  • He's actually pretty cool now

  • I’m happy AJ shot him because if he didn’t I would have got clem to kill him the first chance I got

  • Wait? There were AJ haters? How do you hate a baby? ...Like... He literally did nothing to be hated?

  • People on the internet can and will hate on anything

  • It's funny I hated him as a baby, but once he shot Marlon I gave him a standing ovation.

  • I don't see any reason to hate him

  • Exactly and plus he grew up in the apocalypse it’s not his fault he doesn’t know right from wrong he just listens to what clem says to him

AJ is honestly one of the most interesting characters in TWD period. I've always had a soft spot for him but now that he is a full fledged character I'm really starting to love him. He is easily both the most adorable and terrifying little boy I have seen in a fictional story.

People hated him because he was a plot device. Now he’s a fully fleshed out complex character.

It wasn't him I hated per se. It was the fact that my Clem was stuck with him and I had no say. I just wanted to dump him somewhere. But now that I know he's a killing machine he's cool.

  • i don't hate him, i just don't like what he did

  • Agreed. I don't like what he did by the end. But I'm excited to see if we'll get to teach him that it was wrong.

  • I don't hate him, but I dislike the actions he took against Marlon and the way he was being selfish with Tenn's toys. I've always preferred talking and kindness over violence.

  • Keep in mind this guy was born into the apocalypse, this stuff has to be taught to him, he still doesn't know better. All his life's been is running from monsters.

  • Omg, right?! I did find the toy thing obnoxious! I was like dude, did he ever say you could have that? Didn't we just go through a 'that box isn't yours so you should give it back,' thing? How did he not learn from that? It didn't make sense how he acted when he grabbed that toy. Like I've seen kids argue like that over toys and stuff but at a younger age, like the 'just learned to walk and talk' age.

  • I let him keep the art supplies because at least Violet gave him permission in that situation. Him just taking Aasim's journal and Tenn's toys were a no no for me.

  • Does it still kinda seem like out of the blue? Or does it kinda fit? For me, because I didn't let him keep that box, it seemed random and odd.

  • Kids fight over toys, yes even at AJ's age. I'm pretty sure sharing toys with other kids is not something that was at the top of the priority list when it came to teaching AJ how to survive in this world. Not to mention the fact that it's not like AJ has been around a lot of other kids his age. If the toy thing is enough to bother you, then I'm just going to assume you've never had kids.

  • I also let him have the supplies and yeah, it did feel in place when he wanted to keep the toy. I immediately felt like it was because of the art box thingy.

You'd be wrong in that assumption. I spent a lot of the episode teaching him to be respectful and not to bite, hit, read other people's things, etc. all before the toy incident. Some of that should have gotten through to him by that point.

  • Yeah. Kinda seems like my choice not to let him have the box was meaningless, like why was it there if he wasn't gonna learn to not just take someone's toys?

  • Right? And when I saw him standing up ready to fight Tenn for it? Whoa dude you gotta calm down! I was so happy I had the choice of giving it back to Tenn.

  • So much for AJ's 'I'm a big boy, don't call me goofball!' lol

  • His father is Carver. It's in his blood to do fucked up shit.

  • I am only human afterall :pensive:

But I still think that's part of the whole point of having these small moments such as sharing toys, privacy, etc. Those are things that the average kid will learn about as they grow. For AJ it's all stuff that until this point was irrelevant and as such he was never taught some of these basic things. That's where Clem comes in, the parent figure, who must teach him right from wrong(or not...). Fighting over toys, trying to read Aasim's diary, not initially getting along with other children, etc. All that stuff is understandable coming from a child like AJ, he didn't yet know any better.

  • At least he is his own character now and not some plot device dragging Clementine down like he used to be. At least now I can start making choices that don't benefit him all the time.

  • I remember many people and even myself at times hating him because he'd cry and alarm walkers in season 2 but it wasn't really his fault of course. He sure was a pain in the ass though lol. I remember clem having to hush him a few times to avoid death.

In this game I like him quite a bit, he loves Clem which is enough for me but I am disappointed with him shooting an unarmed man. We need to keep morality in the group or nothing seperates the bandits from us.

  • I agree. I spent the whole game being a good mommy clem to AJ and I wish it mattered more at the end there. I didn't kill the walker couple because I wanted AJ to realize that even though they are dead now, they were people at one point and it's best to honor their wishes. I didn't let him read homeboy's diary, that woulda been a prick thing to do especially since we were so new there. I made him apologize to both Marlon and the fat chick. I made him give the toy and art supplies back. I let him pay respects to the grave. Told him to sleep on the bed. Didn't let him shoot the bandit.

Why have all these plot options to parent him in a good direction, just for him to shoot Marlon through the brain John Wayne style? I wish if you teach AJ the wrong way and don't descipline him then he shoots Marlon but if you teach him the right way maybe Tenn or Mitch does or something. Woulda been cool to see that parenting play a role. But I guess we'll see if they make your mom decisions matter more later.

  • Yeah. So much of what AJ did irritated me because it didn't line up with what I was teaching him. Basically no decision I made accounted to anything. He obviously has learned nothing.

  • Maybe there will be an epilogue where we see him showing what he's learnt from Clem

  • AJ was always a badass, nuff said

  • Shooting people aside, the little guy gave me some nasty Carver vibes when he called the police weak.

  • From what I could tell, all AJ wants is to protect Clem, just as she does for him. He says he wants to sleep under the bed so he can watch over and protect her. Also his drawing says “me protecting Clem” so I think in his mind Marlon was a threat to Clem’s safety.

  • It was one of the cringiest things I've ever seen back during S2. People legitimately hating him and begging Telltale to let them abandon him to the walkers and stuff. It really turned me off of the Telltale community for awhile. Like, imagine if they'd felt that way when Lee found Clem.

  • While the thing he did in the end is... questionable, I've still grown attached to AJ and enjoyed taking care of him. For such a small kid, he actually has a personality.

  • To be honest people Aj for being a plot device now hes an actual character I doubt people hate him that much
