Visual Arts? or Music?

If you were given the option to choose only 1 between the two talents, which talent would you rather be inclined with - Music? or Visual Arts?

  • I'd say visual art. I already have a deep appreciation for music. Why not widen the spectrum with some gained expertise in the unexplored field?

  • if you chose Visual Art, you'll loose your musical talent. you can only choose 1 between the 2 as the title description suggests

  • I would choose music. I love drawing but I love music more.

Well I never really made music anyways. :D The last time I tried that was when when I first went on the Beepbox servers, and it was quite... mediocre. And if you're saying that I lose my ability to whistle, too. FOCK NO GIBME MY MUSIC BAK

  • But I really like both of them! Can't I be greedy and just pick both?

Okay, fiiiiine... If I had to choose one, for the sake of your question, I'd have to go with music. I can become completely immersed in a song where I experience a short-lived escape from reality. Everything else fades away into the distance until there is only me and the music. Music can penetrate my soul and evoke emotions more directly than visual arts.

Sometimes though, I feel that music can be too intense to the point where I can't concentrate on anything else but the song. It can hijack my full attention . Once it has taken ahold and shackled me, the contemplation of escape becomes a laughable fantasy. The rhythmic sound waves mockingly dance in the empty space between my ears. My only hope of escape is mercy. Or to turn the radio off. But in the case of public locations, that's not much of a choice.

Clearly I'm exaggerating here. But on second thought, perhaps the clarity of exaggeration became neglected in the spell of my fatigue? Nevertheless, I feel, with no hint of delusion, that I have clearly defined my point without straying too far from the subject matter. I'm very certain you'd agree, yes?

    Interesting question by the way.

  • Visual art, so I could draw all the exotic places and characters in my imagination.

Visual arts cos I’m one of those people who finds art in everything

  • Ah man this is hard. I'm not ready to give either up, even though I'm pretty terrible at both. (I'm trying to get good at drawing, but I'm already okay at making good improv beats with a piano. Can't use both hands separately for shit though.)
Here, I'll give you a compromise. The following are two possible realities where I choose each path. No way I'm choosing just one in this reality. ;)

    Music:
Well, I'd say I'm better at making music than I am at drawing. I've got good rhythm, I have some lingering knowledge of music lessons from my early childhood, but I've mostly just done whatever I found possible when I came in contact with an instrument. When I was very young, every time we'd go my uncle and aunt's for a family dinner, I'd hammer away at the piano, trying different rhythms, beats, notes... It was fun, and I think I did okay. If I were to acquire a better sense of this talent, I'd opt for using the violin. It's always been a dream instrument of mine, but I never got into it.

    Visual Art:
At the moment, I'm drawing whenever it suits me. It's something I'd like to get better at, and something that I think can lead me in interesting directions later in life. I don't have a lot of good work under my belt right now, there's a lot of scrapped drawings, but it's a talent I'd like to have. Drawing from real-life is where I'm best (since that has things you can compare to), but there's plenty of original ideas and designs of characters I have that I can clearly see in my head, but when I put it on paper it looks nothing like it. My hands just don't seem to cooperate with my imagination.

As for ME? I'm keeping both for now...
