Does Kenny have Histrionic Personality Disorder?

Just wondering out of curiosity.

  • I'll have to look it up for clarity, but I don't think so

Geez there’s a disorder for attention seeking?
I know Sarah might have Autism, would make Carlos a lot more sympathetic.

  • Shit I was reading the description of that and I think I might have it... I do a lot of that shit.

  • I don't see it. I don't get the impression that Kenny wanted to be the center of attention, it just doesn't strike me as something in his character; arrogance and bull-headedness doesn't mean attention seeking. The only disorder I'd be willing to say for certain is PTSD. It explains his disliking for Larry and vicious murder of Carver since he implied at one point his father was very abusive, and the hauntings from the ghosts of both Katjaa and Duck drove practically all his deplorable actions in Season 2. He never sought attention for it's own sake; he put family first to the far extreme and lashed out at anyone who didn't side with him on that. Him turning into a monster was almost purely out of PTSD related to his family's death.

It's also important to remember that when I say PTSD, I mean the writer's depiction of PTSD. Characters are not real, so they don't have true psychology. Mental illness can be easily exaggerated or distorted as the plot demands it, so diagnosing characters is a bit dubious since you're not actually delving into a developed mind but a writer's idea of how the mind works and their personal opinions on it, which can be pretty harmful to the mental health industry since writers can popularize a warped depiction of mental illness and enforce a stigma on real sufferers of the disorders in their ignorance.

  • It says people with the disorder are easily influenced by others so no haha Kenny definitely does not have this. I don’t know why people think there’s something wrong with him. Kenny has realistic human traits that we all behave like from time to time

  • Honestly, I'm a little surprised he didn't quite fit Borderline.

She was meant to have PTSD(which is kinda obvious in hindsight), but the spectrum is a common theory.

    Eeeh, sort of...? I guess...?
Like, I know Sarah was definitely meant to represent it and Jane is implied have a case of it as well, but Kenny? I'm not sure.

Uh, when was this? You sure you're not thinkin of the Jane flashback?

Just for reference, the closest characters I can think of in a Telltale game to resembling HPD are the Handsome Jack AI (who is more of a narcissist) and to an extent John Doe (who fits Borderline Personality Disorder). All 3 disorders are fit into personality disorder cluster B, which is characterized by wild emotions and distorted perceptions of relationships and self.

All you have to do is look at Kenny in episode 1 to see how he was a fairly stable and rational man (with some anger issues) before watching the ZA harm his family put him on edge. It was the trauma that made him react wildly, not any personality disorder. That's just my take on it though.

I don't really understand how it's far fetched to believe he has it. Sarah had an anxiety disorder, that's why she became catatonic when she was faced with similar trauma Kenny went through. I don't doubt Jane has it, but I feel as though her temperament didn't leave her as predisposed to PTSD as Kenny was.

Here's the symptoms of PTSD from a Google search, a lot of them are implied with Kenny if not outright shown in Season 2.

(I'm also not certified in any way this is just my view on his character)

Snapping at Clem over Sarita's death because it reminded him of Katjaa's suicide. Taking his anger out on Arvo over his failure to protect Rebecca and endangering AJ. Murdering Jane for "killing" AJ (which it's possible he might've thought for a second that it really was an accident but just didn't care). PTSD can be a lot more subtle than completely breaking down like Sarah did (especially if it's been years since the trauma happened). People also react to that kind of distress very differently.

  • Holy shit, it's damn near spot on.

Another thing they have in common.

She had symptoms of it before then, dude. Including anxiety itself.
Remember that while she mostly didn't do much herself, she was involved in the escape(which included the unintentional killing of George and leaving behind of Reggie), the travels afterwards(which included a city or two), and had to at least notice what happened to Nick's Mom(since that obviously wasn't a secret).
That's why Carlos started sheltering her, tried to keep her away from Clementine when she was bitten, and initially wanted to keep what happened to Pete quiet.
