Will Telltales upcoming games in 2018 use the Unity Engine?
This may seem a silly question to those who may already know the answer to my question but will Telltales upcoming titles The Walking Dead The Final Season and Wolf Among Us Season Two use the Unity Engine? I know that Telltale plan to use the Unity Engine and they are even looking for people who have experience with the engine in the jobs section of the website. I am sorry if I posted in the incorrect Forum however I was just curious as to what engine these new games will be using.

No proof of this, but on the telltale discord server I run a guy posted a picture of Wolf 2 claiming it ran on unity. I only saw it for a second before it was deleted, so no idea if it's real. Once again, I can't find anything in the logs, so I have NO proof of this, so you'll have to just take this guys word.

I cannot imagine Telltale will switch to Unity until, at the earliest, 2019 or later. Switching to a new engine generally takes an extended amount of time as the developers have to relearn the toolsets, workflow, etc. You don't just do something as big as using an entirely new engine at the flip of a switch.
Although nothing has been openly commented on yet, I would presume that Walking Dead Season 4 and Wolf Among Us Season 2 will both run on Telltale's engine. If you expect to see Telltale games running on Unity, I would wait until 2019 or later onward.

Switching engines presents issues with compatibility as well. I can't see them starting on an existing franchise. However, after an initial entry, I could see them returning to a franchise on the new engine. I would agree with the 2019 guess. I'll say that they will have (at least)announced the franchise that will debut before the end of 2019.

I've been checking Telltale's jobs page for a while -- y'know just to see what's been going on hiring-wise after the layoffs, and finally something has changed.
There's only 2 spots open now, one of which I haven't seen before.

Yeah I saw it too! I thought that maybe it was a sign for a new engine for Walking Dead The Final Season. However it may also mean that they may be looking for someone with experience who can give the dev teams a broader understanding of the engine and how it works.
They are definitely switching to Unity at some point into the foreseeable future - it just won't be immediately while Wolf and Walking Dead are happening. Those games were already too close to release when Telltale decided to switch engines to Unity. Those games are planned to premiere around Summer and Fall of 2018, whereas Telltale only decided to switch engines around the late end of 2017/early start of 2018.
As I said in the post above - switching engines/technology takes a longer time. A small handful of months is not enough time for Telltale to be able to fully retrain all 250+ of their staff members to work with Unity, have their engineers create tools or plugins for the Unity engine to recreate Telltale style games, train developers to work with the special tools/plugins that the engineers made, get a workflow set up where the developers and episode writers know what the new engine is and is not capable of this early on, and still be able to release Walking Dead and Wolf in Summer/Fall of 2018.
I would speculate that only around 2019 at the earliest will we see Telltale games use Unity.

Thank you for taking the time to type a reply! I am sorry for my lack of understanding of Game Engines. I do think that they have improved the Telltale Tool in Batman: The Enemy Within. I have not encountered or seen any technical glitches compared to say Walking Dead: A New Frontier (I love the game but the technical bugs are one of my dislikes towards the game) and Batman Season One. I feel that the Unity engine may provide a bit more stability to the games which may provide a smoother experience for players.

(I don't really want to be adding to this discussion too much as if it's the best thing in the world -- hyping it up and all that -- because we know they're going to do it, they just haven't switched yet.) For anyone interested in this change of engines, and wants more details, I've got a new thing:
They've begun to look for Gameplay Designers, specifically for the Unity engine. At no point do they mention Maya or the Telltale Tool, so... yeah.
Using TWD Michonne as a guide. We may see a Partial shift to the new engine with TWD, and a FULL shift with TWAU. However that doesn't necessarily mean that the Comic book style is going away any time soon. LiS shifted between engines but the overall LOOK remained the same for the most part. Only the quality improved a bit.

I agree...moving to a new engine is not easy...you have to write a new set of item libraries that fill your games...also figuring out what the engine can and cannot do takes time...2019 sounds right.
