The Grenade
Why did a grenade magically spawn right after we found the food? Was the house sabotaged/had some kind of booby traps or was Abel the one to blame?

you can see the grenade when you open the trap door if you look closely, as well as the sounds "cling" , idk why it takes so long to fall
The hatch was rigged where if you were to lift it upward, the grenade would separate from the pin, and causes it to drop.
As other people noted, it was indeed a booby trap. You might notice that when you open the hatch, there's a bit of rope tied to it. And when you complete the QTE, you can hear the grenade's pin get pulled.
I think the general consensus is that the couple in the train station are the ones who set the trap, most likely to punish bandits/scavengers that killed them and/or tried to steal their food.
*Grenade
Thanks for letting me know, gonna fix the typo right away
Well if it was originaly planned to be rigged or some sort of booby trap then that would’ve been the most random/useless thing the story has offered, didn’t cuase any problem and we still got the food.
I dunno, TellTale wouldn’t put a random scene in there unless it has something to do with a person or a group we might meet in the next episodes
Well, besides the fact that it attracted walkers to the train station, forcing Clem and AJ to fight their way out, which led to the car crash, which led to Marlon finding and saving the two of them. And the explosion is also most likely why Abel eventually found his way to the train station as well.
It actually did do quite a bit story-wise.
Lol It did actually move the plot, completely forgot about that thanks for reminding me xd.. but it was still weird they couldve introduce the school kids in another way that that.
Still, why would the couple put a grenade?
That is a very valid question. Why would the couple booby trap the supplies that were left with them before poisoning themselves? It's one thing to decide it's time to end it all, and an entirely different one to decide to take out anyone you can with you.
Perhaps the situation leading up to the couple deciding they would die together holding hands involved more than simply walkers or an unfortunate natural death. It could be that the nearby raiders rang the bell, came to them friendly, and while demanding food unpleasant things occurred. Their child could have been taken from them like the twins were from the school, or killed. The trap could have been meant for the raiders should they return.
Granted, this is very as those bandits would've probably returned a lot sooner, and Able claimed to have followed the noise that Louis had made.
I mean, maybe they did have a reason, but obviously, we can't exactly ask them on account of them being dead. Or double dead, depending on what you did.
Honestly, it's probably just a giant 'fuck you' to anyone that found it: try to steal our food? Here's a grenade. And if that grenade didn't kill you, it destroyed all the food too. Suck it.
I mean, if they decided they'd rather die together, they probably didn't have much hope for the rest of humanity, right?
...
Yeah you’re probably right that is a valid question, should’ve made the thread about instead of the grenade being there oh well
I think we will know more about the couple in the next episodes and I’m happy I let them live instead of killing them because I think the ones who chose to kill them in the beginning will likely regret it lol.. maybe related to one of the kids?
The couple rigged their supplies to punish thieves. They assumed that to get to the trap door, you'd have to kill them first to get the keys, disrespecting their final wish. Also note that there's an empty crib, so maybe after losing their child and killing themselves as a result, they didn't even consider the possibility of a living child finding the train station and crawling through the ticket booth. So in their eyes the key could only be got by killing them.
You can hear the grenade pin being pulled, but tbf it makes no sense why the grenade only fell to the ground five seconds later, or that it rolled in from some random direction.
That grenade trap is kind of weird.
Why do you even care to protect your resources if you are committing suicide? Kinda selfish if you ask me.
I would gladly share my resources to anyone who is still alive out there, it's unlikely I will be able to bring food with me in the afterlife.
The writing here was a bit wonky, they just needed something to draw in loads of walkers for that intro scene, that's why.
It would’ve been so much better if there was a claymore under the hatch instead of the grenade. Or better yet, a bouncing betty
crouch to avoid the bouncing betty just like bo2
I can hear the cling sound, but cannot see the grenade drop. If the grenade was tied to a string that's attached to the metal floor door, its pin would have not been pulled out, when Clem opens it. It would just dangle at the end of the string. Only possible way is if, the grenade is secured, and pulling the string forces the pin to come out and the grenade to tumble and roll, from its original location, which is why you see it randomly appearing from no where.
You can already see the genade if you brighten up your screen
The walker couple were complete assholes. They could have just left the food out for whoever found it with the note saying "take whatever you want, just don't kill us plz" but instead they hid their food, left the key on their walker corpse, and left the food rigged with a fucking grenade. Scumbags.
Indeed, this is the reason I stabbed their heads with a knife.
Already did, even did a game recording and analyze it frame by frame. Cannot see any grenade.
Now if you can post a screenshot of that grenade before opening the floor door, that would be great.
