Why is TFS so cheap tho?
Don't bulli meh, but I honestly think that Telltale could've made TFS 25 dollars instead of 20, despite there only being 4 episodes, which mind you, are probably going to be 2 hours in length and either way we already got a feature-length episode with up to 2h 30m gameplay, the longest Telltale episode.
And I don't think it would be as bad as, say, removing rewind. LiS 2 is 40 dollars. What actually constitutes a game for being high-priced/who decides the price and how do they decide? Each LiS episode is 8 dollars but hypothetically are they allowed to make the game 45 dollars?
I'm uneducated on this, so please explain if you know.

I have no clue
Oh, and Telltale still have a lot of developers, so is this one game for 9+ months for a whole company that is independant enough? I hear their wages auren't that high but that's just hearsay.
I think Telltale is trying to get some good will back from the fans after the debacle that was season 3, also LiS 2 isn't worth 40 bucks, selling it at that price is a bad joke.
...Wait, I'm confused--how much is each episode?
5 dollars?
Really now?
Huh.
Eh, I guess it's just because 5 dollars feels neater and Telltale got a bunch of other popular IPs to fall back on anyway.
I'm just a bit confused as to how that is good enough for a 300 person studio. Theoretically, let's use 30,000 as a lower average, that means that at the very least 9 million dollars would be needed to fullfill the company's needs, bearing in mind there is no publisher, it's an independant studio. And I would say that the maximum sales for TFS would be 300,00 copies sold (it's probably a lot more than that) it would just about make the cut.
I really shouldn't speak like this, it's just that I have no clue how this works and how there have been no games since TFS for nearly six months. Appreciate the generosity Telltale, and I hope you're hugely successful.
Didn't they fire a whole bunch of employees a while back?
They had about 400 employees and 1/4 of them was fired.
Well, I'm BR and the game for me here is not cheap 71 $ .... you're lucky the dollar is better than the real
....
It’s not a multiplayer game, maybe?
Hold up, if I went to BR with 20 dollars, how many reals would I get in the currency exchange?
I think you would have 80 R$
I’ll tell you why. Petty fans would’ve thrown a fucking fit if it was more then 5$ per episode. People were already mad that it wasn’t five episodes despite not even knowing the lengths of said episodes.
Still the same price in Europe (and UK) as previous Telltale seasons, so it better have long episodes that are worth it because they're ripping Europeans off. (Friendly reminder they said they'd fix the prices in early July, but that never happened...)
...I mean, yeah. That actually makes a lot of sense, considering they probably should've charged more to make up for one less episode.
They could've advertised it as
The Complete Finale for just $25! Better writing and cheaper than LiS 2! Consists of 2 hour episodes only, and the premiere being a feature-length episode 2hr 30m! No, we didn't even split the episodes yet sell the first 2 at once, what a pointless decision!
THEY LIED TO US. :kennysad:
Either you're lying or you have your facts wrong. I mean, okay the price might be the same for you in UK but don't say that it's the same for all Europe unless you check the facts. Where I'm from, the price on steam is actually lower than previous seasons.
I paid for previous season 20 euros. For TFS only 16 euros. I know, I know some people will say it's not that much of a difference, still enough to say that the price is not the same, it's even lower.
In France and Brazil the prices are the same as the previous seasons.
Okay but still, saying that in all of Europe (Brazil is not in Europe, obviously) the prices are still the same are untrue. That's what I was talking about. I noticed there are some issues in some areas but they fixed them in some other places.
imo it's set at $20, so people think it's a reasonable price, and more will buy the game. They can't sell it for $60, as it's not really AAA title, unless they got some ideas to make Clementine into a AAA game.
It's still more expensive here in germany.
S1 costs 24,99€.
S2 costs 24,99€.
S3 costs 29,99€.
S4 costs 23,99€.
S1 and S2 are correct. Each episode costs 4,99€.
S3 and S4 are more expensive. Each episode costs 6,49€.
So - depending where you live - S4 is just 1€ cheaper than S1 & S2 and it's still missing a whole episode.
In the US, on Steam it's, $24.99 for seasons 1, 2, and A New Frontier. $4.99 for 400 Days DLC and, $14.99 for Michonne. Buying all of them comes out to $94.95, but the bundle pack has a 10% discount so the total is $84.85. This does not include The Final Season, which is $19.99.
$84.85 for bundle and $19.99 TNF, grand total is $104.84.
Season 1 cost $24.99 and it sold 1 million copies in the first 20 days.
$24.99 x 1,000,000 = $24,000,000
Look by yourself, the most expensive prices are europeans ones : https://steamdb.info/app/866800/
That was a million episodes, not a million season passes.
Yeah, well, your country seems to be the exception. The price per episode was increased by 1 euro seemingly everywhere else in Europe (6 euros per episode).
Also very interesting that you've been paying 20 euros for five episodes (4 euros per episode)... Everywhere else (in Europe) the price was usually 25 euros for five episodes (5 euros per episode)... It's the same currency though, not sure why it'd be different?
I live in The Netherlands and it costs €23.99 euros and every other Telltale game costs €22.99 eurous.
I don't know what else to tell you. I even checked my steam transaction history to be sure I'm not making a fool of myself and I was right. From Season 1 up to ANF I always paid around 20-21 euros for each seasons. No sales, no packs with multiple games - every one of them was bought seperately. TFS being exception because I paid 14 euros for it and I know why. I bought it as a pre-order and the price was lower back then if I remember correctly. Now I'm looking at it and when transferred into euros its equal around 16-17 euros at the moment.
Like I said, I recognize that the price is higher in other countries and maybe it didn't changed much compared to previous seasons. I'm not denying that. Im simply stating a fact that its not the same for ALL of Europe. There are some places where the price is even higher. I will say again cause I've noticed some people misread my post. I'm NOT saying that the prices in Europe aren't high, I'm NOT saying that the prices in Europe are lower compared to previous seasons. I'm ONLY saying that the prices aren't high for ALL of Europe, in fact in some place (like for me) the price was and still is lower compared to Season 1, 2 and ANF.
Damn, 12 comments on the pricing. Maybe I should title it 'TFS is more expensive in Europe?' oh wait, that's been done before. Guess I'm not gonna get my answers anytime soon lol. It's cool though.
I'm still salty about that.
Yes, it was the first episode that sold a million copies, not a million season passes. Anyway it also answers OP's question why Telltale sells the game so cheap.
