S2 less popular endings (spoilers obviously)

First and foremost: PLEASE don't let this become another Kenny vs Jane discussion. This is not what I'm trying to do here. I just want to talk about two specific endings that I think it would be interesting to discuss.

S2 had many endings. Staying with Kenny/Jane or being alone. You have two options if you stick with one character and if you decide to be alone, there are three different ways you can choose to get there. One of them is the most popular one which is ditching Jane after Clem shoots Kenny and finds AJ alive in the car. But the other two are less picked endings along with "Stay with Jane-Reject the family" ending. I'm curious to know if anyone picked one of these two endings and what are your reasonings behind it.

First, the ending which you let Kenny kill Jane and shoots him right after is considered by some to be the worst ending. I strongly disagree since it's one of my favorite endings. Kenny and Jane were both unstable and if the player distrust both of them he can choose to just stay out of the fight and then get rid of whoever survives it. It's dead cold but also has a good logic and pragmatism to it. I also love how Clem finds AJ alone and tells him "we're gonna be okay". She's scared, but she's also convinced she did the right thing I think. What's interesting is that you don't have to pick up the gun too. You can just wait it out and the game will just progress normally and Clem won't be crying when she talks to Kenny.

The other one I confess I find it to be morbid. It also includes being alone but instead of shooting Kenny, the player just leaves him to be alone with his pain and suffering. It may be the worst ending. If anyone picked that, what are your reasons to do it? Why not just shoot Kenny then? He doesn't deserve that. Say what you will about his flaws but he cared about Clem and AJ. Like I said in the beginning of the thread, this is not a Kenny vs Jane discussion, but I don't see much sense in ditching Kenny when you can just end his misery before or after he kills Jane if you consider him to be a liability. Some people don't want to get their hands dirty I guess? Even though Kenny agrees with Clem if you choose this ending you can clearly see that he is suffering by the way he says: "Don't worry little guy (to AJ). Big sister will take good care of you". I really think this is the worst possible scenario to Kenny.

Well, sorry for the long thread. What are you guys take on these two less popular endings of season 2? And again, let's try to make this discussion healthy ^^

  • Agreed that the alone ending might just be the best one where both the Season's tone and the later games stand. The only issue is that you can't do the same, but with Jane instead.

Don't get me wrong--Wellington is definitely the most fleshed out of the endings and the concept of the Jane with Randy's Family ending is actually relatively good, but like many things in that season(and/or because of them), it isn't very fleshed out.

  • I think my favorite is the one where you let Kenny kill Jane then shoot Kenny and go alone.

Not sure why, it just feels right to me. In Clem's eyes Jane did a terrible thing and Kenny snapped and is about to kill her, she doesn't do anything because she doesn't know what exactly to do, Kenny was there since the beginning and he tried to protect her and AJ but he also started to lose his temper; he slipped lower into anger and grief and that broke him but she's not ready to kill him. Then he kills Jane. The final drop. Clem sees how broken and somewhat dangerous he is when anger takes over him. She decides to end his suffering and go on alone with AJ.

At least that's how I see it plus like DabigRG said: "the alone ending might just be the best one where both the Season's tone and the later games stand".

  • My preferred ending was shooting Kenny after he killed Jane, it really fucking irritates me that the final season character builder does not allow this choice.

honestly i feel like the Let kenny kill Jane and then promptly shoot Kenny is the biggest reason as to why the season 2 endings had no chance of ever mattering.
If they did the same thing they did with Mike and completely removed that then they could bring the characters back eventually in a Doug/Carley determinant situation. Essentially what i mean to say is that telltale would never be able to make choices that have as many branching paths as a game like say Detroit become human so removing that choice and bringing back Both characters was the best thing telltale could probably hope for if the season 2 endings were to actually mean something.
As for my favorite id have to say its the wellington ending, Not because i want a Kenny cameo but because it closes the book on his character in a nice way with him walking into the sunset knowing that Clem and AJ would finally be a safe and live a good life and that he did manage to protect them after all ((But then a new frontier happened and ruined that but its still my favorite ending anyway.))

    Guys Are u serious ? :D
I experienced this ending so see what would i feel for Clem. God it was creepy as fuck !!!
it was weird and a little frightening to watch Clem becoming stone cold, shooting Kenny without any hesitation, then going alone with AJ like if nothing happened. Okay Kenny is a murderer, but still he is human. He said after (if u don't kill him) that he thought Jane Killed AJ, who appeared to be like a son to him, like Duck, that's why he lost control. Jane asked for a fight to death, otherwise she would have said AJ is still alive. Kenny absolutely don't deserve to be sentenced to death.

And I totally disagree about him being dangerous to Clem. He is dangerous only to people who hurts what he cares for (AJ, Duck, Sarita, his dreams). And he DO cares about Clem. If like me you choosed the ending when Clem stay with Kenny, in the season 3 you can witness Kenny acting like a father to Clem and AJ. They were like a family, Kenny even telling Clem she was like a mother to AJ, and him being the father. I do thing this ending could be the best one if Kenny didn't die to a stupid car accident...

All this to say that your ending is the worst, the creepiest and could be considered as the bad ending of this season.

  • Too bad that season insisted on being cynical in it's storytelling then.

    Agreed it was

Actually I didn't expect creepy endings like that for this season honestly :D
All the endings when Kenny lives where okay and looked at little like The season 1 ending with Lee, but the others are... weird :D

I went with ditching Jane after Kenny dying, because by the end of the season I couldn't find myself trusting either of them. I found Jane shady during episode 4 and the way Kenny got aggressive with people and Clem put me off him, like I get that he's been through hell and back but he was mostly unjustified, aside from the shit with Jane. I think at the end of the day my Clem was better off by herself and I didn't have to go through their shitty deaths in season 3.

  • That was the ending I got initially, but I rewound after looking up possible combinations.

  • That wasn't my ending. I made Clem stay at Wellington after sticking with Kenny. I wouldn't kill Kenny in any of those situations, but I appreciate that ending for the reasons mentioned above. I'm a Kenny fan don't get me wrong. But that doesn't mean I can't see the value in other approaches. I don't see clem being stone cold. She was clearly sad about what she was doing. The other ending I think it's way worse. Leaving Kenny alone to suffer is so much worse than killing him.
