Violet is a terrible lookout

She's watching the door... for some reason, (I guess walkers open doors now), but she doesn't see Abel walk into the station? What?

  • She let the plot walk into the station otherwise the game won't be interesting -- that's how it picks up tension, otherwise them all running to safety wouldn't make for an exciting scene. That's just how it is, you'll pick up on things that don't seem logical from an audiences point of view -- but from a writing standpoint I guess some things go unnoticed. It does sound silly, but I suppose she didn't want to endanger herself? But then again, how would she let Clem and AJ know of anyone coming in? Which again, there's no reason for her not to join Clem and AJ, but I think it's just an overall narrative decision. The game wants you to spend as much time alone with AJ as possible, for a reason we'll uncover eventually.

  • Yeah I was thinking that. How the fuck did nobody see this sketchy dude just walk in lol

  • I have a theory regarding that. I think that she saw the dude coming from like around the back but she neither could've warn Clementine as she'd expose herself or stop the guy because then she might've attracted the walkers attention and potentially risk the rest of the group. We see her appear in the room after dealing with Abel so I assumed she tried to sneak in, like Clementine did, and probably ambush the guy while he was focused on us.

  • Hey, cut her some slack. As @Rose-Davies so eloquently put it, Father Plot is undefeated.

  • Yeah, waitaminute...

  • Technically she said she was going to lookout for Walkers not humans. Clem should have been more specific.

While it would have been good to get an actual explanation for this, Abel could have distracted her. You know, throw a rock or make a noise and get Violet to go and check it out, then quickly sneak inside while she's distracted.

Actually, this topic just made me think of something else: how did the bandits in S1 invade the motor inn? Ben was standing watch, and everyone else was outside, and would have been able to clearly see the bandits. How'd they manage to jump the fence and get all of them to stand down and surrender without at least one person noticing?

  • Yeah, that's a question I was wondering about a while back
    Forget teleporting walkers

    Ben was standing watch,

And I think you just answer your question.

    I'm with @Tewudin and @Deltino

There are two entrances to access the train station. In the scene we're talking about, Clem can only take the one by the contaminated water barrels. It's highly plausible that after Abel is drawn by dinner bell ringing Louis, he performed recon & saw Violet and decided to sneak in using the secondary access stairs by the tire swing.

As for the Motor Inn, traitor Ben was probably thinking they were just coming to collect their package & be on their merry way. It wasn't until they saw there wasn't one when the signal was given to invade, I'd guess. Although we'll never know, since Ben assumed the Bandits still had his friend, perhaps he was going to go full traitor and let the Bandits kill everyone except him in exchange for his friend? We'll never know, but if they ever were to pull something like that off, they had their inside guy in Ben.

Pretty sure if he told Lee that, he would've been thrown off the train without hesitation. 4 lives snuffed out to spare one of the crappiest TWDG characters to ever exist.

  • Whatchu talkin' 'bout 2 entrances? There's only one entrance into the train station. My Clem and AJ even make it a point to look for other entrances when they first find the place since that's what I chose as the second thing they do after looking for walkers, "look for a way out." The door we pried open and entered through is verbally established as the only entrance.
