So I can't be the only one who made the connection and it was exactly when Kate told David:
We are not your soldiers!
Chloe has a similar line to another David (her stepfather) in Life is Strange where she tells him:
Stop treating me and my mom like we're your family platoon!
And then I realized that the characters are very similar. Both served the military, both have dysfunctional relationships, with family or marriage, and both can act out in aggressive and even abusive ways.

Yeah, I have no idea if it's intentional or not, but if it's a coincidence, boy did the stars align on that one.

Ah, good catch. But I wouldn't say they have a relationship so much as she's one of his suspects when he's investigating Rachel's disappearance. Also, Kate's not family.
