not as a way to break tension. I found Guardians to be good, but its comedy was a lot more tame and restricted, mostly due to the franchise, and age demographic. TFTB had all the freedom it needed. Hopefully this secret third project next year is that*?
*By "that" I mean a comedy game, not Tales 2.

Unfortunately, I too thought of that immediately after reading it. I don't think they've scrapped it, but I could see them doing so. Maybe it would be better to only shape the Forresters' story in Season 2, without having it interact with the show's continuity too much. We all know how infuriating Ramsey Snow was.

I agree; this sounds like the better approach (aside from dropping any unfinished storylines resolved from Season 1, such as Malcolm having plans with Daenerys that were only ever teased in 105 and not resolved by the end of 106).
Telltale frequently tries to add in character cameos from the established franchise to "establish credibility" (and also add some marketing bullet points), but I think they should stick to when it is most vital to the story, such as Lilly in TWD Season 1, all of the characters in Wolf Among Us, or a few of the characters such as Jack and Athena in Tales.

I like the sound of this guy. He's dead right when he says that Telltale is at its strongest when creating original characters in an established universe. Hopefully Telltale will get back on track now.

I first assumed he meant Glenn as a pre-existing character, but I then read that Lilly was initially supposed to be the same character as the comics/tv, but that idea was scrapped before the game was finished(TTG had her character bio include such and then later deleted it... I did not know that).
I knew that, but I reckoned it didn't count as it was a scrapped idea, as it doesn't really matter that she was supposed to be someone she then wasn't.
She was supposed to be Lilly Caul from the comics I seem to recall.

Uhh, they actually are around two hours long. I haven't played any of Batman TEW, but every episode of ANF, MCSM 2, and GOTG that was released this year took around 100 to 120 minutes to finish for me.
Teach me your ways, because it barely took me an hour to finish the last episode of ANF. And the first two episodes, with me looking at everything, talking to everyone, and waiting for the timer to practically end before I picked my option, those were about an hour and 20 minutes each.

Watch my LP of ANF on my Youtube channel (Autobot Sonic - The Telltale Gamer). With all four parts combined, the episode took around an hour and forty five minutes to two hours to complete.

I hope Pete Hawley'll gives his teams enough time to finish and perfect each episode they make, instead of them being very rushed. Also, that he makes his developers happy. I think a new engine would definitely help that.
Earlier on around the time of the layoffs, it was mentioned that they will eventually be moving to a new engine.
Telltale still needs to release some titles in 2018 before they completely readjust their workflow, so don't expect the change in engine to happen during Wolf Among Us Season 2 or Walking Dead Season 4. Those titles will very likely still release on the Telltale Tool engine that the rest of their games currently use.

Shortly before/after the lay offs, Job Stauffer favorited a tweet from a member of the gaming press speculating that Telltale would eventually switch to Unity since someone who worked (or still works?) on Unity is on Telltale's board of Directors.

Not sure I’m happy about them moving away from games with more pre defined characters.
It was my familiarity with comic books and Batman in general that made me pick up the first Batman season. I’d more likely pick up a game where I already know the lead as opposed to a game with a character I don’t already know.
I'm pleasantly surprised with how honest and upfront he was, it is a nice change from how things have been. He actually seems in tune with fan feedback and was willing to admit to the company's shortcomings. Bravo.
For now, this all just PR speak to me and we're in the middle of a honeymoon phase after getting rid of a previous incompetent CEO. He's at least able to identify the problems Telltale has instead of ignoring them but I'm not convinced by what he says until I see results.
Telltale is at their best with characters you have to fill in the blanks...Think of Lee....we start out with him in the back of the squad car and all we know is he was in some mess with a senator and his wife....and not till late in the episode did we learn he killed the senator because he was shagging his wife. It then became up to use to decide what kind of man he was...scumbag Lee anyone? I played him as a tragic hero. However I want them to fill in the blanks when it comes to characters in your group or who your character knows...Season1 for the win.

He could have admitted to killing many people and telling where the bodies were and we would be happy with his fresh honesty. Proof is in the pudding as they say...hopefully he walks the walk.
I feel like my country just elected a fresh new president and know everyone isn't sure what to expect but they are genuinely excited for changes.
Me too. It sounds like the most honest and meaningful interview in a long time.
I definitely like the sound of this guy. Seems like they’ll be taking some good steps to improve the quality of their games in the future, and a wise choice in holding back on working on so many games at once; it’s what they’ve been needing to do for a while.
Definitely like too he mentioned about how the same type of game format has been used a lot, I wonder how much they’ll change it up in the future. But going back to what made TWDG season 1 so great really makes me happy and that we’ll hopefully get more gameplay elements. I swear if they could make a type of game that focused more on where you could explore room to room or area to area picking up items and speaking characters, it’d be so damn so cool. Heck maybe one day they won’t always have to do episodic and can just create a game. Imagine if they one day broke the fixed camera angle rule and did stuff first person or over the shoulder.
That question has been answered many, many, many times. The first season was way too costly to make and the ball is in Gearbox's court, not Telltale's. So even if we got a second season it probably wouldn't be the same quality, which could be disappointing.
The real question we need to ask is whether we are actually going to get GoT s2. There has been almost complete silence on it for years and now I'm not sure if it will happen with Telltale focusing on new IP's.
I've yet to see them outright say no to the idea. Just that the next borderlands game would be from gearbox. Are they opposed to it after borderlands 3?

I dont think they are necessarily opposed to the idea, but they aren't rushing out to make it either. TFTBL was well received but also incredibly costly, it will be a daunting task for Telltale to do the first season justice while not spending as much money. I think their stance on it right now is to wait and see whether the characters are utilized in Borderlands 3 and then see what Gearbox wants to do from there. I personally think we will get more TFTBL story in BL3 but i doubt Telltale will return to the series themselves.

Well they said the same thing about TWAU and look, we're getting season 2 later this year! I do agree that TFTBL Season 2 is definitely not a primary concern for Telltale right now, but maybe by 2020 we could see a season 2 from them?

So big licensed games as Games of Thrones will be pulled off? :-(
No season 2?
Damn cliffhanger, ruined the whole game.
They never explicitly said as much, so I wouldn't panic.

Didn't they hint that they might be switching over to Unity on social media? Or am I misremembering?

That someone would be their CEO, John Riccitiello.
