I'm actually glad Telltale made sure this could never ever be a thing. James just comes off too much as a cliche brooding anime character and I feel like the shipping would have been unbearable if they actually decided to make it a reality in-game.
And not only did #Stillnotbitten confirm James isn't an option, they also designated his age to be in his early 20s to make sure no one would still try to pair him with a vaguely 16 year old Clem.
