And then they bought into it anyway.
Plus, Mariana was shallow, boring, and redundant on her own anyway. Should've either made a story that was actually about the Garcias or left her out entirely.

Anyway, yes, while part of me still vouches for the idea and wasted potential of that determinant scene, I agree that the execution absolutely sucks and unfortunately reinforces a reason why it's been increasingly hard to truly care much about these games anymore. Namely, that they're far more interested in making big, shocking, and/or controversial moments happen for the sake of getting reactions from the audience, but without fully earning/deserving it, thinking through what they inherently mean in/for the bigger picture, or really even making much sense in context of the gameplay story integration.
Case in point, that scene actually renders itself more or less pointless, as not only were there a number of ways the "payoffs" could've still happened, but the gameplay eventually forgets it even happened. And really, when a scene like that happens regardless of how positive or negative my relationship and choices with the character(s) involved all for the sake of making a single [major] choice "matter," then why I should I care about it and to an exent the gameplay system at all?
