Why are walkers so abnormally tall in TFS?

edited September 2018 in The Walking Dead

Clem has grown into a mature woman now and she definitely can't just be short, she must have an average adult female height. Nevertheless, nearly every walker seems to tower over Clementine so much, that, those walkers must be at least 1.9 m, if not 2 m,

like these two walkers:

or even this one:

Or even this: Clementine is barely taller than these two walkers even though they're sitting!

  • I don't think Clem is that tall, Marlon is taller than her and about as tall as the walkers.
Seems pretty normal to me. She's just ~17 don't expect her to be as tall as grown adults

Man I just want Telltale to at some point finally reveal the actual heights of the characters, at least of Clem. Because from some perspectives she looks short, from other ones close to Louis's and Marlon's height, so it's just difficult to tell how tall she is.
Like I seriously don't get it, e.g. in this picture, if she were to just extend her legs like Louis, she'd be basically as tall as Louis:

But then here she's like 10 cm shorter:

Can someone explain how tf does this work?

  • Well, our average male, for all races, is 5'9.5" (~177 cm) and our average Caucasian male is 5'10" (~178 cm). If you were 190 cm in the U.S. (~6'3"), you would be taller than 97 percent of all men. So, yeah, 190 cm is pretty damn tall in my country. We are far from a tall people, lmao.

  • You pretty much stop growing at around 18-20 if you're a male, and probably around 16-18 if you're a female. I think it's safe to say all the noticeably older kids are at fully grown adult height.

The funny thing about you mentioning the kids not being big is that I did some height calculations a while ago for a bunch of characters in ANF, and found a lot of the main characters to be skyscrapers. For example, Kate was a 5'11 female; that's way above the average female height of 5'4.5". I've estimated Clem's height to be about 5'4" in TFS and 5'1" in ANF , so just slightly below average for a fully grown female in the U.S for her TFS size.

I don't think Clem is that tall, Marlon is taller than her and about as tall as the walkers. Seems pretty normal to me. She's just ~17 don't expect her to be as tall as grown adults

  • Always think it's hilarious when I see these really buffed Americans on TV and then realise most of them are no taller than my shoulders.

The latter picture is a much more accurate representation of Clem's height relative to Louis's. It's the relative position of the characters to one another relative to where the camera is as well as the camera distance that matters. For instance, in the first picture, Clem is in front of Louis and fairly close to him, while being also closer to the camera. Because she's more in the foreground and Louis is more in background, this creates the illusion that Clem is larger and taller than she actually is. In the second picture, both of them are at about the same distance away from the camera and in the same plane; therefore their actual relative heights are much more accurate.

  • cuz they kids and the walkers are grown adults

  • So being 6'2" is short to you? How tall are you?

  • Clementine is only like 17 years old and hasn't reached her max height just yet + most of the walkers died during the early days of the outbreak which means they reached their max height s easily. Also, not to mention Clem probably hasn't had normal height grow due to the conditions she's been living in. For example she hasn't had proper nutrition due to the obvious lack of food.

Living in a zombie apocalypse tends to change norms.

  • She’s a shawty, that’s why. And in the region she’s at, there’s mostly tall people.

  • Because they're titan zombies

  • 1.9m would be less than six feet

  • It's distance. One is far away so, both looks to be the same height. Up close and you'll see their true height.

  • Clementine's always been one of if not THE shortest character among the cast in every Season before this one. And even in this one, where there are a handful of younger kids around, Tenn is still not that much shorter than her.

  • Oh...well, at least Pluto is still a planet

  • Sometimes, the sizes, perspectives, and eyelevels of characters will change depending on the angle, distance, and "feeling" the shot is going for.
For example, despite seeming like being around the same height, Kenny and Carlos will often be depicted as shorter than Lee and Luke respectively. Meanwhile, large characters like Larry and Tripp will sometimes look far taller up close than they do from afar because they're meant to feel at a higher scale in personal conversations.

  • Clementine is 16 in episode 1 of S4. Her age is confirmed by Melissa Hutchinson so she is definitely not an adult. Comparing her height to the height of walkers (who we can assume are an adult male) we'll say age 20 - 50 have an average height of 1.76m compared Clementine who is 16. The average height of a 16 year old female is 1.68m. So I'd say the walkers are a fair height above Clementine.

  • To answer the question: Duh', obviously it's because they wanted walkers to seem like an imposing threat that was fearsome, so by having them tower over Clem in fights, the player would have a sense of worry and potentially fear. From there, it's essentially a copy and paste. I must say, even if they auren't actually scary, these walkers are the most fearsome we've ever had.
Btw, what's up with these discussions that seem like they're hinting at lore i.e. ''Glass Eyes Portfolio'' but are really just mechanical issues. Heterochromia is likely not of symbolism, but I won't dismiss the theory either.
