Characters you hated but then loved

Inspired by @TripleKillionare post "Characters you loved but then hated"

For me it was Violet. The first time she spoke to Clem I fucking shut her down with her shit but then after the fight in the courtyard I started to reconsider, then after the dinner I hated her again. Then in the room I kinda simpatized with her and I liked how she treated AJ. Then at the river I kinda understand where she was coming, but still it was exagerated. It the station I LOVED how she saved Clem from death multiple times. And the thing that made me fall in love with her was STANDING UP LIKE A FUCKING BADASS TO MARLON, silent, meat cleaver and all.

So tell me, what is your hate then love story.

When I first saw Louis's look before the episode came out, I immediately thought he would be that typical annoying over flirtatious thirsty teen, and I expected him to be that type of guy to start complimenting Clem's looks and stuff like that, but then I realized he was more than that: he instead plays piano for her which I found to be cute unlike actual flirting. He was also the one taking care of AJ and he later even gave AJ his dinner and was the only one that immediately went to pick him up when Marlon pushed him on the ground. And he also tried to be positive and funny which I think is important during the apocalypse - you can't expect to be depressed and sad for years because of the apocalypse and people you lost.
So even though he kinda is a flirt, he isn't the one in the traditional sense if you know what I mean; and also when he asked Clem about the boyfriend, I thought it was more of a fun teasing question than flirting.

  • Rebecca, I don’t even need to explain why I hated her. The transition was a 180 for her but I got over it quickly. Despite being a plot device she was tough and concerned for everyones well-being.

  • I agree with Rebecca started off as s complete bitch but then as time went on she warmed up but died after given birth to aj

  • I felt the same way about Violet. She came off incredibly bitchy and we butted heads immediately. But then I talked with her in the bedroom and at the fishing shack and I realized that she is actually a pretty sweet girl who is still dealing with fresh losses. I ship her and Clem.

Funnily enough the opposite happened with Louis. I liked how he watched AJ and was super nice to him and Clem, but as the episode went on I felt like he was way too flirty and unreliable. I don't ship Clem with someone like him.

  • Oh shit, no joke, I thought one of Squidz got drunk and deleted a fuckton of posts for no reason.

  • Continuing the trend from the original thread for now, I wouldn't say these are characters I hated and then loved, but I will say why view of them has improved to some varying degree overtime: Lily, Luke, Nick, Carlos, Mike, Arvo, Gabe, and Violet.

    Yo-yo examples: Mariana and Marlon.

  • I thought I wouldn't like Marlon at first because of the way Telltale talked about him at Pax East. As more info came out however, I actually started to like him. Then when I played the episode, I was disappointed in the way he turned out. So I hated him, then liked him, now I hate him again. ?

  • Duck: Thought he was just a random dumb kid who'll end up getting people killed over nothing but ended up becoming a very likable and sympathetic character with a tragic end.

Ben: Same as Duck, except I liked him at first and then started to hate him but liked him again.

AJ: I honestly thought him being born in S2 E4 was the worst thing ever and he'll offer nothing interesting to the story, but he ended up becoming my favorite character of TFS (so far). I hated the "MUST FIND AJ" gimmick of Clementine in ANF, but now that I look back on it I don't hate it and I kind of appreciate it.

Gabriel: I don't "love" him and I can't say I even like him a lot, but at first I thought he was the worst character in all of the series, but when he died in my original playthrough I gotta say it was really fucking sad and made me change my opinion of him quickly. I think he's severely underappreciated on these forums, and I understand that because he was really unlikable and did A LOT of dumb things during the game. But, he deserved better and I really hope he would have lived in my ending.

Violet: Didn't like her at all when we first interacted with her. I really thought she was going to be the future arch-rival of Clementine but I warmed up to her and I like her a lot so far. We'll see how this changes in the future.

  • Uh, somewhat similar, though it was more okay/neutral, then dread of boringness, then reassurance with obvious biding suspicious, and finally somewhat cake-having&eating two-facedness.

I hated Kenny at the beginning of Season 1, especially after he saved his son Duck and ran away ignoring Shawn Greene, but then I really liked him and in S2 he became my favourite character of the whole game.
Also I hated Charles for some unknown reasons the first moment I saw him in the train, but then I really liked him after the speech he had with Lee and after he saved Clementine in Crawford, right after Ben ran away in fear.

In S2 I hated Nick and Rebecca at the start because they were both really mean and they didn't trust Clementine at all, Nick even shot her, but in the end they were good people.
