TWD S4 Ep1 ...thoughts

Well so episode 1 dropped this past Monday night. Was there ever an episode that Telltale released that had so much riding on it?

This would be really the first test of the New Telltale really. And it would answer a question, was Telltale even able to produce a good episode of TWD any more.

The open wound that was ANF had helped make the forums a battleground...there was a lot of finger pointing...and one assumes the behind the scenes issues that Telltale was going through just added to the gloom.

So S4 Ep1 The Finale Season(?)
Lets get the bad out of the way....a couple of characters could have used a few more background building talks...Brody...I do understand what her deal was...She felt guilt and wanted to tell Violet...but knowing that Violet had switched with one of the girls who were taken...she couldn't . She needed a lil more background ...as it was I still felt bad for her, she did not deserve to die...and it is even worse when you reflect that these are still teenagers.

Why is it that in games you can kick open doors that open the opposite way? I saw what you did guys lol.

The end was a little rushed...not a deal breaker in the least, but a little regrettable when put next to how well everything was flowing in the episode.

I am not going to nitpick because we have a thread about that already...so here is The good.

Clem is back! And Telltale produced perhaps their best episode of TWD ever!
The love of the craft of art and story telling is very evident in this episode. I always thought that Telltale had some damn fine artists in their department...this season proves that if anything they had been holding themselves back because of mobile releases. This game is beautiful in that comic book way they were aiming for. If they had added a black and white option to the graphics...I think it would be almost exactly like watching The Comic Book come to life.

The writing and the willingness to build up backstories for characters pays off. Louis is a charming individual that is as lovable as Gabe was annoying. Violet's rough exterior hides a gentle human being and they handle her so well. If you had told me before this season that a school full of teens was going to be potentially one of Telltales biggest achievements in the entire series...I would have laughed in your face. I am not laughing now....but I am damn well smiling at how good this is.

Telltale listened to us. TWD is about people and their lives...with terror thrown in even measures....not some kill-a-zombie game. And as always...the real monsters are humans. How Marlon could look at himself in a mirror after trading those girls for his safety...it disgusts me and at the same time...so fucking believable. Brody was right when she told Clem that Clem was stronger than Marlon...he was a coward and folded. Clem would never have done what he did. I would like to think I would be as strong as Clem...but how can you know...how can you know if in Marlon's situation, you would not fold and let those girls be taken...hell you get to keep your life and others are safe? It is a tough situation. But for Clem, there would have been no way she would have done that.

Telltale has crafted a really cracking story and I cannot wait for episode 2...hopefully it is a long episode as well and hopefully the quality is maintained...This is perhaps the best send off the Telltale Tool deserves...as they move to Unity...I cannot wait to see what the art department can realize with it.

Thank you Telltale, you have done right by your fans with this season so far.

  • a couple of characters could have used a few more background building talks...

Yeah, that's how it tends to go. Especially with this many established characters, which I think may exceed that of Season 1.

Brody...I do understand what her deal was...She felt guilt and wanted to tell Violet...She needed a lil more background ...as it was I still felt bad for her, she did not deserve to die...and it is even worse when you reflect that these are still teenagers.

Yeah, I called she'd die when she was just sitting with Marlon with little establishment and interaction.
    Shame.

but knowing that Violet had switched with one of the girls who were taken...she couldn't .

    Say what now?

Why is it that in games you can kick open doors that open the opposite way? I saw what you did guys lol.

    Cause it's more impressive?

The end was a little rushed...not a deal breaker in the least, but a little regrettable when put next to how well everything was flowing in the episode.

Yeah, the third day was, like, 21 or so minutes compared to about an hour for the first two.

    Clem is back!

    Meh.

this season proves that if anything they had been holding themselves back because of mobile releases.

    Huh...that's a concept.

    Telltale listened to us.

    That's fair.

Well, with 2+ hours of introductions and a cast almost exclusively made of teens, they and the fanbase kinda had no excuse.

TWD is about people and their lives...with terror thrown in even measures....not some kill-a-zombie game.

    Damn straight.

Clem would never have done what he did. Easy to say when you have other people to do dumb and/or assholish shit, making you look better by default.

    Mm-hm.

  • Violet was supposed to go with Marlon and Brody the day the twins were given away. She asked to switch duties and so the twins went instead and what happened happened. You learn this if you go fishing.

No Violet switched with Brody not either one of the twins. She was suppose to go with Marlon and the twins.
