Why Are Guns Taboo at Ericson's?

They're literally the only one's without them. Why let the entire world 1-up you on guns, especially when they're easy to come by?

  • Because they're loud and children can easily hurt themselves or others with them?

  • I honestly think they just dont have any, they never leave that little patch of forest

  • Its a "No gun zone"

  • Honestly, everyone there except for Willy and Tenn are teens, and know how to act. They're not AJ.... :D

  • Think smart not hard, gun fire attracts lots of noise.

  • They've gotten more than their fair share of attention without them. It's better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them.

  • Probably due to the risk of of drawing far more attention then they can afford. Not to mention they have a fairly efficient trap system in place along with being relatively well hidden away.

  • I'm inclined to agree. One of the things Clem can say when asked what Lee taught her is "how to shoot a gun," to which Marlon replies it's a useful skill.

I think because they don't stray far from the school they just haven't found any. Then again, maybe we'll learn they have an armory in case they need it, get attacked, but they don't use them for every day hunting or walker clearing. Which if you think about it, that makes perfect sense. Very few people have the equipment and materials needed to hand load ammo, and it certainly wouldn't be found at a school. Ammo will be rare and hard to find. Better to save it for human threats, if someone tried to attack the school, than waste it killing walkers or hunting wabbits.

  • The attention they have now is more than enough of a reason to own guns. Hell, their little sanctuary isn't a secret.

  • See my reply above yours. Maybe in episode 2 we'll learn they have a stash of guns in case they need them, they just don't use them on walkers or wabbits.

  • Yeah this. I can't imagine there were any guns when it first collapsed, and I bet the kids were too scared to go find them, not knowing how to get them to work.

Plus, they got bows and traps now. Seeing as they have very minimal contact with other humans, they probably don't feel they need any guns.

That's just about to change, my friend

It's 8-9 years into the apocalypse bullets are becoming scarce. I also doubt that they would keep an arsenal of loaded weapons for a school full of troubled kids to break into.

  • I wouldn't say it's easy to find guns or bullets, especially if you're just a bunch of kids in a zombie-infested world.

If it was easy, why wouldn't Clem have a trunk full of them? Why wouldn't AJ have a gun on both hips?

Of course, as others have said, can guns attract zombies for MILES, so it would be stupid to use guns around your stronghold unless you have a shit-ton of ammo.

  • Everyone at the school gets along for the most part. No one's a threat to anyone.

  • Guns are loud and noisy, a perfect way to draw walker's towards you. Not to mention, since these are kids with no real gun training, they don't really want to risk fatal accidents.

My comment had nothing to do with whether or not these kids trusted each other.

My point is that this place was originally a school and schools don't carry an arsenal of loaded weapons because they don't want kids to get a hold of them. A school for troubled youth would be even more cautious when it came to this. Most if not all of these kids have been at this school since the beginning of the apocalypse. Seeing that this is a school and not a military base any guns these kids might have obtained would have been scaveneged from other places. From what we know these kids haven't scouted that far from the school and there is no way they would have found enough bullets to last 8-9 years. Hence why they use weapons such as spears, knives, and bows. Things that don't run out or are easily renewable.

Well... I mean, except for Marlon. Turns out he was a threat to everyone. What with Brody and all... :D
But I think its more of that guns weren't really something they could find? their space is limited to a safe zone so they don't go far for supplies and stuff.
